There are a number of How to Books in the How To Section. How to drive out demons, how to make a burger, how to operate on an uncooperative cat, how to eat metal, how to get a guiness book of records record. In fact, there are so many topics here, you may have to be specific. Merrick should be able to help you find what you need, if you have anything in mind.

You pocket a
red pen.

Oh my, this is quite the collection, isn't it?

Merrick, I know this is a bit out there, but do you have any books on self-defense or tips on surviving armed assailants? Especially those with guns or knives. I'm studying martial arts, you see.

Merrick offers you "
Surviving Armed Assailants
" for Twenty Dollars. You look at the book, and conclude that it's waffly, but it's too hard to tell if it's useful without buying it and spending some time with it.

Dang, Merrick, you're killin' me here. I'm a bit tight on pocket money. I'll have to get back to you on that one.

What's available in the clearance, I wonder..

Check the junk section for anything combat, money, or Kowhai Mall-related.

The wooden stake looks to be about the length of a keyboard. It seems quite pointy and dangerous.

You take a pamphlet.

Merrick says he has no idea what it stands for, but they were put here by someone who is regularly around. Must be a mall employee, but he doesnt know them personally.

The history section contains history books about various wars, countries, people, the dcMonalds franchise and the trademark battles it keeps having with some obscure burger joint, and a book about the history of kowhai mall. Shrink wrapped, and you got it, a 20.00 price tag. This place sure charges for books.

Hm, it would perhaps be more apt to describe me as broke and curious. The mall interests me greatly, but if these book prices are any indicator, I'm not sure I have many choices for shopping.

Anything on the shelves catch your eye yet?

Idly look through the church history section

The crosswords section contains crossword books, solver aids, dictionaries and other fun puzzles for the keen. The church history section contains a history of religion across the last two thousand years, and an autobiography of Father Jack Solitaire, whoever that is.

"Apparently there's some kind of meteor storm going on outside tonight? Was looking for info about that. Mostly I'm just browsing until they can get the front doors back open."

Go to Merrick

"Hi man, do you have any books about tonight's meteor storm? Astronomy, astrology, that kind of shit."

Really? This is the first I'm hearing about that. That's pretty wild.

Hope they can get the doors open soon. I'd love to see that for myself.

Merrick:

"Say yes, that thar meteor storm. She's an annual event! We have Draconid AND Orionid meteors occuring together even as we speak right now, but they peak later tonight. It always puts on a decent display. Not sure I have any books on the topic, but I'll root around later on and see what I can come up with. I would imagine it will be pretty visible from the carpark, or perhaps even the graveyard across the road. Not a place I'd hang out in the dark mind you, haha. There's probably some good viewing points even from inside the mall, where its nice and warm.
... Oh I see you met our local feminist there! Just ignore her. She finds a way to be personally offended by everything. We even bought her a cake with sprinkles once and she got offended that the proportion of pink was inferior to the blue. Crazy girl if ya ask me. She does her job well though."

The psychology books talk about all kinds of aspects of psychology. Schizophrenia, Multiple Personality disorder, Treatments for depression. Perhaps if you had something specific you were after Merrick could make some suggestions.

"Oh, that's a weight off my mind. I thought I'd really fucked up. I should probably stop by and apologise later though."

"Why do you have a whole section on Church history, anyway, this a devout town?"

"And what'd be the price of one of these crossword books?"

"Anything out of the ordinary ever happen during the meteor storm?"

"There wouldn't be any cults that come out and worship it, or perhaps crime sprees that happen spontaneously while everyone watches the storm, would there?"

Check the reference section for books related to the mall or the local town/area
