I agree with this. As someone who doesn't know the subject matter at all this line of conversation is mind-numbingly boring and causes me to lose track of what's really important...who is scummy!

Also, I realize there is always the opportunity for town to choose wrong on a duel partner but at least it would be known that their motivation was indeed townie. I think the "bad town" will be weeded out early and there will be plenty of players to choose from early on that surely they can hit ONE townie, but you never know.

Let's say for example we the town determine Amrun and Juls to be the two most likely players to be mafia. We tell them to duel each-other and we will kill them both. If they don't do this we will lynch them one after the other.
Alas, it turns out Juls is town. If she calls this duel then she would be allowing herself as town to die without people lynching her (this is the equivalent of self-hammering as town) and therefore we get little info out of the lynch/death as opposed to analysing who voted to be her lynched.
That is why it is actually a bad move as town.

But I want people to be voted into dueling. I want duels to come as a result of a majority decision via voting for duel candidates. So we do get a lot of info. Whatever we end up doing, I want as many people taking definitive stances as possible so that we have as much info as possible.

I can understand why players wouldn't want to die, as we all want to live and win, but if there is enough support for a lynch, then I think players have to be willing to duel. It's the mechanic of the game.

But it does show something: elvis is starting out passively. Caps don't help either, as she is just explaining with them that antitown = scum to her. She knows I'm not antitown.

There has been nothing passive about my play. I've been one of the most active posters so far, and I wanted to start voting even in pregame. What about that is passive? I am arguing strongly that I don't want scum like you floating the idea that town should be idiots and duel whoever and whenever they please.

There has been some speculation about scum numbers in this game. This is what I think:

There is probably a low number of scum. The mechanic of this game is geared for a lot of early town deaths if we charge off and duel like crazy people. Double-lynch games need lower scum numbers. Also, there are probably scum PR's that can get empowered, which would also support lower scum numbers. Basically, scum want us to double-duel lynch between townies, or they want to duel with a townie and get empowered themselves. I'm not saying that anyone who wants to get empowered is scum, but I am saying that people who get empowered need to be scrutinized and held accountable if possible.

I STRONGLY disagree with allowing any supposedly obvtown minority to have more control over duels than others. That reads to me like a recipe for disaster. One reason is scum can sometimes fool us, you know. Another reason is that letting everyone participate equally lets you see who is making scummy moves.

I wish I could add some stunning, convincing point to the case, but I can't think of one. RayFrost especially made some very good points that caused me to re-read ML carefully to find that I agree with the points made. This vote is better than my previous one.

inHim, I have yet to be told why making that joke was scummy. To be honest, I don't care that much. Your vote for such a thing at this stage of the game is weak. It was just a joke.

No. SPYREX made this game and it was obviously meant to be played SPYREX style. The problem with the "majority of us" is that scum are in the majority, and can thus influence the decision.

I propose: if you are OBVTOWN, you are permitted to duel and/or order other people to duel. If you are NOT OBVTOWN, you are not permitted to start duels and/or order other people to duel. OBVTOWN people will form an alliance and work together to find scumz.

I'm saying that, for the most part, elvis is correct. Who duels who should be left up to town. If there are to obviously growing wagons, both of which are being contested against one another, that is enough reason for a duel. They can legitimately duke it out, so to speak.

SO, I'm not talking about any 'lil argument, but one in which it becomes apparent that no other lynch will be happening.

If I think neither of them scummy? Touche, that would suck. Just note that when I said 1v1, I more or less meant the above--that there is a general consensus that at least one of the 2 ppl is scum.

The duel mechanic forces players to take a risk for the sake of power. It is a powerful tool when done correctly, but when a town loses, it hurts regardless of whether or not the person dueling them was scum.

I think we should just get the speculation stuff of the way early, so:
1) Should duels be a town consensus or based on an individuals confidence in their reads/need for power?
2) Flavor speculation: Who is our enemy?

My answers:
1)Town consensus, UNLESS, as stated earlier, it is a player is confident enough in his reasons for dueling without it. Consensus suggests that everyone is agreement on something, but the majority is not always correct.
2) I don't know it well enough, which is why I asked the question. However, given the amount of families in the game, I could see more than one scum team.

I could see scum making a post like this, be wary of ToastyToast buddying imo.

Moreover, I think we shouldn't get starstruck by the duel mechanic. Let's play it cool like a normal game and use the duel if the need for it comes up.

Just kidding y'all. So I have no idea what Dynasty Warriors is. I often don't care about flavor since the roles are all that matters to me. I've seen plenty mods give characters roles that I didn't think matched the character so yeah.

All I care about is the mechanics. If I get a wagon big enough on me or if I see someone who I generally think is scummy I'm gonna use that duel thingy.

No, town's are full of VIs. I'm tired of losing games where I called who was scum and I still lost because of VIs. It's worse when you see someone who's obvtown to you about to get lynched by those same VIs. I probably won't do it normally but if I see town about to lynch someone who I believe to be obvtown while letting someone who is clearly scum walk free I will use the duel mechanic.

In my opinion that's probably why Spyrex added the duel mechanic. And why shouldn't I care about the mechanic? Those are how I pick which games I want to join. I joined this game simply bc of the Duel Mechanic. Now that I'm here I'm going to use it to find the scum but letting a bunch of VIs decide a certain way the mechanic is used is a great way for scum to manipulate it so that it best suits them.
