Ok, I'll have to make this brief as I have to truck off to work. I'll post something more substantial in a few hours.
purple princess wrote:Hey Guys,
Can I just ask everybody, what sort of expeience you have at playing Mafia?
I've played about 6 games here and am in the middle of Newbie 817 as we speak. I also play some large theme games at another site.

I don't see how RVS is over.

Will do... honestly my posting usually goes way up at the end of day 1 and into day 2, but you'll be hearing plenty from me.

I plan to.

It's one of my newbies I IC'd, I'll get to it later because I need to catch up in some topics.

"ending the rvs"? What are you talking about?

Our little "debate" appears to be nothing more than a theory discussion. I see no need to wait for it.

Happy with my vote.

I agree, but as of yet, it's one of the few things we have to go on.

This is not quickly, especially not since the game has been moving slower than a snail on weed. Can I ask you what the point of this question is?

Welcome startransmission

@ RayFrost, why are you so concerned about rvs? Just let it run it's course, once we have more to go on people will change their votes to who the think is scum. I don't really think you can put a time limit on rvs.

Rustyshark - Extremely shaky first post which points towards him being a goon unless he has friggin aspergers syndrome.

Echo - No real signs from him so far from what i see

Rayfrost - Over eager guy

There isnt really that much to say, the threads been so quiet, ive been a bit busy and I was expecting more to go over when I returned to post.

Exactly my point. The only way a "random" vote can be helpful is if it has at least
some
amount of non-randomness to it, which means that voting/unvoting
just
because of the rvs is a bad idea.

>.< To be honest, the RVS is making me feel like a hunting dog being held by the leash. It's so limiting...

To be honest, I think I much prefer replacing into games over being in them from the start =/ the rvs is not for me, mentally.

@ MME: I'm not sure if I said this already, but the debate would be of value for getting to know both your and rustyshark's mindset (which would allow an understanding of your logic, which provides a basis to see logical contradictions in the future). Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Currently, I'm in a rush to get out of the RVS because I feel constrained, which bothers me like an itch I just can't make go away. I guess I'm just impatient like that. :?

RVS is (IMO) a good way to get chatter going and hopefully get a grasp on peoples alignments. RVS ends when a player or a topic (other than the RVS itself) becomes the subject of debate, and the random thing is no longer necessary to drive conversation.

Since you asked for an example here is an example of me ending the RVS in another game,

You completely forgot the website existed? So you /in for nexted... replied promptly to your role PM (as we all did, which is a good sign for the game) and then up and forgot that the website even existed? And as soon as a vote is cast against you all of a sudden remember that you're playing this game and respond to it? Not buying it- and if that's you being "honest" I can't trust you. In my book you went from quiet to being both an active lurker and a liar.

So, I'm gonna fuck with you bro...

Unvote: Jeromus

Vote: BagSquad
A bandwagon against BagSquad quickly formed, debates took place, bagsquad was replaced etc. RVS was over.

But this discussion about RVS isn't really doing us any favors in finding scum... and it being page 2 it's time to move on from this topic.

Quickie player analysis-

rustyshark- I agree that the end of his post 30 has a whiff of WIFOM to it, as well as a quick blurb in 41. Otherwise all posts are regarding RVS. @rustyshark can you please get an avatar?

MME- Our illustrious IC. I like what I'm seeing so far. It's been my experience that IC's usually Mod as well, and have many games going at once. Therefore their activity is limited, but MME has been active and helpful. If I have one criticism it would be that the RVS discussion should have been nipped in the bud on page 1. But hey, it has created dialogue.

Carrick16- Not much to read into. Has only posted three times, not including his confirmation post... his most recent post indicates that he may be a player that is responsive to questions, which I hope is the case.

Hulk- My predecessor. Not much to say, a newbie that apparently asked to be replaced. He garnered a couple random votes, which distressingly have yet to be removed.

RayFrost- Seems to be a chipper fellow. I like activity, and it appears we'll get plenty from him. I'm aggravated that he introduced (and kept alive) the RVS discussion. I don't like him asking the IC to initiate the RVS, but I'll chalk it up as him wanting the IC to take the lead. He is accused of being a little overeager, and I agree. Nothing inherently wrong with that though.

bigMC109- Hasn't posted much. His most substantive post was 45, and I agree with everything he had to say there- though I think he was a bit harsh on rustyshark.

purple princess- Has been fairly quiet so far. I like that she asks questions, and I like her post 40.

Echo- Also hasn't posted much. Pointed out rustysharks WIFOM comment, and has asked a couple of questions that have no real importance to the game.

Crunchi- Almost no content. A vote for PP and that's about it. Eligible for prod.

So, that's all I got. We're pretty early into this, and there's little to dissect. That the bulk of the conversation has been about peoples opinions on the RVS doesn't help. If anyone has any questions for me I'd be glad to answer them.

I guess a good question at this point would be who is your biggest suspect. But there's so little to go on that the answer is almost meaningless.

Yeah, I can't point to anybody being especially scummy. I guess I'm stuck picking on lurkers.

This seems like such a slow pace game at the moment, would you mind if I asked some questions to get the conversation started?

@ rustyshark & Carrick16; What is your favorite role to play in mafia?

@ starttransmission & RayFrost; How would you decsribe your game play?

@ Crunchi & bigmc109; Do you believe that any information can be found within the random voting stage?

@ Echo & My Milked Eek; What is your opinion on lurkers? are they always scum?

I would describe my game play as... my game play ._."

I don't really have my gameplay set in stone yet, and I probably wouldn't be sure how to describe it anyway. At least, for starting the game out kind of thing...

For replacing in, you could probably just meta me from ongoing games and newbie 815. My usual is to type an analysis post covering everything of relevance in the game so far, ranking each player from scum to town in my personal reads. (and I am annnoyed that I got quick lynched for scum victory in NG816, PP... :| impatience is not a virtue)

Since this is my first game where I didn't replace in... I'm unsure of what my game play will be like and how it'll be different from my replacement game play. I'll probably know a few games of it from now :)

Ever evolving. With every game I complete I get a little more confident. I like to play with a certain aggressiveness... and I'm not quite where I want to be in that department.

I like getting involved in debates, they often require long frequent posts from two parties, and the weighing in of other players can be an excellent way to figure out alignments and possible alliances.

I dunno, after this game you tell me.

Unvote. Vote: Crunchi
But I don't really suspect PP of being mafia, I only voted to be part of the rvs, I'd rather keep my vote off until I find someone.

rustyshark's
"So come on, you scum out there. Start making mistakes so we can lynch you."
made me think he might be, but then a big deal was made out of it and it lost it's sparkle.

startransmission seems to turn everything scum related, which makes it seem like he's scum, but maybe he's just being active.

Up till now I see no reason for purple princess, therefore no reason to keep a vote made randomly.
