My apologies - the actor playing this role is out of town in a few minutes, and will not be back in town until Sunday evening, when he will be able to enter the scene appropriately.

Carrie sidles up to Locke

A modest soul you seem, but why would you throw not just your own life, but that of the whole group; into the hands of an utterly unknown quantity?

What exactly did that old geezer Grey tell you?

The "Locke" that I know would never be this selfless and willingly give up power unless it's not power at all and will be somewhat costly to our current situation or my life.

With that being said I must say that I feel more comfortable risking my own life then the lives of all of us, which would be what I was doing by allowing "Locke" to drive.

Carrie scrutinizes the aging Valentine

Wise you are, as is Locke, and I worry one or the other has been mislead by our host.

What makes you think Locke at the wheel might endanger us all? Are you concerned he is not fit to drive?

Locke, what do we gamble with you at our helm?

This is why I was intially weary. Kinda proves my point.

If he drives he controls where we go. If I drive I control where we go. "Locke" is the type of person who wouldn't give this choice up unless the driver didn't really have power.

So either "Locke" is trying to persuade me to drive so I lose my own life or he is using the fear of losing my life so HE can drive and take us where he pleases.

If this is the case, I'd rather drive then let him drive.

If I drive, we will lose one of our numbers. For I will no longer be an innocent. You see, I had a choice. I know Valetine is meant to drive. However, if I convinced you to let me drive, I would get to join the Enemy.

I am chosing a harder road...to stay innocent. Not the biggest sacrfice I have ever made, but a hard one to be sure.

I assume They know this. I also think I will pay for it.

If I drive, the sun will indeed grow hotter, if I dont, most likely I will just fall off the flower.

Perhaps we were both given the same offer? I am sure the island would find such a "choice" humorous.

I can not lead.

Valentine were you offered an ultimatum akin to Locke's?

DEATH WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT SL'S VOTES ARE ODD AND POINTLESS, AS NONE SHALL BE KILLED IN THIS SCENE.

LOCKE'S CHOICE IS MOST INTERESTING. ONE MAY SUSPECT THAT IN FACT, BY NOT DRIVING HE SHALL JOIN THE ENEMY. AT THIS MOMENT I AM TEMPTED TO VOTE FOR VALENTINE, HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT ALL OF OUR TIME IS NESSECARY, AND A QUICK DECISION IS SUPERFLUOUS.

It appears there is no other choice then. For if Locke will be bad. Then we must fight for the good. I see no reason not to trust Locke here. So I will

John Locke, we aren't on an island, we are in the contiguous United States. In just one moment, the island was telling you to drive and now you won't?

I feel that John Locke is trying to pull wool over our eyes.

Valtea, what were you offered in order to drive us to our destination?

Also- We are told what the result of our decision is. I find it unlikely we would be told if someone joined the enemy. Therefore, I think something is wrong with the "facts" we were given.

I fear we are letting our emotions over take what really should be a more logical decision. Ms Newmar your vote on who should or should not drive was very careless. You are aware of the situation, like we all are.... This choice is something that we have to seriously consider and pounder. Rushing to a decision helps no one, especially when we don't have all of the facts and some of our number have yet to weigh in on this most important of debate.

Mr Locke, I find it hard to trust a man as vague as you are being with us. There must be more information that you are not sharing or at least a better way to communicate it.

Carrie nods at Mr. Green

Listen you two, this has gone on long enough. Quite simply I'm sick of indulging a chick who's always played second fiddle to her psychotic brothers, and a has-been anachronism who's still far too close to the state of nature for his own good.

Now, as you two are providing contradictory information, I want to know if you think it's because old man Grey's been playing games with you or if you think the other is just evil.

Lockey, I'd appreciate it if you'd practice some plain language philosophy for once and just lay out exactly what your reasoning for letting Valentine drive is. You don't strike me as that altruistic.

Likewise Valentine. I don't like the asymmetry of one of you not wanting to drive and the other happily going along with it.

Give us the tools we need to make a decision. I know you like the sounds of your own voices but we've had enough aphorisms for a whole movie.

I'm not questioning your expertise in this area, but how do you know no-one will be killed?

You think he doesn't have our interests at heart?

Julie, please slow down, we do not want to rush this decision.

And where's that latte I ordered aeons ago? Scratch that, make it a double ristretto. I don't do carbs after noon.

Carrie looks pointedly at Valentine...
You are an advocate with special information the rest of us do not have. Yet all you've talked about is Locke and what may be his motives. If Locke were yet to speak, what would have been your recommendation for us, and why?

Frustrated and confused Locke addresses his companions..

Vague? I am not being vague. I am being me, John Locke, in all my wonderful flavor. I have told you all that I know. To say anything else will be directly quoting my little conversation. My words have been as plain as I can reasonably make them…all you need to do is hear them.

I don’t know the group result of what will happen to everyone if I drive or Valentine. I just know the result of what will happen to me if I drive.

It boils down to this. If Valentine drives and something bad happens, you will simply kill me, I would do the same in your position. I have faith, though. In my heart of hearts, I know that Valentine is supposed to drive. However, the island, wants me to drive. I might not be on the island, but I still feel it’s pull. If I drive, I will no longer be one of you. Tomorrow, I will be…different…soiled…not innocent. You will ask…”so, what happened?” Sure I will say something like, “hmm, I guess I was wrong, i dont know what happened”. I will have to say that because I will have a different agenda. I will probably say almost anything. The fact is, you will trust me less because of what I have said today. Eventually, if not immediately, you will kill me.

As you see, the easier road, would have been to except the offer and try to coerce you to let me drive….to lead…or to not say anything at all and let the pieces fall as they may.

As I have said before, I chose a different…harder road.

Take as long as you want to discuss. I have a feeling that when the time is right for us to leave, we will know .

(pauses to note music coming from the bus)

The facts are not going to change.

Neither will my vote.

Locke then boards the bus and takes a seat near the rear…silent and brooding…suddenly catching the song playing, he smiles slightly…lyrics reach the ears of those outside…”I don’t understand what’s the rush, all flushed, mad like you missed the bus, another one is coming in about 10 minutes, man, you don’t need to push yourself to the limit…slooow the floooow.”

follows John Locke onto the bus to have a quiet word

The decision, Mr Locke, is whether to have you drive knowing that either you are lying now or you will defect to the enemy, then dispose of you at the next opportunity.

Or do we let the unknown quantity drive, the one who
knows
but has not told us what will happen if she drives. The one who may have had the same offer as you, and may defect, but we will not know of it.

You act the martyr but wouldn't the truly noble action be to drive, knowing that we
will
have to kill you?
