Pirate Master - Round Eight/Pirates' Court

400 years ago, pirates scourged the Caribbean Sea, wreaking havoc on the newborn colonies. One man, Captain Henry Steel, managed to amass a treasure now worth $1,000,000. Long ago, the chest containing the way to the treasure was lost to the sea; however, the Chest of Zanzibar has finally been found, and 16 intrepid souls will search for Steel's treasures. The last one standing will claim the final half-million dollars and the title of Pirate Master!

Please submit the following application to be considered as a contestant.

Do not apply if you do not think you can get on the site at least once every 48 hours.

Concept inspired by Kelly Chen. Rules heavily modified from Kelly Chen's deterministic Big Brother.

Rules:

Every game round consists of the following events:

1. Crew Picking
2. Expedition
3. Captain & Officers Selection
4. Treasure Distribution
5. Black Spotting
6. Pirates' Court

Private communication among players is allowed and encouraged at all times. (Talking in-thread is allowed and encouraged as well, of course.) Expedition moves, black spot distribution and votes to cut adrift are sent by PM to the mod. Captain & Officer Selection is done publicly.

This game may have a few twists. These are pre-determined and not designed to screw up any one player. In case any twist conflicts with these rules, the twist supercedes these rules.

If randomness must be used to break a tie in a competition, the resulting winner(s) receive a secret "karma strike" which may preclude them from winning a similar tie in the future.

Every player receives 10,000 Competition Influence Points at the beginning of the game. These CIPs represent your remaining luck, and ability to influence competitions that would otherwise be a complete lottery. You can never get any more points, unless everyone runs out. The expenditure of these points is the sole factor determining who wins each competition. It will never be revealed (during the game) how many points anyone has, or how many they have spent towards any purpose.

1. Crew Picking

Crews will be assigned randomly to the Black and Red Crews; starting in round two, the captain and his officers will always be on the Black Crew. In case of an uneven number of players remaining, the Black Crew will get the extra person.

2. Expedition

Players PM how many points they wish to spend in the competition; they may choose to spend either for or against their crew. The crew receiving the most total points wins the expedition and splits the treasure.

3. Captain & Officer Selection

During Round 1, and after any expedition in which the Red Crew wins, the winning crew will select one of its members to become Captain. The Captain will then select two Officers who function as their second-in-command. The Captain and his Officers receive numerous perks, which will be outlined in their entirety further in the rules.

4. Treasure Distribution

A crew that wins an expedition receives treasure in the form of gold. In week 1 and any time the Black Crew wins, the Captain receives a 50% share of the treasure, the Officers each receive a 12.5% share, and the remaining Crew members split the remaining 25%. The Captain may change the terms of gold distribution if they so choose, but they may not decrease the share that a person receives. If the Red Crew wins, treasure is split evenly between all Red Crew members.

5. Black Spotting

The Captain and his officers deliberate and decide upon 3 players to Black Spot, thus nominating them for elimination. This is done via PM.

6. Pirates' Court

At Pirates' Court, the players vote to cut one player adrift. The Captain, Officers and Black Spotted players may not vote. All other players either cast a vote for a Black Spotted player or Mutiny. If there is a unanimous vote for Mutiny, including both officers, the Captain is cut adrift. If one or both of the officers shoots down the Mutiny, the Captain selects any player of their choosing to cut adrift. If there is not a unanimous vote for Mutiny, all votes for Mutiny are discarded and the Black Spotted player with the most votes is cut adrift.

Regarding "karma strikes": These are entirely secret. You don't get to know what you have, and you can't affect them. They are used solely to prevent randomness (due to ties) from favoring one player repeatedly.

A boat rows under the full moon; 16 intrepid strangers are on board, ready for the ride of a lifetime. They approach a much larger, wooden vessel and board.

Good evening, and welcome to the Picton Castle. This is the start of your journey, and let me tell you, this is no pleasure cruise. The Picton Castle is a working vessel, and while you are on board you are expected to pull your weight. With that in mind, I need four of you to come down and hold this line here, while the rest of you grab that line there and pull.

Slowly, an ornate chest rises from the water.

This is the Chest of Zanzibar, and within are the clues that lead to Captain Henry Steel's massive treasure. As of now, we only have the key to the first compartment; let's open it up now.

Inside lay two compasses and a map.

This is the map to the first treasure of Captain Henry Steel. Tomorrow morning, you will be heading out on your first expedition in order to find it. Until then, get yourselves some rest.

The next morning dawns far too quickly.

Good morning, pirates. Today we will be picking crews for the first expedition. If you pick a piece of black shot out of the bag, you are on the Black Crew. If you pick a piece of red shot out of the bag, you are on the Red Crew. The two crews will be competing against each other to see who can find the treasure the fastest. I'll be calling you up one by one to pick your pieces out of the bag.
