I see your point about goals aligning, but I have a feeling our goals will be aligning for the majority of the game. There are 13 of us, and 11 of them. Even if things go well, I doubt that things will work out where things start to swing in the town's favor until late in the game.

Regardless of my alignment, your side is the one that is hurt by throwing in the towel. Let's look at the combinations from someone else's viewpoint:

If we're both town, boo for us. You've wasted our time.
If one of us is town and the other one is scum or we're opposing scum, which one of us is which is irrelevant. Yay for me.
If we're scumbuddies, then it makes sense for me to try to get town points by taking out a liability to our team.

The problem with this strike system is it too easy to snowball. One person gets a couple strikes, and everyone will start getting that mentality that SOMEONE has to die at the end of the day and follow suit in fear that they will lose any death at all.

We will definitely want to consider hospitalization at some point in the game.

The first part is "lololol i hate playing mafia with n00bs looooook at me self hammer, I'm soooo town." Which is anti-town as hell, but not necessarily scummy (in fact, it could be argued its townie). The second part, though, is an extremely sneaky suggestion that we let DGB live. The seed that DGB will be nightkilled, and so thus we don't have to deal with it. E.g., we should NOT lynch DGB. These two combined create an extremely manipulative presentation that gives rise to massive cognitive dissonance - we are TOLD DGB wants to self vote, but then told we don't want to lynch DGB.

Scumcity.

By the way, hospitalization could be highly encouraged since we can Hospitalize two players.

All scum members have actions... except the possible Inner Circle Townie. Hospitalizing someone and not getting the total number of kills we should be getting at night would raise a flag that we beat down a SK or Gang Leader. Hospitalizing a Roleblocker keeps actions open. Etc.. etc... etc...

When 40%+ of players strike someone, it will cause them to be sent to the hospital tent at Night, and they will not be able to use any specialized role actions they may possess...
