Newbie 960 - Game Over

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue May 18, 2010 7:01 am

Post by inHimshallibe »

Welcome to Newbie Game 960 -
Evil abounds! Cast it out of your fair town!

To those who have played before - I hope you enjoy!

To those of you who are new - welcome to the site, and the game of Mafia!
  • The opening posts are where all the basic, yet essential, game information is kept posted. If you have trouble finding anything in the thread, it never hurts to look at the opening posts.
  • The player list shows all participants in the game. Those who are labeled "Alive" are still playing, while those labeled "Dead" are out of the game:
Alive
:

andrew94

Equinox

I Am Innocent
(SE) - replaces Kenman
Locke Lamora
(SE) - replaces NomDePlume
Nikanor
- replaces ToG - replaces mb53

(Those in bold have confirmed.)

SE - Semi-Experienced, has completed three games on the site.
IC - Inexperience-Challenged, has completed five games on the site.
The moderator must remain impartial to gameplay, so game specific questions that are not activity/setup/votecount/mechanics related should be directed to one of these more experienced players.

Dead
:

imkingdavid
- Townie, Lynched Day 1
Memnon
- Cop, Killed Night 1
Netopalis
- replaces Skill006 - replaces Titiboo - Townie, Lynched Day 2
jasonT1981
(IC) - replaces Sotty7 - replaces wolframnhart - Townie, Killed Night 2
  • Upon a player's death, their cause of death and role will be revealed to the town.
  • As a moderator, I post updates of the game. Check here to see what you need to be doing:
It is now Day 2. With 7 players alive, it takes 4 to lynch. The Mafia may NOT talk during this time.

Deadline for Day 1 has been extended to Monday June 14, 10:00 pm CST. If no majority has been reached by then, no one will be lynched.

Rules
:
  • Please bold your
    vote: Player
. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted.
  • Please be attentive and
    unvote
, if necessary, before casting a new vote. This is not required, but it helps in making the vote counts accurate.
  • Lynches will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded. You may also
    vote: no lynch
    – majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.
  • There will be strict three-week deadlines set at the beginning of each Day. If no majority vote has been reached by the deadline, no lynch will occur and the game will proceed to Night.
  • The game is not to be discussed outside of the thread unless your role specifically states when you may do so.
  • Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. No posting about this game until after the game is over.
  • Do not edit or delete previously submitted posts.
  • Do not quote any PMs from the moderator.
  • Encrypted text or invisible posts are not allowed.
  • Any action resulting in a modkill may result in a change from Day to Night or vice versa.
  • If you have a night choice to make, please make it in a timely matter. If I must post a deadline, then choices sent after said deadline will not be counted.
  • If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 72-hour period, please PM the moderator or post a notice to that effect in the thread.
  • Most importantly: this is a game. Play it for fun, and play it as well as you possibly can. I expect nothing less.

Newbie games are played with 9 players in the semi-open F11 setup. Of these players, 2 are evil, the Mafia. It is the town's goal to rid themselves of Mafia, and vice versa.
Here are the possible ways roles may be distributed
:
5 Townies, 1 Cop, 1 Doctor, 1 Mafia Goon, 1 Mafia Roleblocker
6 Townies, 1 Cop, 2 Mafia Goons
6 Townies, 1 Doctor, 2 Mafia Goons
7 Townies, 1 Mafia Goon, 1 Mafia Roleblocker

Here are the corresponding Role PMs to be assigned to each rolename
:
Townie - Member of the Town.

You win when the Mafia has been successfully removed from the game, and at least one member of the Town remains alive. You win whether you are dead or alive at game's end. You have no Night actions.
Cop - Member of the Town.

You win when the Mafia has been successfully removed from the game, and at least one member of the Town remains alive. You win whether you are dead or alive at game's end. You have a Night action - send the moderator a PM each Night indicating a player you would like to investigate. If you are not roleblocked, the moderator will then return a PM stating whether or not the indicated person is "Town" or "Mafia."
Doctor - Member of the Town.

You win when the Mafia has been successfully removed from the game, and at least one member of the Town remains alive. You win whether you are dead or alive at game's end. You have a Night action - send the moderator a PM each Night indicating a player you would like to try and protect from being killed by the Mafia. You may not protect yourself. If you are not roleblocked, a kill on the player will be prevented.
Mafia Goon - Member of the Mafia.

You win when the Town has been successfully removed from the game, or nothing can prevent the same. You win whether dead or alive at game's end. You have a partner: _____. During pre-game and each Night, the two of you may communicate with each other to discuss Night kill and/or roleblock choices, Day strategies, and so on. Then, one person of the Mafia will send the moderator a PM each Night indicating a player you would like to kill. Barring the protection of the Doctor, that player will die before the beginning of the next Day.
Mafia Roleblocker - Member of the Mafia.

You win when the Town has been successfully removed from the game, or nothing can prevent the same. You win whether dead of alive at game's end. You have a partner: _____. During pre-game and each Night, the two of you may communicate with each other to discuss Night kill and/or roleblock choices, Day strategies, and so on. Then, one person of the Mafia will send the moderator a PM each Night indicating a player you would like to kill. As the roleblocker, as long as you are alive, you may also send the moderator a PM indicating a player you would like to roleblock. Roleblocking a player's actions at Night prevents them from receiving results. If you are the only member of the Mafia, you may roleblock AND kill.

All players have confirmed their roles. Day 1 will begin now.

With 9 players alive, it takes 5 votes to lynch.

Hello everyone! A special Hello to both Ren and NDP, have played with both and won with both as town, glad to see familiar faces.

First off some Rules of Thumb:
1. Keep your role a secret. Mafia want to find cops/docs; revealing who the vanilla townies are helps them narrow it down. If you think someone's a cop, keep quiet about it.
2. Do not roleclaim unless you are one vote from being lynched (L-1) and someone who isn't voting for you asks you to claim.
3. Equally, do not hammer (place the lynching vote on) someone without doing #2, unless you're five minutes from deadline or something. Lynching the cop sucks.
4. Do not lie, especially about your role. Just don't.
5. It's better to let the claimed cop/doc live a night or two; usually the mafia have to kill them off that night in any case.
6. Remember that mafia can fake-claim. Do not let the ultra-suspicious claimed doc live indefinitely just because of #5.
7. Don't vote yourself! It won't do any good.
8. Try and cause people to give interesting (informative!) reactions rather than passively looking at what's already been said, especially early in the game. Asking (useful) questions is good.
9. Have fun! Smile

I've decided on bold, blue font as the moderator's font. Any edits into posts (like vote counts at the top of a page) will be made using this font.

Do not use the bold, blue font, because then I'll have to change colors. I'm no chameleon, just a moderator.

It means he wants to know who the complete newbs are, because they can make an easy target for his scum tactics.

Whoa, L-2 already? What's the rush, mb53?

(For those who are unfamiliar: L-# refers to the number of votes remaining before someone is lynched. In this instance, three people have voted to hang NomDePlume; since an execution on Day 1 requires five votes, NomDePlume is two votes away, L-2, from getting killed.)
mb53 wrote:It means he wants to know who the complete newbs are, because they can make an easy target for his scum tactics.
Interesting reasoning. However, I can see town doing this to see if andrew94's inexperience would affect his play.

I realize your reasons may be part of the random voting stage, but... L-2?

Why so jumpy about putting a person at L-2 Equinox? there is nothing wrong with a wagon to get info, and to get out of the RVS stage.

Do you think that NDP would be quickly hammered?
Do you think that andrew's probable inexperience will affect his play?

L-2 is not that bad, no one will put him at L-1 or hammer without a decent amount of evidence. And if they do, that is a serious scum tell.

Why does Ren refer to herself as multiple people?

I recently read through a couple of games that had really quick days. I guess that made me a little "overcautious" about RVS wagons.

Sorry. I wasn't reading through the lines.

They mentioned something about dissociative identity disorder. Hmm... Maybe it's a scummy side and a townie side, bound together in one body?
