Meh, it's day 1, I don't have any history with any of the other players, much less a clue as to how many or what variety of bad guys are out there to catch. I've seen two weird things that bear investigation - the minor dogpile on Internet Stranger, and the claim of a vigkill. The IS debate seemed to have taken off without me, so I went the other direction.

Generally, I seem to be a lot better at working up the technical aspects of a game (vote count analysis, etc) than I am at catching the subtle social nuances that come with considerable experience. I'll warn now that I'll be most useful in a few days.

Beyond that, I'm happy to answer questions, and might fire out a few of my own...

@ chkflip: in the interest of improving my scumhunting, can you tell me more about why you place so much importance on day 1? I'm guessing it's something like walking the line of getting several candidates "close" to a lynch, and seeing who appears overeager? Most of the games I've played off-site have been pretty much throwaway votes on day 1, then go back and analyze after the fact. I mentioned in a previous post that I expect to bring the most value once I've got a day or two's voting history to crunch.

That's actually an excellent point. I'm willing to forego immediate hostilities while there remains what appears to be a relatively broad pool of scum to hunt. Fair enough? I'm operating blind here, and for all the big talk about scumtells, etc, it's some pretty subtle stuff we have to work with.

It would seem that I tend to do that. Somehow, in my limited time here, I'm coming across scummy in my early posts more often than not. I suppose it comes from being more concerned with the hunt than how my own posts appear, and I'm not exercising enough caution to prevent my fellow townies from suspecting me. I'm going to agree that there's got to be at least one scum on [L] train. Anxiety's the easy bet, though I've got an off feeling about charter. Putting the kist to bed, so I'll need to justify that later on, or possibly in the A.M.

I haven't had the opportunity to put together a VCA, but my gut impressions after going through the ISOs are that if we've got three scum, we'll find them among 4nxi3ty, Charter, and Internet Stranger, with Fenix as something of an outlier.

on that note, @chkflip: you indicated earlier that you were getting a newbtell read on Fenix for the messy fakeclaim. It's meta, but a search of his posts on the site showed that he claims to have at least 10 games under his belt using other accounts.

I thought it was interesting how RiceBallTail was really gunning for Internet Stranger. I thought this might have been scummy... but after a closer look, though, I've come up empty-handed. RBT's now feeling confident that I.S. is town.

As for me, I still think that Internet Stranger feels somewhat scummy - I see a lot of subtle implications of other people's scumminess, but very few times where it's been backed with a vote. I don't have much experience with his playstyle yet though...

I'm pretty sure that we're not going to have both of the fakeclaimers be town, or both scum. I've left Nanook alone because he seems to agree - a lot of his suspicions on Day 1 were directed at both Fenix and Anxiety. I just happen to think that Anxiety responded (at least to my prodding) in a hostile enough fashion that he's ringing the scum-bells.

This is a total contradiction from the post right before it, how were those two posts supposed to go together?

I had my post open in one tab, while I read the thread in another. I'd been prepared to move my vote to Fenix after his post #312 (likely bussing Internet Stranger)... later, I found 4nxi3ty's post #320 to be town-ish, and I realized that between charter, Anxiety, and myself, we all had a probably scum-read on Internet Stranger. Feel free to throw in a hearty helping of OMGUS, as I.S. has been calling me scum for a while now...

OK, GDI. Haven't had the time to play even a remotely decent game. But at L-1 I'm roleclaiming. I'm a town gunsmith, and I targeted RiceBallTail, who is unarmed. As I understand it, that's a confirmed townie.

My days are now numbered, but at least I contributed something.
