Yeah, they were typos, but your key seems to be off:
Code: Select all
a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o q p r s t u v w x y z
t h e q u i c k b r o w n f x j m p s v l a z y d g

I switched them... With mine the top is the letter in the code and the bottom is the real letter.
I'll make one now.

I'll finish the cipher first, I might play
Edit:
Code: Select all
L nteiesglrsto ee sma nt e dtittli mrhifteyitfh .
I can't remember if this can be solved without the key (last time I used it I was 10 or something), if it is solvable without it it'll be a pretty easy one.
Edit: Ignore this, I posted another one that I know is solvable

Okay, we've had short ciphertexts before, but that's ridiculous.

This one is actually easier with a short one (I believe), I can whip up something larger/harder if you want.
Edit: Apparently applying ciphers that I've learned 10 years ago from memory causes me to keep messing it up
, so I'm posting something else. I'll see if I can find out what I was actually trying to do and post my original idea another time.
Code: Select all

That's fine - just be a bit more careful composing ciphers in the future. I always check to make sure I can unencrypt, just to be sure.

Doesn't look like a transposition, not with zero Es and five Ks. Here's digraph frequencies, for what it's worth:

Hmm I'm wondering about the digraph setup. Relevant to the cipher or just choice? Not sure if Playfair would make that distribution.

I don't know if you can tell anything from the digraph - the largest number is 2, so it might be pretty close to chance. Going through to look for repeat frequencies, I find:
ALF: 20
UM: 13
FR: 34
MY: 34
which doesn't look very helpful to me. If it's some kind of substitution, though, ALF is likely to be a common trigraph, probably THE.

If we guessed simple substitution and proceeded from that basis, we'd have:
Code: Select all
ZC AL FR SY DO UP BA FL AP MY KO AL FK IS OK LP GU UM HO FR RX CJ KN BU MK PO MY UC
-- th e- -- -- -- -t eh t- -- -- th e- -- -- h- -- -- -- e- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
...ugh, the "teht" looks terrible. Perhaps "ent" or "ion"? The reversal of the "LF" digraph suggests those letters might be "re" or "er"...

Okay then... 24 hours, here's a clue;
ALF is a trigraph, but not what you think it is.
And the code is far more complex than a substitution cypher.

If it is a more complex cipher isn't the ciphertext way too short? [/hypocrisy
