“No, no, we really need your help. You have handled a case like this before.”
“Yeah, and it was a pain in the ass.” A deep sigh sounded through the phone speaker.
“Please.”
“Fine, Jacob, I’ll help. Can you give me an outline of the case?”
“It’s again a group of mafia playing friends and again the one who was supposed to be modding the next game. It was supposed to be played next week. This morning, one of the friends went to his house and found a body. The victim’s body.”
“No need to be dramatic. Besides, you can read all the details of the previous case like this in the record of said case. Why call for my help?”
“He was shot with two bullets at the same time. Two bullets from different guns.”
“At the same time?”
“Yeah, give or take a couple of seconds. The ballistics prove the bullets are from different guns.”
“Odd. Still don’t see why you need my help.”
“We also found two messages at the scene. One read “Fight fire with Fire”, the other “They were walking on thin Ice anyway”.”
A chuckle came from the other end of the line. “I see we’ve got a murderer with a sense of humour on our hands.”
“Two, most likely.”
“Two?”
“Yeah, we have two bullets from different guns, one went from the front to the back, the other from the back to the front. The shooter wouldn’t have had enough time to move around, change guns and shoot again.”
“Now this is getting interesting. And you’re proposing we solve this one the same as we solved the other one?”
“Exactly. So, are you in or not?”
“I’m in. See you in five minutes at the station. We’ll talk details there.”
The next day 19 people met at the police station. In the interrogation room, they found two people leaning back in their chairs with their feet on the table. Both were holding a cup of coffee and a donut.
“Good morning,” Jacob said. “I’m Jacob and that is City.” City munched on her donut and put up her hand in a greeting. “We are the cops running this investigation. The situation has been explained to you. You know the rules. Now, let’s catch some scum
