Marathon Day Discussion

This thread is for... well, figuring out how to make this thing work. That, and random chat.

Once we're underway, post links to signup threads and requests for replacements on bold

So if I want to mod a game I just make a sign up thread?

I doubt making this free market would work very well.

Some initial thoughts:
  • We should be able to have plenty of small (5/7 player) games spread over the day. I'm thinking hour-per-day deadlines could work well, and so if someone is going to be on a few hours and wants to run a game, they can start a signup thread with the hours the game is expected to last.
  • Scumchat is your friend. It will probably be a lot easier to fill a game if most everyone is in scumchat, and you're less likely to miss a new signup as well.
  • I
    strongly
recommend that players limit themselves to a game or two at a time.
  • Having a standard list of rules and other mod tools in this thread would probably be useful, as a timesaver.

A bit of Theme Testing: would anyone particularly (not) want to play any of these?

5 players:
Resilient Mafia (2 scums, 3 townies with 3 lives each, night start)
Dethtrap Conspiracy

7 players:
Toddler C9 (2) (3 townies, [doc and mafia blocker] or [townie and goon], [cop and goon] or [townie and townie], day start)

I have some ideas for ~12p setups as well, but not sure they'll fit in.

Depending on time I'll look at modding a 7 player Reverse Mafia C9.

Dethtrap Conspiracy

I think I still like this version the best:
I think the best version of the setup may be with the Traitor and possibly the Lyncher showing up as townies on death, the Traitor getting a (mandatory) vengekill if lynched, and both the Traitor and the Lyncher losing on a TINC vote.
but no version has been tried yet (as far as I know) and you could take it in a lot of different directions.

If I was going to run Reverse Mafia C9 I'd probably need a comod in case it goes on after my time limit. Any volunteers?

Am I to understand we still go through the same rules on hosting a game as normal.

I am not too concerned about mod requirements and all that. Given that this is only one day, if only half the games fail miserably I'll consider that a huge success.

I would say that if you don't meet the requirements for signing up to mod a game in the normal fashion, you probably shouldn't be modding one for MD. Otherwise, if you're willing to mod feel free to start a thread (but don't be disappointed if people choose to sign up for a different game).

(It should go without saying, but I'll say it anyway: modding a game for MD will not count for experience in the normal queues, any more than a scumchat game does.)

Letting the setup depend on the number of signups seems like a good idea for other games also. Maybe for weird numbers it's worth digging through old opens or the open thread.
And this game will be quick, Days last a maximum of 30 minutes and Nights last a maximum of 15 minutes.
This too, maybe.
The end justifies the means.

CD, I'd be happy to comod your test reverse mafia setup, I loved that game. Check the Marathon Day Committment Thread for my available times.

Since we can just start a game, from my understanding, I think I might start setups and begin the game in about an hour and a half, two hours... Hmm...

I like the idea, but I don't know if I'll be on the whole time for the whole time. An idea is that we keep this forum open for fast games after this day. Also it sucks I can't mod yet.

Someone run Lyncher tomorrow Afternoon. I'll most definitely play.

Say in..... 17 hours or so?

Also, could we keep this like a permanent forum for quick marathon pickup games?

It's a tad inconvenient, but that was always likely because of my slightly extraneous timezone. We'd both be off at annoying times.

What I'm gonna do is start signups, so that it should be filled by the time I get back online, and if there's someone else who could plug the modding gap (I would be trying to start at 3:30 GMT, probably up to 9:30 GMT with one longer night in there where I can have dinner. That makes the gap 9:30 PM GMT to 3:30 AM GMT, or 4:30 AM EST to 10:30 PM AM EST).

Anyone who could plug that gap, please pipe up ASAP and win CDB's everlasting love.

More Theme Testing:

Marathon Damage Mafia (2 scum, 4 townies, nightless, everyone starts with 10 hp, hit people with at least 10 minutes between hits)

I'll run a game at about 17-18 GMT.

I'll be running another game starting around 15:00 GMT. I'll post the signup thread about an hour in advance.
