jmj3000: 6

jmj3000 begins searching the bedroom for any clues about the combination. In the nightstand, he finds a small slip of paper with the numbers 17-38-9 scrawled on it. He enters it on the combination wheel, but it fails to open. Brow furrowed in though, he then checks the dresser. He finds another slip of paper, this one with the numbers 3-21-32. But the safe still will not open.

Discouraged, jmj3000 decides to check the lone closet in the room before giving up. Inside, he finds a shoebox full of little slips of paper, all with sets of three numbers written in the same scrawling script.

Klazam: 5

AurorusVox: 6

After retrieving more chocolate, AurorusVox sets out to find a bowling alley. Klazam absentmindedly follows his partner in crime, not noticing nor caring where they are going. He happily noms on chocolate during the walk.

Focusing on his chocolate, Klazam says, "Hey, AV, after this how about we-"

But his suggestion is cut short. AurorusVox claps his hand over Klazam's mouth and frantically motions for him to be quiet. He points at the front of the bowling alley; there seems to be movement inside.

CSL: 6

CSL thinks of the best way to seek an opening. She sees her wand in the corner and looks at it thoughtfully. She retrieves it and aims at the bunker door. A second later, the wand emits a powerful bolt of energy. The resulting explosion tears the door off its hinges and rocks the entire bunker; a moment later, the generator coughs to a halt and the lights go out.

After a moment, the sound of moaning can be distinctly heard in the silence.

Zodiark13: 2

Zodiark13 gratefully lies down and closes his eyes to concentrate on his psychic abilities. He is just about to gain the necessary focus when CSL's explosion distracts him. And then, when he is trying again, Riley lies on him, her head on his stomach, and...

animorpherv1: 5

...animorpherv1 emits an evil howl that might, from sufficiently far away and with enough background noise, be mistaken for singing. Despite Zodiark13's discomfort, Riley is apparently quite appreciative of it, and with a cheerful purr falls asleep.

jmj3000 picks up the box of paper slips and walks back to the safe, where he sets the box down. He sits next to the safe, ready for a long day of entering combinations. His day is cut short when he tries to twist the dial to the first number. The dial is stuck fast.

Klazam: 6

AurorusVox: 2

Having finished their last bits of chocolate, Klazam and AurorusVox creep towards the glass doors of the bowling alley, axes and nail-board at the ready.

"Over there!" AurorusVox whispers, pointing to the main counter. He looks over at Klazam, who stands up and opens the door. "What are you doing?!?" AurorusVox hisses.

"What? I don't see anything." Klazam responds as he enters the lobby. That changes as several dark shapes stand up from behind the counter, hearing the loud clinking of Klazam's armor. They look at each other with a strange lack of moaning and shuffling.

animorpherv1: 1

Walk out of the bunker.

CSL: 2

Follow animorpherv1.

Zodiark13: 4

Follow CLS in following ani.

The three survivors collect their respective stuff and prepare to evacuate the bunker. animorpherv1 leads, and CSL and Zodiark13 follow behind.

Oblivious to the preparations of the survivors, Riley falls asleep and starts snoring.

"So, where are we going to go next?" CSL wonders aloud.

"Hopefully somewhere that has more weapons!" Zodiark13 says gleefully before running into CSL, who has been stopped by animorpherv1.

Riley's snoring seems to have attracted the horde of zombies, and several of them are standing at the entrance to the bunker. They look hungry.

Turn 46 Resolution

jmj3000: 1

Giving up on the pile of combinations, jmj3000 collects his shotgun and ammo bag and heads down the stairs. He walks out the door and sets off towards the nearest shopping center. A couple blocks down, he sees a large group of zombies looking at the side of a house, seemingly into the ground. Several laggers notice him and shuffle in his direction.

Zodiark13: 4

Calmly backing away from the zombies, Zodiark13 then creeps up to Riley. He gently pats her head, warily watching her teeth. Riley opens her eyes and blinks before licking Zodiark13's face. She notices the zombies with a steely glint in her eyes. She opens her mouth and roars. The zombies don't respond, and she charges them.

Klazam: 4

Klazam utters a battle-cry and charges the counter. He leaps onto it and axes the first "zombie." It utters a shrill cry and falls. The other two flee deeper into the building, chattering the whole time.

AurorusVox: 1

Meanwhile, AurorusVox is desperately trying to find his flashlight. He finds it after a frantic search, and turns it on. The beam of light lasts for a couple seconds, flickers, and dies. The batteries are out of juice.

CSL: 4

CSL chants and waves her wand. Her eyes turn icy blue and ice begins to form around the zombies. The first four are frozen in place. They can't move, but the ranks behind them push forward with their slow but superhuman strength. Cracks start to spider across the ice, but it should hold for another minute or so.

animorpherv1: 5

Desperately scrambling away from the zombies, animorpherv1 tears apart the bunker for a weapon. He finds one.

jmj3000: 3

jmj3000 sprints to the side of the zombies, trying to avoid getting bitten. His shotgun roars and the two nearest zombie-heads explode. He runs through the gap to the other side of the horde. There are no more zombies blocking his way, but there are several chasing him.

Zodiark13: 2

Zodiark13 thrusts his palm forward, propelling psychic energy at the zombies. The ice absorbs all the energy but does not crack.

Klazam: 3

Carefully eyeing the body, Klazam moves closer. In the dim light, he can see that it is

not

the body of a zombie - or, indeed, a human being. The general shape is not far divorced from humanity, but as far as Klazam can tell it is shorter and scaled, like a lizard, and there is something decidedly peculiar about the limbs. A coppery tang wafts from its wounds.

AurorusVox: 6

As Klazam is distracted inspecting the corpse, AurorusVox circles the foyer and wanders off into the hallway, looking around carefully. He enters a room and promptly trips over the doorframe. He looks up to see two pairs of distinctly non-human feet. The door quietly closes behind him, pushed by some unknown force.

CSL: 2

Inspired by animorpherv1's find, CSL checks the same area of the bunker for a medieval weapon. She is soon joined by Riley (who, however, appears more interested in begging for food than helping her search) but finds nothing.

animorpherv1: 1

Taking a stance in the middle of the floor facing the zombies, animorpherv1 hefts his RPC and takes aim. Unfortunately, when he pulls the trigger, the force of the blast knocks him off balance, and the chainsaw goes tearing through the ceiling plaster as animorpherv1 goes over in a heap on the ground, hitting his head.

animorpherv1 will have a -1 for the next round.

Turn 48 Resolution

jmj3000: 3

Running as best as he can, jmj3000 outdistances the mob for the six blocks between himself and the gun store. He has just rounded the corner and stumbled to a halt in front of the store when he sees that the store appears to be closed up securely, with bars across the windows - and, sure enough, the door is locked.

A moment later, the first of the zombies round the corner behind him.

Zodiark13: 5

Zodiark13 thrusts his palm out again, shattering the ice and sending a wave of bodies flying away into the darkness. With a roar, Riley jumps into the breach, and as Zodiark13 follows, he can see that the crowd attacking the bunker is well annihilated.

Riley, who after her initial charge, has become distracted rooting through the bodies, soon makes a growling noise as she tugs at something attached to one of the bodies. On looking closer, Zodiark13 discovers that she has found a 9-mm submachine gun which one of the zombies had apparently been carrying.

Zodiark13 is now carrying an MP5 (containing an unknown number of bullets).

Klazam: 3

Not wanting to take any chances, Klazam begins hacking the body of the creature to pieces. He works at this for about five minutes, doing some amount of damage, before deciding that it is almost certainly dead.

AurorusVox: 5

"Uh," says AurorusVox, seeing the distinctly reptilian features of the creature before him. He then starts hissing, imitating the sounds of his pet iguana of years before, attempting to convey through a mixture of lizard signal and mime the idea that he is seeking help against the zombies.

Much to his surprise, the alien responds in kind.

"Why would we help you against our own zombies?" it says.

CSL: 3

animorpherv1: 5-1=4

As animorpherv1 lets go of the fired RPC, CSL rushes up.

"Are you all right?" she asks.

"Ugh - give me a hand, will you?" he replies.

CSL does, and, though she staggers badly against his weight, she braces well enough to help animorpherv1 regain his feet.

jmj3000 turns and runs from the zombies down the block, keeping an eye open for an alley or street he can take to get to the back of the building. He's just halfway down the block when he glances at a big pickup truck across the street ... and suddenly changes direction to cut straight for it.

Sure enough, the keys

are

in the ignition. And, sure enough, the engine turns over.

He drops it into reverse first, to get a good long run-up, then puts it in drive and floors it, turning the wheel left at just the right moment...

The window to the gun store is smashed, and the bars caved in far enough to admit entry.

jmj3000 is hanging from the seat belts of an upside-down Ford F350, off down the street and across the intersection from the gun store. He will suffer a

-1

from disorientation next turn.

The zombies are scattered across the entire block facing the gun store. Several are intact enough to be running for the flipped pickup.

Zodiark13: 1

Filled with a holy desire to cleanse the world of the undead, Zodiark13 turns back to his comrades.

"This way, men! Forward!" He yells in his best general-voice as he walks backwards toward the zombies.

Only to smash into the wall next to the door.

Zodiark13 will have a

-1

next turn.

Klazam: 1

Satisfied with his job on the corpse, Klazam glances around, but does not see AurorusVox. With a shrug, he keeps a weather eye out for zombies, and starts backing toward the door.

He has made it about five feet before there is something rather like an explosion, and flying masonry smashes into him, throwing him through the windows and across the street.

Klazam will suffer a

next turn from having his breath knocked out of him.

AurorusVox: 6

AurorusVox is in sheer shock for a moment. Then he finds himself filled with an incandescent anger, unlike any he has ever felt. With a mighty roar, he drops to his four feet to headbutt the creature, and everything seems to shrink to tiny proportions around him as he grows with invincible power to smash it against - and

through

- the wall.

A moment later, the building collapses with him inside.

AurorusVox is now a triceratops, and buried in the rubble that used to be a bowling alley. He will be

to move next round.

CSL: 5

CSL, enraptured by Zodiark13's speech, springs to her feet the moment Zodiark13 began to march. She thrusts her wand in the air and cries, "Companions of Riley, come forth!"

From the beam of the wand springs a large lynx.

Ignoring Zodiark13 completely, animorpherv1 leaves the bunker to hunt for further armament. Exploring the neighborhood, he finds an open garage which, among numerous other items, contains a large case of dynamite.

Dazed from the crash, jmj3000 kicks open the door and climbs out of the upside-down truck. He bends down and pulls out his bag and his shotgun, then rises and steps away from the vehicle.

His eyes widen when he sees the zombies he had driven through a moment before, charging almost within arm's length.

Zodiark13: 4-1=3

CSL: 5

Zodiark13 calls to his "troops" again. He charges forward on the left, while Riley and the lynx growl and attack on the right. They smash through the first row of frozen zombies, but are beaten back by the mobile ones behind.

Just when things are going south, CSL attacks with a battle cry. The zombies are beaten back, and the survivors manage to reach the top of the stairs. More zombies are on the lawn.

Klazam: 2

Klazam hobbles outside and sits on the sidewalk, resting from his recent exertions. His respite is cut short by a huge crash from inside the alley.

AurorusVox: 3

AurorusVox rampages around the bowling alley, thoroughly enjoying his new form. He knocks through a couple walls and makes it back to the main lobby, but doesn't accomplish much else.

animorpherv1: 2

animorpherv1 picks up about a dozen dry, crumbly sticks of dynamite, noticing a clear pool of liquid at the bottom of the box. He walks back out of the garage and hurries back up the street to where Zodiark13's army is on the assault.

jmj3000 pumps the action of the shotgun to load another shell when he realizes that it is empty. As the zombies approach, he calmly backs down the street, loading one, two, three, four, five, six, seven shells ...

The head of the first zombie explodes as the buckshot tears straight through.

The second zombie is entirely decapitated by the blast.

jmj3000 pauses, eyeing the street for other targets on the approach, but sees only a single crawling zombie, its legs dragging behind it as if it has no control over them. jmj3000 takes eight steps, raises his gun, and fires again.

Standing in the middle of the now-silent street, jmj3000 begins loading more shells.

jmj3000 is now carrying a shotgun loaded with one buckshot shell and two slugs. There are no more shotgun shells in his bag.

Klazam: 6

AurorusVox: 5

Klazam walks towards the crashing sound, and subsequently finds an triceratops. It bends down to allow him to climb aboard. Klazam hoists himself up and it soon seated on the dinosaur's neck. As it stands back up, his head smashes through the plaster ceiling.

Klazam's head is stuck in the ceiling; he cannot move until he is un-stuck.

Zodiark13: 2

CSL: 3

animorpherv1: 5

The trio+2 continue the assault. Riley and the lynx fight their way into the yard, decapitating zombies the whole way. They are soon surrounded and badly wounded. As the zombies close in, Zodiark13 and CSL try to rescue their feline friends. Just when all seems lost, they hear a cry from the street.

"Die, zombies, die!" screams animorpherv1 as he chucks his dynamite at the zombies. It doesn't explode, but distracts them long enough for animorpherv1 to close. He starts knocking down zombies left and right, beating back the horde. He reaches the cats, just as CSL and Zodiark13 appear at the top of the stairs. They are surrounded by several dozen re-dead zombies.

Glancing casually up and down the street to ensure that no zombies were in sight, jmj3000 ambles back along to the front of the gun shop. He spends a moment peering into the shadowed interior before deciding he is satisfied that no zombies are to be found there; then carefully picks his way through the broken glass and squeezes between the bars into the store. It's a fairly small store, and all the guns visible are locked to racks on the wall. All ammunition is in a large safe behind the counter.

As jmj3000 completes this visual inspection of the store, a head peeks out from behind the counter.

jmj3000 has encountered mb53, a high school offensive lineman. He is holding an M1911-style pistol.

Klazam: 1

Blinded by plaster dust, Klazam begins flailing away at the ceiling around his head to try to pry himself loose. Within moments, he discovers both that his head is wedged between two ceiling rafters and that the triceratops seems to have wandered off, leaving him

supported

by his head wedged between two ceiling rafters. As he continues to beat his hands against the ceiling trying to break it open to escape, he hears - and feels, transmitted through the timbers - loud smashing sounds.

AurorusVox: 6

AurorusVox, feeling cramped even in the large lobby of the bowling alley, begins to smash his powerful tail and horns against the walls, knocking great big holes in several before driving his way through the front wall and into the street. He is just shaking the dust from his scales when the entire building collapses behind him in a tremendous cloud of debris.

Klazam has been killed.

Zodiark13: 3

CSL: 4

animorpherv1: 4

With the help of the tiger and the lynx, together the survivors continue their zombie-killing crusade. The rest of the zombies in the area are soon decapitated, with two having had their skulls smashed by Zodiark13 after his MP5 ran out of bullets. Re-dead bodies litter the lawn and street. Their work done for the moment, the five warriors sit down on the sidewalk for a breathing spell.

"Yeah, sure", mb53 says, pulling a key from his pocket. "I was thinking of loading up myself. What do you need?"

"20-gauge", says jmj3000. "Birdshot, if you see any."

"No problem." mb53 starts passing out boxes. "I'm going to go ahead and grab a rifle and bullets for that while this is open - let me know if you need anything else."

"Thanks", says jmj3000. He packs away the boxes of ammo and starts loading the gun.

jmj3000 is now carrying a shotgun loaded with one buckshot, two slugs, and four birdshot shells. His bag now has three boxes of birdshot, one with six instead of ten.

mb53 is now carrying an IMI Galil assault rifle and fifty 20-round boxes of 5.56x45mm NATO rounds. He will be at -1 for anything involving motion.

Zodiark13: 2

Sitting down on the sidewalk, Zodiark13 blocks out the murring and miaouing of the lynx and the snow leopard and begins practicing for a spelling bee in his head.

AurorusVox mourns for his salsa-fied comrade, bellowing loudly and thrashing around. His sorrowful antics seem to have attracted the attention of some shadowy-grey figures across the road.

CSL tries to chill some water she found nearby, but realizes that her wand was broken during the battle.

CSL has lost all of her magical abilities.

animorpherv1: 1

animorpherv1 stands up and dusts himself off, ready to explore their surroundings more. He steps off the curb into a large pothole, twisting his ankle.

animorpherv1 has a severely twisted ankle and will have a -1 for movement for the next two turns.

jmj3000: 2

jmj3000 browses the shop, looking for a pistol to add to his arsenal. He sees an exceptionally shiny one and picks it up. It has a trigger lock and cannot be operated until he can remove it. He looks around, trying to find mb53, who has disappeared with the keys.

mb53: 5-1 = 4

Struggling under the weight of his rifle and ammunition, mb53 nevertheless makes it up a service ladder to the roof of the gun store. He has an excellent, panoramic view of the entire city. A few blocks over, he can see the liquor store where this all started, as well as the church across the street. Nearer, he can see a house surrounded by dozens of dead zombies. He smiles grimly and turns around to view the downtown area.

His smile instantly disappears.

Zodiark13: 5

Zodiark13 closes his eyes and concentrates intently. His toes start to tingle, and the sensation spreads to the rest of his body. One time-space rift and a hellish departicalization later, he finds himself on the roof next to a rather large, muscular human.

"Who are you and where am I?" Zodiark13 asks.

mb53 silently raises his arm and points.

"What am I supposed to be...." Zodiark falls silent as he follows mb53's gesture.

AurorusVox: 2

AurorusVox lowers his horns and charges at the grey figures, roaring for his dead comrade (who he actually killed himself). A split second before they would be impaled, the figures sidestep the clumsy triceratops.

CSL: 3

CSL starts walking towards the shopping district of the city with the two cats in tow. She sees a sign for the gun shop and heads toward it. She is nearly there when she is tackled by Riley who starts licking her face, apparently sorry for the loss of her magic.

animorpherv1: 3

animorpherv1 starts daydreaming about how much he would like a nice red mushroom right now. He wakes up to find himself alone; CSL and Zodiark13 seem to have left without telling him.

Across the downtown from the gun store, planted on top of what used to be the high-voltage power line right-of-way, is a jet-black tower, forming a fat cone about a hundred feet high and sixty feet across at the base. The electrical transmission towers seem to be torn down for about a quarter mile in either direction from the tower, and what looks like some sort of camp has been constructed at the base of the tower. Figures can be seen moving among the buildings.

jmj3000 picks up the pistol and looks around the empty shop. He notices the open stepladder to the roof, and starts walking over to check if mb53 is up there.

A moment later, mb53 is no longer up there, as the high-school lineman misses a step under his staggeringly heavy load of armaments and tumbles ingloriously to the ground.

"Erm ... are you all right?" asks jmj3000.

"Nnnnuh." replies mb53.

"...can I have the keys to open the trigger lock on this?" asks jmj3000.

mb53 groans, then wiggles slightly, freeing his arm to hold out the keys. jmj3000 picks them out of his hand.

"Thanks!"

"Mmuh."

mb53 has taken a bad fall. He will be at -1 next turn.

jmj3000 is now equipped with a 9mm Beretta 92FS loaded with fifteen rounds - the remaining 45 rounds from the liquor store are in his bag.

Zodiark13: 2

As mb53 makes his way to the ladder, Zodiark13 tries to make out more details about the tower. The glare from the afternoon sun makes it difficult for him to see anything of value, and he is soon distracted by the sound of two hundred and fifty pounds of linebacker carrying fifty pounds of armament tumbling down eight feet of stepladder.

AurorusVox: 6

AurorusVox smashes his feet into the ground, trying to cause a tremor and knock his opponents off-balance. Instead, the asphalt gives way and he sinks into the ground. His bellowing fails to intimidate his grey-skinned assailants, a dozen of whom quickly surround him.

In the distance, AurorusVox hears a faint roaring. So do the grey creatures, who chitter amongst themselves before several break off and head towards the noise.

CSL: 3

CSL carefully picks her way through the window into the gun store. She sees jmj3000 admiring his new gun.

"So," she says, "Anything for a lady?"

Outside, Riley casts her head about looking for animorpherv1, and roars loudly into the air when she doesn't see him. The lynx looks at her with an expression as profoundly incredulous as is possible for a cat.

animorpherv1: 4

Also hearing Riley's roars, animorpherv1 quickly makes his way towards the downtown area. A few minutes later, he sees the cats outside the store and Zodiark13 on the roof, glancing back and forth between something below him and something outside towards the downtown area.

Turn 56 Resolution

jmj3000: 2

Zodiark13: 2

His shotgun and pistol loaded, jmj3000 tucks the latter into a holster and the former into his bag, and he crosses the room back towards the ammunition safe. On his way there, he sees Riley eel through the doorway from off the street, and hears Zodiark13 descending the ladder from the roof.

"Hey, cat," jmj3000 says, pausing in his stride. He can hear Zodiark13 walking up behind him.

"Mrrow!" says Riley, plaintively.

"Mrow to you to," he says, and tries to step around. As he sidesteps, Zodiark13 begins to speak: "Hey, J., can I talk to you about..."

"MRROW!" Riley interrupts. The snow leopard plants itself firmly in jmj3000's way, staring pleadingly into his eyes.

"...oh, you're hungry, aren't you?" says jmj3000, as Zodiark13 gives up on trying to get his attention. "Wow, um ... I don't know what to offer. I'm not carrying anything."

"Mrrow?"

"...dangit."

mb53: 2-1 = 1

Meanwhile, mb53 catches his breath and begins nerving himself up for what comes next. Carefully rolling over and up into a sitting position, mb53 positions one leg under himself and starts levering himself to his feet.

Whereupon he instantly falls over with a gasp.

mb53 has a sprained ankle. He will be at -2 for anything involving standing for the next turn.

CSL: 1

Taking the keys from jmj3000, CSL goes browsing around the perimeter of the store, checking all the cases for weaponry. Eventually, she ends up behind the counter, where she discovers the owner's AR-15.

"Sweet!" she yells, interrupting Riley's yowls. "Hey, guys, check this out!" She grabs the gun from under the counter and yanks it out.

It is rather unfortunate that modern high school education does not include such things as "trigger discipline". Or, for that matter, "always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction".

CSL has shot herself in the foot. She will be at -1 for anything involving standing until further notice.

animorpherv1: 1

While this commotion is going on inside the gun store, animorpherv1 decides to scout out the rest of the stores on the block, just in case there is something useful to be found.

Halfway down the block, he finds a Latino grocery with an open door. Approaching closer, he sees that the lock is blown out - possibly by a shotgun shell. Walking inside, he sees that the shelves have been largely undisturbed near the door, and are well stocked with dry goods of various descriptions. He is about halfway down one aisle when he notices juicy tearing and gnashing sounds from further back.

As he approaches the meat refrigerators, he sees why.

Apparently, the wielder of the shotgun was not a careful shopper. A plastic grocery basket lies on one side on the ground, the shotgun a few feet away, and zombies are crowded around the open meat fridge.

One of the zombies on the fringe of the crowd turns.

And when animorpherv1 looks behind him, he sees the silhouette of another, just entering the store.

AurorusVox: 6

Meanwhile, unaware of the plight of his friends, AurorusVox has come to the conclusion that Yahtzee is the best way to appease his attackers. Slipping back into a two-footed form, he promptly pulls out some dice and soon has them learning the rules and playing against him. After several intense rounds, AurorusVox wins by a landslide. This angers the grey beings, who start to scream at him and gesture wildly. Suddenly, devices are pulled out of pockets in their clothing - weapons, that is, from holsters.

AurorusVox, caught off guard, shifts back, preparing to charge. He doesn't make it that far.

AurorusVox has been perforated with projectiles and

is now dead

.

Meanwhile outside, the door to a pharmacy opens and a fit young woman walks carefully, sword drawn, up the street and towards the overturned truck. She circles the wreckage, checking the vehicle for any injured passengers. She looks up a moment later, hearing Riley's yowl, and notices the lynx sunning itself in the middle of the street in front of the gun shop. Sheathing her sword, she approaches the cat and, finding it tame, begins petting it.

Tragedy has joined the party. She is carrying a traditional Japanese katana.

Turn 57 Resolution

jmj3000: 3

"...look, I'll be right back, okay?" jmj3000 says to Riley. He turns to the open safe and starts pawing through it, looking for more birdshot. Ignoring the growling behind him, he eventually finds one loose box.

jmj3000 now has four boxes of birdshot, one with only six shells.

Zodiark13: 4

While Riley watches jmj3000 ignoring her to search the gun safe, Zodiark13 notices a litter box in the back room and starts hunting down some sort of chow for Riley. He soon succeeds: on a shelf he finds a plastic tub with "Kitty Kookies" written on the lid in permanent marker. He quickly returns to the outer room, where Riley is crouching to pounce on jmj3000, and distracts her with a few.

mb53: 1

mb53 sits panting in the middle of the shop, oblivious to all that surrounds him.

Tragedy: 3

Tragedy lays off petting the lynx when she hears the gunshot from inside. Fluidly drawing her sword, she dives through the gap in the door and rolls to her feet, blade at the ready to fire at whatever zombies are there.

CSL: 2

CSL crawls from behind the counter just in time to see Tragedy's dramatic entrance. After a moment, Tragedy speaks.

"Where are the zombies?"

"I don't know," CSL replied. "I just shot myself in the foot."

"Oh," Tragedy says. "Oh, hey, I have some bandages! I'll help!"

Tragedy has wrapped CSL's foot with bandages. Starting next turn, she will no longer be at -1 for actions involving standing.

animorpherv1: 2

Meanwhile, down the street, animorpherv1 stands tharn in the grocery store, alone, unarmed, and surrounded.

Suddenly, the zombie from the meat fridge reaches out and touches his shirt. He flinches away, taking a step backwards toward the front. A quick glance over his shoulder shows the other zombie is also within inches of arms-length.

Turn 58 Resolution

jmj3000: 1

jmj3000 does another sweep of the store, but fails to find the few remaining guns in the store. He gets ready to head outside again, but realizes he has misplaced his rifle and entire ammo supply.

mb53: 3 - 1 = 2

Oblivious to the frantic scavenging going on around him, mb53 decides to practice his gymnastics in case he ever meets a gymnast-survivor. He fails miserably, flopping backwards and falling to the ground. Fortunately, he lands on some empty cardboard boxes and fails to injure himself seriously.

Tragedy: 5

Tragedy uses her ninja skills to reach the top shelves of the store, the only ones with guns left on them. She finds a big, shiny, silver Desert Eagle in .50 as well as a gas-powered semi-auto shotgun. In addition, she finds 63 .50 rounds and 56 12-gauge buckshot shells.

Tragedy's Desert Eagle is loaded with 7 rounds and her shotgun is loaded with 8 buckshot shells. She carries an extra 56 handgun rounds and 48 buckshot shells.

CSL: 1

CSL eagerly follows Tragedy in the search for more firearms. However, Tragedy has taken the last available firearms. The rest are either disassembled or have already been taken.

animorpherv1: 3

animorpherv1 snaps out of his stupor, and snaps to one side, dodging around the first zombie and rushing to the back of the store. The mob at the meat locker react to his presence, but with a leap and a roll he gets clear of the lot at rushes up the aisle past the refrigerators, hangs a sharp turn at the front of the store, and zigs out through the door and back to the street. Glancing back, he can see the first zombie staggering out the door behind him.

Meanwhile, something unfortunate happens to Zodiark13. He neglects to give Riley a treat, and she gently paws him to get his attention. Unfortunately for Zodiark13, "gently" is relative, especially compared to a magical snow leopard. She knocks him aside into a wall, claws digging into his side. A large oaken cabinet falls onto him, promptly knocking him out. The smell of fresh blood permeates the air of the gun shop. Moans can be heard
from behind the store. Lots of them.

Turn 59 Resolution

jmj3000: 6

jmj3000 angrily storms around the shop, looking for his lost stuff. He stumbles upon it in a back room; a second later, a shadow casts across him. He turns around and sees a zombie standing right in front of him.

mb53: 5

mb53 very successfully stands around idly in the store, looking around.

Tragedy: 1

Tragedy climbs up on a shelf in the back room looking for something more of value - but, unfortunately for her, the shelf was not actually secured to the wall. She tries to jump clear, but isn't quite fast enough.

Tragedy has been caught under a shelf. She will need to spend a turn freeing herself before she can move.

CSL: 4

CSL finds the last assault rifle in the store. It is a disassembled M1 Garand in excellent condition. She quickly and expertly inserts the bolt, snaps the receiver shut, loads the rifle with a fresh clip (yes, clip), and charges a round. She also finds a handy bandolier with several loaded clips on it.

CSL is now carrying an M1 Garand loaded with 8 rounds, as well as a bandolier with five 8-round clips.

animorpherv1: 4

animorpherv1 hurries back down the street, letting the zombie fall further behind as he makes his way back to the gun shop. Hustling past the napping bobcat and ducking inside, he sees mb53 watching with approval as CSL finishes assembling and loading a rifle of some sort.

"Uh, guys?" he says, sheepishly. "I think one of the zombies from the grocery is coming this way."

In the meantime, Riley, noticing animorpherv1's absence, has rushed out into the streets to find him. After running a few blocks, she comes upon a lone figure hacking his way out of a mob of zombies with a kukri. Boldly, she wades in, slashing at two of the nearest and clearing a path free - which, after a brief hesitation, the man takes. It is only when they have retreated some distance from the remaining zombies that Riley realizes that the man she rescued is significantly more practical in dress, athletic in build, and inferior in musical talent than the one she was looking for.

You and Riley are in a semi-residential neighborhood - there are a number of houses about and a strip mall with a gardening shop at one end and a convenience store at the other. There's a park across from a post office down the street towards where Riley came from. The zombies you just escaped are in the parking lot of the strip mall, but there are a few others scattered about in line of sight.

The first zombie turns its head to the side, almost looking curiously at him. Unfazed, it continues forward. More follow behind it, cramming into the doorway.

mb53: 5

Hearing animorpherv1's report, mb53 leans back against the counter and unlimbers his Galil while the others go into the back.

mb53 will be replaced out if he does not respond this turn

Tragedy: 3

animorpherv1: 5

Tragedy slowly claws her way out from underneath the shelves. CSL and animorpherv1 attempt to help, but CSL pinches her fingers in the frame and drops her end. animorpherv1 strains against the shelves and pushes them aside. Tragedy stands up and dusts herself off, none the worse for wear.

CSL will be at -1 for anything involving manual dexterity next turn.

theamatuer jogs down the street to the gardening shop, avoiding any solitary zombies he encounters. Inside are rows and rows of shelves full of gardening supplies, ranging from seeds and fertilizer to rakes and shovels.

Turn 61 Resolution

jmj3000: 2

jmj3000 takes a quick step back and tries to work the pump action to clear the jam. Feeling it stick, he then whacks the side of the gun twice and pulls it again - whereupon the unfired buckshot shell flies free and the pump action sticks in the back. He spends another few seconds tugging before it finally seats the next shell.

At which point the first zombie is almost in his face, and two more are right behind.

jmj3000 is now carrying a shotgun loaded with two slugs and four birdshot shells. His bag has four boxes of birdshot, one with six instead of ten, and 45 rounds of 9mm cartridges. Holstered at his hip is a Beretta loaded with 15 rounds.

mb53: 5

mb53 grabs a sack from inside the counter and sets it on top to make a bench rest. He lays the barrel of the Galil on this and sights towards the door.

A moment later, a zombie staggers through.

A moment after that, five bullets lacerate its skull. It collapses like a marionette with its strings cut. But bloodier.

30 rounds remain in the box magazine of the Galil.

Tragedy: 1

Tragedy walks around the corner to see three zombies coming through the door with jmj3000 frantically struggling with his shotgun. Quickly and with a single fluid motion, she draws the Desert Eagle from its holster and fires it one-handed.

That is, fires a 300-grain hollowpoint bullet at 1,550 feet per second out of a 4.4 lb pistol ...

one-handed

The bullet goes flying through the ceiling as the recoil of one of the most powerful handguns in the world snaps back her wrist.

Tragedy is now carrying a Desert Eagle loaded with 6 bullets. She will be at -1 for anything requiring the use of her shooting hand next turn.

CSL: 3

CSL stands by idly, oblivious to the frantic action around her. Fortunately, no zombies are heading in her direction, distracted as they are by the more vivacious survivors.

animorpherv1: 2

animorpherv1 checks the store, but finds nothing except for a dull thumbtack. Deciding it would probably not penetrate a zombie skull, he tosses it aside in disgust.

theamatuer: 2

theamatuer carefully searches the gardening store. While there are bags of fertilizer among the rows and rows of seeds, watering cans, and potting soil, no sharp tools, gasoline, or guns are apparent. Most conspicuously-useful items seem to already have been taken.

He is just taking a final turn around the store when Riley yowls outside. When he steps through the door to look, he sees a mob of zombies shambling down the street in his direction.

jmj3000: 5

First, jmj3000's shotgun butt shoots up, catching the zombie on the chin. It staggers back a step - and another two, when the butt lashes again. The other two zombies have just circled to either side when jmj3000 has raised the gun back to his shoulder.

*BOOM!-chk-chk-BOOM!-chk-chk!-BOOM!*

As the bodies collapse to the ground, jmj3000 takes a quick look around. Then he reloads, quickly.

jmj3000 is now carrying a shotgun loaded with seven birdshot shells. His bag has four boxes of birdshot, one with two instead of ten.

Tragedy: 3

Holstering her Desert Eagle, Tragedy digs through her bag for medical supplies. She comes up with a roller bandage and wraps it tightly around her wrist and hand.

Tragedy's hand is mostly fixed, but care must be taken to avoid re-injury.

mb53: 5

CSL: 3

CSL hefts her rifle and walks through the front door of the shop. A glance up the street reveals several more zombies trailing animorpherv1 from the market. A second later, the first .30-06 bullet drives into the brain of the leader. The next three rounds, however, hit the next zombie in the stomach. It stumbles backwards momentarily, but recovers as the zombies behind it stagger forwards.

A moment later, a well-muscled arm grabs CSL by the shoulder and hurls her backwards into the shop. And, as CSL lands, she sees the zombie that had been coming from the other direction, and mb53, wrestling to keep it out.

CSL's current clip contains more 4 rounds.

animorpherv1: 4

animorpherv1, on the other hand, discovers that while the store has been pretty well picked over for

guns

, someone left behind a rather nice boombox with some hopping tracks. His distraction is near-complete.

theamatuer: 4

theamatuer grabs the nearest 20-lb bag of fertilizer and sprints out the door. He sees a flash of blue and hears a roar as Riley pounces towards the horde of zombies.

He turns away from the grisly scene and heads back towards the residential area of the city. He sees a house with boarded-up windows and walks up to the door. He tries to open it, but it is locked.

jmj3000 scours the shop yet again, this time for ammo. He finds a few loose 12-gauge shells in a corner, but nothing else.

jmj3000 has acquired 3 slugs.

Tragedy: 6

Tragedy exits through the back of the now-empty gun shop and strolls down the street, away from the zombie horde. She checks the stores along the way, but all are locked securely with metal roll-down fences. Down a side street, she sees some smaller stores with almost no security. She is walking up to the first store when she hears clanking sounds coming from the main street, as well as words in a strange language.

CSL: 6

CSL sees Tragedy walking down the street and follows her. Tragedy has just entered the side street when CSL sees movement down the street. She crouches behind a burned-out car, rifle at the ready. She tenses as she hears footsteps and machinery approaching.

animorpherv1: 6

animorpherv1, seeing CSL take her leave with mb53 still fighting outside, takes hold of the boombox and takes aim at the first zombie in the line. He winds up and hurls it at the first zombie's head with a strength he didn't realize he had. The heavy piece of plastic blasts straight through its skull ... and into mb53's.

A moment later, to animorpherv1's horror, the vanguard of the other zombies arrives.

mb53 is unconscious and being eaten by a zombie.

theamatuer: 1

theamatuer sets down his fertilizer and loudly raps on the door several times. Unsurprisingly, nobody answers. Deciding that this house is a dead end, he collects his fertilizer and turns...

...whereupon he sees that the zombies have caught up and are filling the space around the front porch on which he stands.

As CSL crouches behind the car, two lizardlike figures turn the corner into the street, with what are obviously weapons of some kind held at the ready and covering both directions. A moment later, a noisy, heavy machine walks out from behind them.

The first thing that springs to CSL's mind is "mecha". It resembles a scaled up robotic velociraptor, with two heavy legs, a counterbalancing tail ... and quite a lot of armaments. A targeting laser shines from atop its 'head', presumably to offer guidance to whatever missiles lie in the boxy racks attached to the torso. Smaller-bore launchers poke out from the forearms of the device, and large mechanical gripping claws take the place of hands.

The machine and its escorts (two leading, four trailing) stop in the intersection for several seconds. Then one points down the street towards where CSL is hiding, and the group turns and proceeds with military precision towards her.

Turn 64 Resolution

jmj3000: 4

Abandoning his efforts to stock up on ammunition, jmj3000 returns to the front room. Ignoring the sounds of combat outside, he climbs back up to the roof to take a look around - where he sees...

Tragedy: 5

CSL: 4

...first, the line of reptilian soldiers marching carefully down the street with their walking tank. As he hunkers down on the rooftop, he sees Tragedy ghosting out of the alley behind them when they pass by, and CSL crawling out from underneath a car to join her. He winces suddenly when Tragedy pumps the action of her shotgun, fearing that she will be heard ... until he realizes she timed it with the footfall of the tank.

As Tragedy passes the Desert Eagle to CSL, jmj3000 decides that situation is probably stable and creeps around to the front of the shop. From there, he sees...

... he sees that mb53 is apparently stable so far. Or, well,

As jmj3000 turns to crawl back to the trap door, he sees in a third direction...

theamatuer: 1

...two mobs of zombies, some distance away in a mostly-residential district. One seems to be feeding on something outside a strip mall, and as jmj3000 focuses on it, he can see numerous bodies slashed and torn.

"Oh,

Riley

", he sighs. "Valiant to the end."

The other, when he looks over at it, seems to be centered on the porch of a house, where a man clad in urban camouflage is ineffectively batting at zombies with a sack of some kind. As jmj3000 watches, two of the zombies take hold of the bag, forcing him to drop it as he kicks them back.

theamatuer has lost his bag of fertilizer. Zombies are swarming the porch from three directions.

Deadline has been extended by one week for what remains of the holidays.

Turn 65 Resolution

jmj3000: 4

jmj3000 carefully descends the ladder into the gun store, then ducks out through the back entrance and starts walking cautiously down the side streets to the main avenue. Ten minutes of walking brings him to the center of the downtown, from which he begins to see some sort of prefabricated fence blocking the street where the alien compound stretches out.

The structure is some distance away, but even from where he is jmj3000 can see that it is guarded, and that the guards are watching the street he is on.

Tragedy: 6

"Hey, check this out", Tragedy says to CSL. She slings the shotgun over her shoulder, draws her katana, and ghosts across the street toward a scattering of isolated zombies casting about on the sidewalk. One of them has just begun to turn towards her when she takes a quick, chopping swing and slices off its head. Two steps, and she neatly decapitates a second, before the first even hits the ground - and she's just taking out a third when...

CSL: 4

...a gunshot from CSL's Garand echoes off the storefronts. As Tragedy glances in the direction CSL was firing, she sees one of the lizards slumping to the ground, the weapon it had been aiming at Tragedy falling from its hand. The unit (and it's clear that it is a military unit of some kind) wheels about as CSL drops a second of their number, and both Tragedy and CSL are forced to dive into cover as weapons fire strafes the street.

CSL is now carrying an M1 Garand loaded with 6 bullets. Both Tragedy and CSL are taking small-arms fire from the aliens.

animorpherv1: 6

Taking advantage of a momentary gap in the assaults of the zombies, animorpherv1 spends a moment examining the Galil again. Finding a lever with three positions, he puts it in the middle and pulls the trigger again.

The gun sprays bullets, tearing three nearby zombies to pieces.

Then it clicks as the hammer falls on an empty chamber.

animorpherv1 is now carrying an unloaded IMI Galil.

theamatuer: 3

theamatuer leaps nimbly onto the head of the first zombie. He prepares to jump to the next when his feet come out from under him, slipping on the bloody skull of the zombie. He falls forward and rolls, managing to get away from the rest of the undead. He sets off at a run towards a large building in the distance, followed closely by several hungry zombies.

mb53: 2

mb53 grunts, pulls out a knife, and tries to cut out the poison from the zombie bite. His hands begin to shake and his vision begins to blur, however, and he soon drops the knife as he shudders...

zombification roll: 1 < 2.

...and turns.

mb53 is now a zombie.

Deadline has been extended by two days for what remains of the holidays.

Turn 66 Resolution

jmj3000: 2

jmj3000 looks around for a suitable distraction. He finds a nearby metal garbage can and rolls it down the street, where it crashes into a nearby building. He sees some of the guards turn around, weapons raised as they search for the sound. One of the guards seems to talk to his shoulder, as if he was wearing a radio. jmj3000 soon hears footsteps down the street. A tight block of aliens turns a corner and investigates the can. Finding nothing of interest, they begin walking down the street in the direction of jmj3000.

Tragedy: 5

CSL: 1

Meanwhile, a few streets over, Tragedy turns to CSL and says, "Cover me." CSL nods, and shoulders her Garand. She fires off the remaining six rounds in the magazine as Tragedy leaps from cover and sprints towards the aliens, flanking them. As CSL ducks behind cover and reloads, Tragedy quickly decapitates the remaining alien troopers, leaving only the strange tank-like walker. CSL then stands up, aims at the walker, and pulls the trigger.

The bullet makes a sharp

krak

as it ricochets off the armor, but does nothing more. However, the pilot of the walker notices her, and raises its left arm. CSL dives for cover as Tragedy tries to knock the weapon aside, but the walker seems unaffected, and a cataract of metal shards perforates the car CSL is hiding behind ... and several of the shards strike her.

CSL is now seriously wounded. She will be at a -2 next turn, and then a -1 every turn thereafter until the wound is fixed. Her bandolier now contains 5 clips, with 7 bullets in the magazine.

animorpherv1: 2

animorpherv1 flips the Galil around and goes to work with its buttplate. He smacks one zombie in the forehead. It stumbles back, but regains its balance and trudges forward again. More follow behind it, and animorpherv1 cannot do any damage with just the blunt force of the buttplate.

theamatuer: 1

theamatuer turns around, drawing two kunais as he continues to jog backwards. He flicks them towards the fertilizer, just as he trips over the sidewalk curb. He falls hard, bruising his ribs on the pavement.

He realizes a moment later that the kunais had no perceptible effect on the bag of fertilizer. Then he realizes he is surrounded by a dozen zombies intent on eating him.

Turn 67 Resolution

jmj3000: 6

jmj3000 sprints across the street into a side alley, narrowly avoiding the eyes of the aliens. He keeps walking down the alley and watches as the patrol moves past. Relieved, he turns around and exits the other side of the alley. He finds himself near the base of the gigantic structure, one of its legs towering above the nearest buildings. There are guards everywhere, although they do not seem to be on alert.

Tragedy: 2

CSL: 4-2 = 2

Tragedy grabs the downed CSL by the collar and starts to pull her down the street. CSL soon goes limp and becomes dead-weight. Tragedy is unable to pull her any further down the street, and stumbles to the ground less than a block away from the walker, which seems to be preparing for another shot.

animorpherv1: 1

animorpherv1 sings some lullaby in a high-pitched voice, reminiscent of a cat being fed through a wood chipper. The zombies seem to become even more interested in animorpherv1 and they grab him by the arms, mere seconds from tearing into his flesh with their teeth.

theamatuer: 6

theamatuer gets up and sprints down the street. Carefully watching the zombies, he fails to see a steel light-pole suddenly spring up in front of him. The side of his head collides with the pole, and he falls to the ground, dazed.

theamatuer will suffer a -1 penalty next turn due to disorientation and a splitting headache.

Meanwhile, back at the structure, jmj3000 notices movement off to the side. He turns to see a young girl crouching nearby in the shadows of a large, rundown building. She is studying him intently and raises her finger to her lips. jmj3000 nods and sneaks over towards her.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" the girl demands.

"I was more focused on escaping that patrol than seeing where I was going, thanks!" snarls jmj3000.

"Well, you have to be more careful. Follow me."

The girl disappears into the darkened building. jmj3000 glances back apprehensively at the structure, and ducks inside the door.

Mist7676 has joined the game.

Turn 68 Resolution

jmj3000: 6

Mist7676: 4

"C'mon," says Mist7676. "The staircase is back here."

"Not a problem," says jmj3000. He slings the shotgun over his shoulder and draws the pistol, glancing alertly in all directions as Mist7676 makes her way through the building and cautiously, carefully opens the fire door at the back stairs. As Mist7676 climbs the first flight of stairs, jmj3000 eases the door closed with one foot, pistol ready.

As the door closes, jmj3000 looks out the window. Where, about fifty feet away and up a hill, he sees another of the lizards, looking with an odd expression at the window where (jmj3000 glances) Mist7676 just turned the corner to the next flight.

The guard reaches for its weapon.

jmj3000 puts four bullets through its head.

And a sudden loud noise blares - from where, neither jmj3000 nor Mist7676 can tell. That the lizards are responding to it, however, they can tell.

jmj3000 has removed his 9mm Beretta from the hip holster, and it is now loaded with 11 rounds. Over his shoulder is a shotgun loaded with seven birdshot shells. His bag has four boxes of birdshot, one with two instead of ten, three slugs, and 45 rounds of 9mm cartridges.

Tragedy: 5

CSL: 6-1=5

Tragedy brings her hand back, preparing to slap CSL in the hopes of waking her up. Just before impact, CSL's eyes snap open and her hand grabs Tragedy's wrist.

"Move!" she shouts in a panicked voice.

The two roll off to the side of the street as a flash of light speeds past them. They hear a crash in the distance and the sound of breaking glass. With Tragedy's help, CSL pulls herself up and limps into the nearest building. The walker's heavy footsteps can be heard as it marches down the street, its head scanning for the survivors.

animorpherv1: 3

animorpherv1 presses back against the zombies with all his strength, driving them back a few steps. Taking advantage of the moment's leeway, he turns and thrusts himself into the gap that the lynx (half-forgotten in the struggle) had managed to hold and makes it in through the door of the gun shop with the cat right behind him.

The zombies quickly regain their balance and resume their pursuit.

theamatuer: 3-1=2

theamatuer attempts to stand up but his head is still swimming. He sees a few indistinct green shapes near him and tries to hobble away. He makes it just a few steps before tripping again and falling to his hands and knees.

Turn 69 Resolution

jmj3000: 1

Mist7676: 1

Mist7676 rudely slaps jmj3000 as the two try to find a hiding place. He yelps in pain and glares at the young girl before ducking into an open door. Too late he realizes the room has no other door, only windows with a three-story drop below. The lizards, having heard the yell, group up outside the building. Others turn the corner in an attempt to block all exits. Reinforcements seem to be on the way.

Tragedy: 5

CSL: 2

Grabbing medical items left and right, Tragedy sets to work on CSL's injuries. The metal shards come out and bandages go on as the morphine takes effect on CSL. Soon, she is no longer in pain and is able to stand with the help of Tragedy. One limping and one walking, they make their way to the back of the building. Outside, the walker passes close to the window, still scanning for the survivors. It misses them in the shadows of the store and continues down the street.

animorpherv1: 1

Simultaneously, animorpherv1 and the lynx try to make it outside the door to safety. Before they make it, a lone zombie steps inside the store, blocking their path. The duo is again surrounded.

theamatuer: 6

theamatuer takes a moment to clear his head, then rolls back onto his feet and starts running again. He weaves through a dozen neighborhoods, from the residential to the industrial to the commercial, before stopping next to a high wall and looking back.

There are no zombies in sight. There is, however, an almighty din, and, looking the other way, a number of apparently-startled lizardlike hominids.

Turn 70 Resolution

jmj3000: 3

Mist7676: 3

Mist7676 opens her mouth to scream at jmj3000, but he shushes her. He continues up the stairs with her trailing and cursing him

. As the sounds of doors being hammered open echo up the stairs, jmj3000 spots an open door on the fourth floor hallway and ducks through it.

The room on the other side seems to be a meeting room of some kind. With a window opening onto a fire escape. And looking out, jmj3000 doesn't see any aliens ... yet.

Tragedy: 1

CSL: 4-1 = 3

As the sounds of the walker's footsteps approach, CSL tenses. Her consciousness of the injury in her leg, Tragedy's breathing, and the crackle of a fire somewhere down the street all fade away as she concentrates on the

of the walker's strides.

It passes the doorway though which CSL and Tragedy fled and continues down the street. Its escort follows it.

Several seconds later, CSL exhales in relief. When she turns to look at Tragedy, she finds the latter has fallen into an exhausted slumber.

Tragedy is now asleep. The action she takes on the turn she awakens will be at -1.

animorpherv1: 5

Without breaking stride, animorpherv1 smashes the stock of the Galil into the face of the obstructing zombie. With the entire momentum of the charge behind it, the zombie's head explodes like a watermelon with an anvil dropped on it.

The lynx bowls over what was left of the zombie and dashes down the alleys. animorpherv1 follows.

The lynx and animorpherv1 are in an apparently-empty street and running.

theamatuer: 2

theamatuer freezes for a moment, staring at the lizards before him as they stare back.

Nonchalantly, he tries to slip back around the corner. They open fire.

Non

-nonchalantly, he runs for it.

theamatuer is fleeing from the aliens through a warren of strange buildings. He has no idea where he is, or anyone else for that matter.

Mist7676 tiptoes out onto the fire escape. There are no aliens in sight, so Mist7676 starts to make her way down into the alley below. jmj3000 stands idly at the top of the metal staircase, oblivious. Mist7676 makes it down to the alley and crouches in a corner, wondering what to do next.

Tragedy: 3-1 = 2

CSL: 3

CSL shakes Tragedy into consciousness. Tragedy wakes up groggily with a massive headache but is otherwise none the worse for wear.

Meanwhile, the walker has turned around and is making a second sweep of the area. It is moments from rediscovering the duo.

animorpherv1: 2

animorpherv1 and the lynx sprint down the alley, trying to outdistance the mob behind them. Up ahead, a gray shadow crosses the entrance of the alley. animorpherv1 makes it just a few more steps before laser bolts erupt from the street beyond. He rolls and takes cover behind a dumpster. The lynx leaps to his side with a snarl.

theamatuer: 4

theamatuer jumps behind the next corner and then into a doorway, pulling out a pair of kunais. He flicks them at the aliens as they round the corner. Two fall with the steel edges buried in their chests. theamatuer ducks into the buliding as the three remaining aliens spray the doorway with lasers. They cautiously approach the doorway as theamateur makes his way deeper into the dark building.

jmj3000 has been shot. He will be at -1 until he is patched. He is also completely exposed to enemy fire.

Below, Mist7676 cowers under the fire escape and sees animorpherv1 (accompanied by the lynx) looking into the sky with an alert expression. Before she can move towards him, a troop of the aliens turns the corner, interposing itself between her and animorphver1, and sees her.

CSL: 5

Once again, Tragedy hangs limply as CSL drags her deeper into the building. She turns over a desk and hides Tragedy behind it before moving to a doorway to watch the walker, which has entered the outside door. It turns on a large light on one of its arms and begins to sweep the room.

animorpherv1 hears a loud whirring overhead and looks up to see a large ship in the sky. He follows its path and sees a large metal structure in the distance. Before he can proceed to follow it, however, he sees a troop of aliens come out into the street in front of where he would have to go.

theamatuer heads deeper into the building, but soon comes to a dead end. Behind him, the three remaining aliens cautiously enter the building and look around the area, weapons ready.

Mist7676: 6

Thinking fast, jmj3000 pretends to crumple and fall -- bringing his shotgun to bear.

*BOOM!* *chk-chk!* *BOOM!*

Two aliens fall to the floor, mortally wounded by birdshot. jmj3000 continues to fire as he scoots across the landing of the fire escape to the stairs. When he is out of shells, he shifts the empty shotgun to his off hand, rolls to his feet, pulls out his Beretta, and sprints down the stairs.

jmj3000 is carrying an empty shotgun, a Beretta loaded with 11 rounds, and a shoulder bag containing four boxes of birdshot, one with two instead of ten, three slugs, and 45 rounds of 9mm cartridges.

As he is doing this, Mist7676, on the ground, reaches into a shoulder holster and pulls out an old Browning Hi-Power pistol. She thumbs the safety and starts sweeping from left to right, firing two shots at the center of mass of each of the alien soldiers, taking down six before the rest retreat back down the street. jmj3000 reaches the bottom of the fire escape just in time to see her run around the corner and out of sight.

"Miiiiist!" screams jmj3000. He throws the shotgun on its strap over his shoulder and sprints to the corner, pistol at the ready. Peering around, he sees Mist7676 taking cover in a doorway, bullet whizzing by. Looking further up the street, he sees a large mecha-type machine moving towards him, its chain guns roaring.

Mist7676 is now carrying a Browning 9mm automatic with one bullet in the chamber. She has a second 13-round magazine, fully loaded, in her coat pocket.

Tragedy: 1

CSL: 5

CSL and Tragedy lie down in the rubble and remain still as the mecha walks by. It scans the area with its light-cannon but does not see the pair of survivors. It enters another doorway and makes its way deeper into the building, and its heavy footsteps quickly fade to silence.

animorpherv1: 5

Seeing Mist7676 pulling out a gun, animorpherv1 and the lynx dive out of the line of fire and rush through the nearest building. Pausing at another doorway on the other side, animorpherv1 checks the street in both directions and slings the empty Galil over his shoulder as he creeps out.

After a couple minutes of walking with the lynx at his side, animorpherv1 sees a large metal tower forming one corner of the alien structure. The ship he saw earlier seems to be docking at the top. There are a few alien guards in front of the tower apparently protecting a large entrance. One of them appears to operate a radio of sorts and motions to the rest. They heft their weapons and move out, leaving just two left to guard the door.

theamatuer: 3

theamatuer quickly backtracks and finds another room. He takes a shoelace and sets it as a tripwire across the doorway before heading towards a staircase of sorts. He pauses at the top, waiting to see if his trap is effective. A satisfying

crunch

is hurt from below as an alien trips and smashes its face into the floor. Its comrades help it to its feet and continue into the building.

Bearing in mind that theplague42 has veto rights in case any of this doesn't match his conception of the scene:

You, jmj3000, are in the opening of an alley between two office buildings. Both ends of the alley open onto streets; you are currently sheltered from the mecha behind the concrete pillar that forms the corner of the building you just left. Mist7676 is across the street in the entrance of another office tower - including the sidewalks, the width of the street is around eighty feet, and she's about forty feet closer to the mecha than you are.

During the second or so that you were around the corner, you spotted several of the lizardlike aliens, all running for cover.

The mecha is similar to the one from Turn 63, except without the targeting laser and with cases for extra bullets rather than missiles - it is probably only armed with the chain guns.

jmj3000 turns around and sprints out the opposite end of the alley from the battle, intent on investigating the large metal tower animorpherv1 was near. However, as he turns a corner between office towers he encounters a small patrol of alien troopers (the ones animorpherv1 saw leave earlier). They see him and fire on him. He blindly fires back as he retreats around the corner, his bullets whizzing several feet over the heads of the aliens, and theirs ricocheting off the brick facade.

jmj3000 is now carrying an empty 12-gauge shotgun, an empty Beretta, and a shoulder bag with four boxes of birdshot (one with two left instead of ten), three slugs, and 45 rounds of 9mm cartridges.

Mist7676: 2

On the adjacent street, Mist7676 is switching tactics. She enters the doorway, hoping to flank the machine by moving through the building without being spotted. However, as she follows the hallway paralleling the street inside the building, she finds her path blocked by a collapsed roof. Outside, the mecha advances, passing the bodies of its comrades. It has ceased firing and is now scanning the buildings, looking for signs of movement.

CSL: 3

CSL picks up her still-limp friend and moves towards the entrance of the building. She makes it through the front doorway before falling to her knees in exhaustion. Tragedy slips out of her hands and hits the ground with an audible

*thump!*

. Behind her, CSL hears a pause in the footsteps and some gentle whirring. The footsteps start again, more frequent this time, and growing louder.

animorpherv1: 2

animorpherv1 grabs a nearby can and tosses it across the street, hoping to distract the guards. They hear the can clatter on the pavement and raise their weapons, scanning for the source of the noise. The lynx growls menacingly at the creatures, its fur rising on its back. animorpherv1 attempts to silence it, but it is too late. The aliens hear the growl and immediately see the duo. Laser bolts erupt out of their weapons and miss animorpherv1 by inches, causing eruptions of hot shrapnel from the wall behind him.

theamatuer: 4

As he quickly climbs the stairs, theamatuer can hear the heavy bootsteps of the troopers below, one pair somewhat out of sync due to their owner's injury. He makes it to the second floor (also the top floor) and enters the hallway. Ahead of him is a long line of doorways, possibly apartments.

jmj3000: 2-1=1

jmj3000 sets down his shotgun and fumbles with the 9mm ammo box. He has just loaded two rounds into the Beretta's empty magazine when an alien bullet tears apart the corner of the box, scattering the contents in all directions. jmj3000 quickly dives behind a large blue mailbox, bringing his semi-loaded pistol to bear.

Taking advantage of the ceasefire, the alien troops move forward, reloading their own weapons.

jmj3000 is holding a Beretta loaded with two rounds and a shoulder bag with four boxes of birdshot (one with two instead of ten) and three slugs. His shotgun is lying in the street, as are 43 9mm cartridges, of which 38 are intact.

Tragedy: 3

CSL: 1

CSL attempts to move Tragedy out into the street, but fatigue has finally taken its toll. She can barely drag Tragedy, much less pick her up. Behind them, the mecha enters the room. It's light-cannon tracks upward and illuminates the pair. CSL dives outside as the mecha's chaingun fills the air with lead. She falls to the pavement and flattens herself against the street, her only hope for avoiding the mecha.

After a few seconds that last an eternity, the chaingun whirs to a stop. CSL looks back, expecting the worst. The doorframe and surrounding wall have been torn to shreds, and CSL can clearly see to the back of the room. The mecha's smoking chaingun reveals the reason for its ceasefire. Heat distortion waves rise above it into the air and the ends of its barrels are red-hot. Tragedy is lying motionless next to the door in a pool of blood.

CSL feels a twinge of pain and looks down. She sees blood and realizes in horror that several bullets have pierced her left leg. Adrenaline has kept the pain away for now, but she can feel it clawing its way up her leg.

Tragedy has perished. CSL will be at -1 until her wound is treated.

animorpherv1: 1

animorpherv1 shouts to the lynx and takes off, sprinting down the street. He can feel the gouts of superheated air as shots from the lasers pass near him and see their impacts on the sides of buildings. One finally tags his ankle and he falls to the ground, blinded by pain. Behind him, he hears the lynx yelp loudly and then whimper. It limps towards him and falls to the street just a few feet away.

animorpherv1 will be at -1 until his wound is treated.

theamatuer: 3

theamatuer tries the first door and finds it locked. The second one is blissfully open and he enters the apartment, closing the door behind him and bracing a chair against it.

Checking the drawers in the kitchen, he finds some steak knifes, but nothing else. Exploring the remainder of the apartment might yield better results.

Mist7676: 6

In a flurry of activity, Mist7676 ejects and pockets the empty magazine, slams the fresh one home, and charges. Her shrieks of fury and wild firing catch the mecha off-guard; while her shots do little damage, she manages to make it to the mecha's feet before it can track her. The area directly below it seems to be a safe spot, as neither its head nor gun can point directly downward.

Mist7676 is now playing don't-get-stepped-on under the mecha. She is carrying a Browning with 9 rounds, and has an empty 13-round magazine in her pocket.

Turn 76 Resolution

jmj3000: 2-1=1

jmj3000 takes a couple fast breaths, and dives out of cover to try to reach the shotgun. He makes it about halfway there before his injured leg gives out on him and he tumbles to the ground.

Conveniently, this unexpected change of velocity means the aliens' fire misses him. Inconveniently, the aliens' fire hits the shotgun, shattering the stock and sending the remnants skittering away down the street.

jmj3000 is lying in the middle of the street with the Beretta (containing two rounds) and a bag full of now-pretty-much-useless shotgun shells.

CSL: 3-1=2

As she tries to flee, CSL discovers her leg won't support her weight. As she scrambles down the street on her belly, she hears the mecha stomp out of the building and, a moment later, sees the green dot of the targeting laser appear in front of her and skip across the sidewalk onto her.

animorpherv1: 1-1=0

As the hum of the aliens' lasers recharging fills the silence, animorpherv1 tries to sit up so he can reach his wound. He manages to just roll over, but bumps the cauterized husk of his heel against the ground and screams out in pain.

His scream is interrupted by the second round of fire.

animorpherv1 has perished.

theamatuer: 6

theamatuer departs the kitchen and turns down the hallway. As he glances in the doorways along the hall (one leading to an office, the opposite to the bathroom), he hears quiet sounds of movement in the room at the end of the hall. Treading carefully, he sneaks up to the door and opens it a crack...

...where he sees a young man and woman looking back at him, obviously interrupted in the middle of a game of chess.

JDGA and Katty Bard have joined the game.

Mist7676: 4

Dodging between the mecha's legs, Mist7676 spots a hand-hold near the base of the machine's tail. She leaps up and grabs it, then pulls herself onto the machine's back. Bracing with both legs and one hand against the bucking of the mecha beneath her, she grabs a handle and opens a hatch on the back of the machine ... where she discovers the cramped compartment in which the alien is currently controlling the machine.

jmj3000: 5-1=4

jmj3000 lies quietly and slows his breathing. The aliens see his motionless body and move forward cautiously. They kick his gun away from him and examine him. One of them barks an order and two others pick up jmj3000 by his arms and start to drag him down the street. jmj3000 carefully cracks open an eye and looks ahead. He sees a large metal door at the foot of a tower that reaches up along with several others to a structure over the roofs of even the tallest buildings in the city. The lead aliens motions to the guards and the door opens. jmj3000 is taken inside to a wide, bare room with a single door at one end. Seconds later, the aliens enter the doorway which leads to an elevator of sorts.

CSL: 1-1=0

CSL begins to shuffle away as quickly as she can, but pain shoots through her injured leg and she spasms and cries out.

The mecha pilot pauses and turns off the targeting laser. It instead raises one arm to aim with one of its guns, and a moment later a spray of bullets perforates CSL's body.

CSL has died.

Introductions out of the way, the newly-formed trio begins to scour the apartment for weapons before the aliens arrive. Katty Bard manages to find a large Bowie knife with a matching scabbard. theamatuer continues to search the kitchen and finds another small knife but nothing else. A couple rooms over, JDGA is combing through a closet when several large boxes fall off of a shelf and knock him to the ground. He is not seriously hurt but yelps in pain nonetheless. Katty Bard and theamatuer run to the room to see what's wrong, heedless of what is going on outside the apartment.

In the hallway, the three aliens hear JDGA's cry of pain and stack up on the doorway, readying for an assault on the apartment.

Mist7676: 1

Mist7676 reaches for her pistol, intending to shoot the alien in the back. She accidentally fumbles it; the gun falls to the pavement and goes off, the bullet grazing her leg. The injury is not serious, but the alien (apparently hearing the gun's report) starts to move the machine wildly, trying to find the source of the noise.

jmj3000: 5-1 = 4

After a short time, jmj3000 feels the elevator stop and the movement of air as the doors open. As he is carried, he catches glimpses of blueish hallways with large ducts at the ceiling and drains in the floor before he is carried through an airlock-like chamber into a frigid room. The commander says something to his troops, then presses a button which opens a two-foot-square panel on the stainless steel wall, from which a seven-foot-long slab slides out. The grunts place jmj3000's body on the slab, which is then retracted when the commander pushes a second button. As it locks back in place, the panel closes.

A moment later, jmj3000 can hear the aliens leaving the room. Shortly after, the lights turn out.

theamatuer: 4

JDGA: 2

Katty Bard: 6

theamatuer fashions a simple tripwire from a pair of shoelaces, placing it across the doorway. Improvising, he grabs several cups from the kitchen and wedges pairs of knifes business end up in each of them. After placing them about a meter behind the tripwire, he stands back to admire his urban Punji sticks. He then retreats to the kitchen, using a small mirror to watch the front door from around the corner.

JDGA carefully extricates himself from the pile of boxes and combs the rest of the closet. He finds nothing but some old clothing.

Katty Bard checks the exterior windows of the apartment, trying to find another way out. She finds an old fire escape outside. Grabbing a chair, she breaks the glass and climbs out onto the metal staircase. Katty Bard barely takes a step before the rusted bolts give way, and the staircase separates from the wall and tumbles to the ground. She manages to grab onto the windowsill, but there are no footholds for her feet on the smooth brick wall.

Back in the apartment hallway, the first alien barges through the unlocked door with the other two in tow. Its leading foot catches on the tripwire, and it falls forward onto the steak knives. Several pierce through its clothing and skin, puncturing its internal organs. It bleeds out within seconds, letting its rifle fall to the ground. The other two scream in dismay and begin raking the apartment with un-aimed fire. theamatuer lies low in the kitchen, safe from the frenzied shooting. JDGA and Katty Bard, down the hall, are unaffected.

Mist7676: 4

Mist7676 tumbles off the bucking mecha for her pistol and picks it up. Above her, the mecha continues to spin, its back hatch flapping wildly. She rolls across the ground away from it, sits up on one knee, and takes careful aim. Her first two shots glance harmlessly off the back of the machine. The third strikes the alien in the left shoulder; the mecha spasms, the left arm dangling loosely and the tail thrashing. Mist7676 takes advantage of its plight to stand, preparing to take more shots at the alien.

Mist7676's Browning now has 6 rounds left.

Once again, theplague42 has the right to veto, but what I was imagining was a pretty small apartment (based pretty much directly on a friend's): front door opens to the living room/dining room, there's a kitchen to the left at the far wall, nearer the door is a hallway leading to a room on the left (the office), a room on the right (the bathroom), and a room at the end (the bedroom). And Katty Bard jumped out the bedroom window.

jmj3000: 4-1 = 3

jmj3000 pushes down with his feet in an attempt to open the panel. It rocks back and forth a bit, but it will not open. He braces himself, raises both legs, and double-kicks the panel sharply. A metallic snap echoes throughout the room as the panel pops open. jmj3000 slides out of the space into the room. Around him he sees more panels with buttons beside them. He looks around the only door in the room for a handle or keypad, but finds nothing. When he steps directly in front of it, he feels the floor shift slightly, and the doors quietly slide open. He steps outside as the doors close behind him.

He finds himself walking for some distance down the hallway before he reaches another door. Again, as he stands before it, he feels the floor shift and sees the doors open. Inside, he finds rows of surprisingly-large pens, containing a wide variety of terrestrial lifeforms, some living, some dead, sorted roughly in size order.

Toward the "large" end of the room, he finds the human pen.

"Hey!" yells one of the inhabitants, a giant, powerfully-built man. Another, who had been hunched over a body on the ground, leaps to his feet, and the pair of them bang on the door as jmj3000 runs over.

"How do I open it?" jmj3000 yells.

"Left," says the smaller man. "A meter off the ground, there's a square panel that slides horizontally away from the door."

A moment later, the door opens.

"Yeah," the small man continues as he walks out, "it's the same kind of door opener as they have in my dimension."

jmj3000 blinks, and glances at the giant, who is just bending over to get through the door.

"It's not worth arguing about," the giant says. "AcRv's okay - he saved my life. And speaking of names, I'm izakthegoomba. You?"

"jmj3000."

"A pleasure. Now, did you manage to sneak in any weapons?"

"Oh, yeah", jmj3000 says. "They thought I was dead, so they didn't strip me. I'm almost out of bullets, though."

"Well, they got my rifle and my regular sidearm, but they missed my James Bond special, here," says izakthegoomba, pulling out a Walther PPK briefly, "so I've got six shots unless you have some .380 ACP...? No? All right, then. Let's deal."

izakthegoomba and AcRv have joined the game.

theamatuer: 6

The aliens stop firing after a moment. After some chirping and growling at each other, they edge into the room, one turning to cover the hallway while the other continues towards the kitchen.

theamatuer, seeing the opportunity to fight them separately, sweeps quickly around the corner and darts up with one of the remaining steak knives, catching the nearer alien in the neck. As it gurgles and the other attempts to sweep its gun around to catch him, theamatuer evades the falling body and dives in, slicing the throat of the other as well, and casually catching its weapon as it collapses.

Examining it, theamatuer determines the likely location of the trigger, safety, magazine, and magazine release; he then attempts to test-fire it.

Whereupon he discovers its anti-theft mode.

theamatuer is twitching on the ground from a major electrical shock. He will be at -1 next turn.

JDGA: 6

Katty Bard: 4

Hearing the fire escape collapse under Katty Bard, JDGA rushes over to the window to help. Grabbing her by the arm, he manages to help her get her head through the window - thereby allowing her to use

him

as another handhold.

"Ow, Katty, you're squi-ishing me against

the windowsill, I can't breathe...

"

After scrambling through, Katty Bard turns around and helps JDGA back inside, where he collapses against the wall.

JDGA will be at -1 next round for lack of breath.

Mist7676: 2

Mist7676 continues firing at the alien but its erratic motions make it difficult for her to score a hit. A couple of her shells glance off the open door but the alien suffers no more injuries. The mecha continues to thrash around, its left arm dangling awkwardly.

Mist7676's Browning is now empty.

AcRv helps jmj3000 sit down as izakthegoomba heads out to watch the door, weapon at the ready. AcRv peels back the bottom of jmj3000's pants, searching for the source of the bleeding. He finds a bullet hole in jmj3000's right calf.

"Ok, it looks like the bullet passed clean through, which is good. That you've been running around on this leg is not so good. Let me see if I can find a bandage. Hold your hand here."

jmj3000 grunts in pain as he applies pressure to his wound. AcRv scans the room, but sees nothing that may work as a bandage. Instead, he tears jmj3000's pants leg at the knee and wraps it tightly around the bullet hole before sneaking over to izakthegoomba.

"It doesn't look too bad, but he won't be running sprints on it anytime soon. How's the hallway looking?"

"Nothing yet. How soon can you move him?"

"Right now, if we need..." AcRv begins to say, when a shot rings out.

Inside

the room.

jmj3000 is hiding inside the cage from an alien who had just approached from the opposite direction. He has one bullet remaining in his Beretta. He continues to be at -1 for all actions.

With the current alien threat gone, JDGA and Katty Bard continue to search for useful supplies in the apartment. In the closet in the office, JDGA finds a long gun case but is unable to open the lock. He drags it into the main hallway and goes to find a hammer to break it open. He comes back to find Katty Bard smacking a 30-round magazine into an AR-15. "Hey, that was mine," he starts to protest.

Katty Bard flashes a grin at him. "Finders-keeper! The key was lying right next to it, silly! How do I look?" She dons a bandolier filled with five extra magazines.

In the next room, theamatuer attempts to move but his muscles are still contracted from the electrical shock. Fortunately, the effect will soon fade with no long-term effects.

Katty Bard is now carrying an AR-15 with a loaded 30-round magazine and five other 30-round magazines on a bandolier.

Mist7676: 6

Figuring a gun is next to useless when empty, Mist7676 pockets her pistol and runs away from the mecha. She turns onto the next street, looking for any places of interest. Instead, she finds a large alien patrol marching down the street with weapons raised, presumably going to the aid of the injured mecha-driver. The alien on point notices her and, raising his weapon, fires several shots at her. They sail above her head as she dives behind a metal lamp-post. The lead alien motions to the others, who spread out across the street and take cover where they can.

As jmj3000 is crouching just to one side of the open door of the cage, clenching his teeth with pain and hoping the clear panel wall of the chamber was bulletproof, he sees AcRv come around the corner holding what looked like a black Wiimote in his hand. Glancing the other way, he sees the alien holding its weapon one-handed and chittering.

"I am now unarmed," jmj3000 hears AcRv say. Looking back, jmj3000 sees the Wiimote on the ground, and AcRv rising with his hands in the air. "We surrender. Take us--"

AcRv jerks as the alien fires. Then he falls.

AcRv has been shot. He will be at -1 until the turn after his wounds are treated.

jmj3000 tries to rise, to run at the alien when it approaches, but his head begins to swim and he falls. He watches helplessly as the alien begins to approach, as izakthegoomba rushes through its startled and inaccurate fire and starts pounding it to death, as two other aliens turn the corner, screeching and raising their weapons ... and as his vision wavers and fails.

jmj3000 is now unconscious. He will be unable to perform any other action until he regains consciousness.

JDGA: 2

Meanwhile, in the apartment, JDGA throws up his hands in frustration and stomps past the recovering theamatuer to the dining table, where he sits with his hands on his temples.

"What on earth are you doing?" theamatuer asks.

"Well, since clearly I'm unable to

find

a weapon to fight these monsters with, I figured I'd use my head," JDGA says. "So: I'm developing psychic powers."

"Like that?"

"Sure, like this! How would

you

suggest?"

"Well, it's not something I studied myself," theamatuer says, "but from what my colleagues have said, psychic powers usually require some kind of trigger to activate. Here, sit on your hands for a moment."

JDGA looks oddly at theamatuer, but complies. "Now what?" he says.

"Catch," says theamatuer, and he throws a steak knife at JDGA's forehead.

The steak knife stops in midair, an inch away, and drops to the table.

"Well done," theamatuer responds.

JDGA has developed telekinetic powers.

In the meantime, Katty Bard heads out into the hallway of the apartment complex looking for roof access. Walking all up and down the hallway, she finds the ceiling without hatches and the doors all locked. Including back into the apartment.

Katty Bard is locked in the hallway. She is still wearing the AR-15 and ammo bandolier.

Checking her pockets, Mist7676 pulls out a small LED flashlight and turns it on. Hoping against hope that it will work like an improvised flashbang, she tosses it one direction and, an instant later, rushes the other towards the door of the nearest building.

She just makes the doorway before a hailstorm of alien fire punches holes in the building facade around her. The glass of the door shatters as she pulls it open and dives through.

Mist7676 is standing in the front lobby of a post office. Mailboxes line two of the three interior walls, with writing surfaces and a postage machine against the exterior wall. The fourth wall leads to the room with the (presently unmanned) service counter. She did not enter the building unseen.

Realizing jmj3000's plight, he makes a snap decision, and heaves jmj3000 over his shoulder and pulls out the Walther. Firing wildly, he flees toward the exit.

izakthegoomba's Walther is now empty.

As izakthegoomba passes, AcRv grabs the Wiimote, jumps to his feet, and follows him. A minute later, they reach the main hallway, where izakthegoomba sets jmj3000 down. As he spends a moment retrieving jmj3000's Beretta, AcRv checks jmj3000's condition.

"He's not breathing," AcRv says.

jmj3000 will die next turn if not resuscitated.

theamatuer walks over to the door and opens it a hair, then closes it.

"It's already unlocked," he says, turning back to JDGA.

JDGA raises his eyebrow, then squints, concentrating. Whereupon theamatuer hears a rattle behind him, then a click as the lock on the doorhandle turns.

"It wasn't," JDGA says. "It just always opens from the inside."

Katty Bard: 5

Attempt to stay as hidden as possible. [Anywhere in the

Katty Bard takes a breath, then releases it. Walking carefully, she enters the stairwell and silently descends to the first floor, watching for any aliens or zombies in the vicinity. As she nears the bottom of the stairs, she notices a maintenance panel sitting ajar, and checks inside.

Katty Bard is hidden in an air duct on the first floor. She has a clear view of the lobby through the air return grille.

Mist7676: 3

Run into the next room.

Mist7676 takes a glance at the obviously-too-small-to-hide-in post office boxes before deciding to take her chances in the other part of the building. Unfortunately, the door leads to the beginning of a winding path for the post office queue, and she is delayed as she jumps over the display cases to get to the front of the room. Shots ring out from the post office entrance as she dives over the service counter.

Mist7676 is behind the service counter in the post office. A door leads to the main parcel-handling area.

use the machine gun app to make the aliens think we're armed and hopefully keep them back long enough to let Izak CPR.

izakthegoomba runs over to his new friend and checks his breathing again. Hearing nothing, he starts performing CPR, singing quietly under his breath. He continues for a couple minutes before giving rescue breaths and checking jmj3000. There's still a pulse but no breathing. izakthegoomba continues his work.

Down the hallway, AcRv fires up his machine gun app and blasts imaginary bullets at full volume. The aliens realize the ruse instantly and rush down the hall, firing at the trio.

JDGA: 6

Check out the alien cadavers.

JDGA searches the dead aliens, hoping to find something useful. In the first one's pockets he finds some strange gadgets with no apparent function and tosses them aside. He also finds some food-like substances whose smell makes him retch. The second one has much of the same, but JDGA also finds a small device with a screen on it. He flips what appears to be on the power switch and the device whirrs to life. He sees a map of the city with a bunch of different colored dots moving through streets and buildings. A large, flashing red dot seems to be the current location of the device. There are also several flashing dots of other colors clustered around a dark area that seems similar to the large metal structure a couple blocks over.

Suddenly, the device begins to screech horribly. jmj3000 tries to turn it off but the switch does nothing. On the screen, he sees several groups of dots switch direction towards the flashing red dot.

theamatuer: 4

head down to the first floor.

Katty Bard: 4

Stake out air duct, waiting for zombie activity.

theamatuer carefully enters the hallway, opens the door to the stairwall, and starts down the stairs. He is about to exit the stairwell when he hears several boots stepping quickly outside the door. He backs up a half-flight of stairs and watches the door. It bangs open and three aliens enter. One sees theamatuer and motions to the others. As they raise their weapons to fire, semi-automatic fire erupts from their right. Several bullets strike each of them and they all fall to the ground. theamatuer descends the stairs again to find Katty Bard stepping out of an air vent underneath the stairwell, a triumphant grin on her face.

Katty Bard's current magazine now has 15 rounds remaining. She has five other 30-round magazines on her bandolier.

Slide down a shute [sic] and complain at the boring ride.

Mist7676 jumps up onto the counter and prepares to slide down the mail chute. She slides in feet first and lets go. She makes it about five feet before coming to an abrupt halt. She wiggles around some but is completely stuck inside a bend in the chute.

Grab the Baretta and continue with the CPR.

izakthegoomba takes the pistol out of his pocket and continues CPR on his wounded friend. After a couple more minutes of furious pumping and breathing, jmj3000 starts to breath on his own. izakthegoomba rolls him onto his side before sliding to the ground in exhaustion. jmj3000 is able to sit up on his own as he recovers from his near-death experience.

izakthegoomba is -1 for any action taken next turn from being out of breath.

AcRv: 6

Pull out my deoderant and lighter and spray fire so the aliens will run around the corner straight into it.

Several feet away, AcRv is attempting to toast aliens with a can of spray deodorant and a lighter. The flames envelop the aliens in a fiery spray. They drop their guns and run around the hallway wildly, screeching in pain. As one's gun falls to the ground, its trigger finger catches and the gun fires. The bullet ricochets off two walls before entering AcRv's left bicep, tearing through muscle and blood vessels, and exiting without touching bone. His arm limply falls to his side and the lighter falls to the floor. Adrenaline keeps the pain away, but AcRv can feel it scratching at the edge of his consciousness.

AcRv is at -1 for his injury until it is bandaged.

JDGA: 3

JDGA focuses all of his mental strength on disabling the speaker. By cutting a key wire, he finally silences the noise and checks the screen again. The colored dots are still moving towards the red dot in the center, and they have begun to move into units.

theamatuer: 6

Search and destroy any remaining aliens near apartment complex.

Katty Bard smashes the nearest doorknob with the butt of her gun and kicks the door open. She carefully walks outside with theamatuer in tow, both ready for action. Katty Bard sees two aliens near the corner of the building and fires. Several bullets strike each of the aliens and they fall to the ground, dead. She ejects the empty magazine, inserts a fresh one, and charges the rifle. theamatuer sees a lone alien walking down the side of the building and attacks. He pounces onto the aliens back and cleanly breaks its neck. He grabs a strange combat knife from its belt before catching up to Katty Bard,

still circling the building.

"Having fun?" Katty Bard whispers.

"Indeed," replies theamatuer, as the pair of them turn another corner and spot a lone alien standing next to a large machine that looks like a cross between an APC and a centipede, doing something with some small electronic device. "Here, let me test this."

"Go ahead."

As Katty Bard watches, theamatuer silently runs up behind the alien and drives the knife into the alien's neck. The creature drops, taking the knife with it. Seeing the alien fall, she approaches while theamatuer pulls the knife back out.

"Wow - this is actually a pretty poor knife," theamatuer says.

"What's that gizmo?" Katty Bard asks, pointing at the device.

"It looks like it has a map o--" theamatuer begins to say, when a burst of alien fire intrudes.

The alien troop shown on the map is arriving. Katty Bard and theamatuer are standing in the open street, on the opposite side of the vehicle from the building.

Mist7676 is fruitlessly squirming around in the mail duct when suddenly a shadow falls over her. She looks up as two alien soldiers reach in and grab her arms - a moment later, they have hauled her out and are holding her up as a third goes through her pockets.

If AcRv is capable of bandaging himself in his current condition, Take over burning the aliens. Otherwise, Help bandage him.

take out my left shoelace and tie it to one end of my tie, wrap it round the wound so the thickest part of the tie is covering the wound, and then tighten it by tying the other end of the shoelace to the other end of the tie.

As jmj3000 lies limply on the ground, still recovering from near-death. AcRv begins bandaging his arm with his shoelace and tie. izakthegoomba sees him struggling to finish the knot one-handed and runs over to help. He trips over jmj3000's leg and barrels into AcRv, knocking him to the ground of the hallway in full view of the aliens.

theamatuer: 2

investigate map somewhere safe.

theamatuer runs away from the main alien unit and turns into a nearby alleyway. He checks all of the doors, but they are all locked. A tall metal fence blocks off the end of the alley. Behind him, theamatuer can hear alien troopers approaching quickly.

JDGA: 2

Run and hide.

JDGA exits the apartment and opens the door to the nearest stairwell. He is about halfway to the ground floor when he hears the crash of a door being kicked in, followed by bootsteps and chittering.

Several aliens from the main troop have entered the apartment building, with more behind them.

Katty Bard: 6

Look for a less-open space from which to kill alien troop.

Katty Bard sprints to the nearest doorway and goes inside. She climbs the nearest stairway and finds herself on a first-floor balcony overlooking the alien troopers, who are now pursuing theamatuer. She lays her rifle against the railing, takes careful aim, and opens fire. Bullets rain down on the aliens and several fall to the ground. The bolt clicks back as Katty Bard exhausts another magazine. As she is reloading, automatic fire erupts from underneath her and bullets stitch a path on the wall next to her. She dives back inside the building, and she can hear aliens chittering on the floor below.

Don't Fight The Aliens, Just Go Limp And Hope For The Best. :/

As the alien that took the Browning puts it in a metal box of some kind, a fourth alien rushes in the door and begins chittering officiously. One of the aliens holding Mist7676 begins to reply, but the new one interrupts sharply, turns, and leaves.

There is a pause as the three aliens look at each other. Then the one tosses the box back in its rucksack as the others drop Mist7676 by the mail chute, and the three double-time it out the door.

Realizing that he is still in the enemy base, jmj3000 quickly reaches for his trusty Beretta - but discovers his pocket is empty. He spends the next couple minutes looking around trying to find it.

Drop the Baretta and burn the aliens!

AcRv: 4-1=3

Make a smart-arse comment at the aliens before rolling back around the corner and finish patching myself up.

Immediately, izakthegoomba drops the Beretta and grabs AcRv's lighter and spraycan. As he fumbles with it, AcRv gets to his knees and yells, "What, you don't like barbecue?"

The aliens spin around, just in time to flinch back away from izakthegoomba's flame attack. They and AcRv dive around their respective corners at the same moment.

There is a pause as AcRv finishes tying his tie over his wound.

"Yeah, I don't think I hit them," says izakthegoomba.

AcRv no longer suffers from his -1 penalty.

theamatuer: 1

theamatuer furiously searches for a hiding spot, but the alley is practically bare. His surroundings grow dark as ominous figures block entrance to the alley, weapons raised and humming.

JDGA: 3

Call for help to get their attention then ambush them (perhaps with psychic powers since I still don't have anything to actually ambush them with).

JDGA turns and enters the first door he finds. Yelling back at the aliens before mentally locking the door, he runs down a long hallway on the second floor, with sunlight streaming through a row of windows on the right side. He has just run halfway down the hall when he trips and tumbles to the ground just as a line of bullets smash through the window, missing him by inches.

Breathing hard as he looks back over the hallway full of broken glass, he gets an idea. He nudges open the nearest door and starts levitating the glass off the floor as the sound of pounding at the staircase door reaches him. He then flings the glass at the door just as it is being kicked open, and dives into the room as the lead alien in the doorway cries out.

Katty Bard: 1

Attempt to help JDGA.

Ignoring the sounds below, Katty Bard sees a dark figure through a large window in the main apartment building. She takes careful aim and opens fire. Satisfied she has hit her target when it vanishes from sight, Katty Bard safes her rifle and turns around. She makes it to the top of the stairs before realizing the troopers are mere seconds away.

Katty Bard has fired approximately half of her first 30-round magazine.

Scream, "COWARDS" and jump down another chute for 'Larger Packages'

There is a pause as the aliens clear out of the post office.

Mist7676 then yells, "Cowards!", and dives through the window for larger packages. Where she immediately bowls over and smashes a pile of packages sitting on the other side, one of which is labelled "Flatscreen TV".

Mist7676 has found a brand-new semiautomatic SIG 716 Patrol Rifle. It is not loaded.

Turn 87 Resolution

Escape.

izakthegoomba: 3

AcRv: 6

Perform a tactical retreat which mimics that of running away, but so it seems less cowardly. And while running, also be on the lookout for the engine room.

The trio of survivors turns to flee. jmj3000 soon trips on somebody's foot and falls to the ground. The alien troopers move up and pin him down, guns pointed at his head. They chitter among themselves, apparently deciding what to do with the prisoner who apparently came back to life.

With the aliens distracted by jmj3000, izakthegoomba and AcRv manage to make it down the hallway and turn the corner. izakthegoomba sprints ahead and finds himself alone at the end of a hallway. The only door is locked.

Meanwhile, AcRv searches the new engine-looking room whose open doorway he just entered. A maze of pipes lines the walls, and several large containers seem to descend for several stories below. Behind him, the door suddenly swings shut and locks firmly, blocking out the only light source. AcRv is now standing in a pitch-black room.

theamatuer: 4

slap acrv through space-time then flee.

theamatuer reaches out through space-time and tries to hit AcRv. His recoils in pain as his hand strikes something metal, possibly a door. Several aliens enter the alleyway, approaching cautiously. theamatuer leaps onto the metal fence and scurries over, dropping gracelessly but safely to the pavement on the other side.

JDGA: 4

Pwn people.

JDGA levitates the remaining glass and flings it towards the doorway. The two aliens struggling through are struck by the knife-like shards, which easily penetrate their armor. They fall to the ground, and two more aliens clamber over their bodies. JDGA sprints through the other door as shots ricochet around his feet.

Katty Bard: 4

run awaaaaaay.

Katty Bard turns from the stairway and cautiously enters the next room over. Seeing nothing of interest, she opens the closest door and enters. She finds herself in a small living room, with a couch and recliner sitting across from a small TV.

Two rooms over, the aliens reach the top of the stairs and spread out in search of Katty Bard.

Mist7676: 1

Look for an exit and walk out it stealthy like.

Holding her new rifle and looking around, Mist7676 spots a glass door leading out to a sidewalk cut into the hill behind the building. She creeps up to the door, peeking both ways through the glass, then crouches, takes a few quick breaths, and with a single, liquid motion, surges forwards through the door.

Unfortunately, the door is locked.

Mist7676 has smashed face-first into the door and is now bleeding from the forehead. She will be -1 next turn. The glass of the door is now spiderwebbed with cracks where she struck it.

Attempt to disarm on[e] of the four aliens surrounding me.

Lunging out, jmj3000 knocks one of the aliens' gun out of its hand. It clatters loudly to the floor, and all four aliens back away carefully, as if expecting something bad to happen.

Nothing does.

izakthegoomba: 5

Try to force the door at the end open.

izakthegoomba presses his hands hard against the surface of the door and begins to push it sideways. After a few moments, he manages to get it far enough to get his fingers in and pull it open. He finds himself in an elevator of sorts, with a control panel off to the left. It has several dozen buttons with alien symbols and pictographs on it.

AcRv: 1

Call out "I know you're in here; I'm here because we both need each other." If there is no response, I use my iPhone as a torch to light up the area.

"Hello? Is anybody in here?" AcRv calls out. "I'm a human survivor who escaped from the holding cells. If you are human, we should work together. We'll survive longer."

A light clicks on, and AcRv raises his arm to block out the blinding light. When his eyes adjust, he sees several figures standing in front of him, weapons raised.

theamatuer: 2

view the map now.

theamatuer glances down at the map. He sees several groups of red dots and blue outlines of buildings before being distracted by a hail of alien bullets whiz past him.

JDGA dives smoothly through the open window, doing a single somersault before gently coming to a rest on the pavement below. He finds himself on the street behind the apartment complex, well away from any roving alien patrols.

Katty Bard gingerly steps onto the table with the TV and climbs over to crouch behind it. Unfortunately, she bumps it while doing so, and it tips and falls to smash on the floor. Loudly. A moment later, she hears the aliens begin beating on the door.

Find the keys magically hidden in a flowerpot.

Checking under the nearest flowerpot, Mist7676 conveniently finds a set of three or four keys. Trying the first one, she opens the door, steps inside, and locks it behind her. She is on an empty sidewalk with no aliens in sight. Over to one side is a parking lot, while the building towers above her to the left.

It's a sort of downtown-suburban type area - a couple blocks one way takes you to houses and parks and trees, while a couple blocks the other takes you to office buildings and restaurants. You can hear fighting, but nothing on this side of the building. You can see the alien structure jutting above the buildings on the other side of the street.

Turn 89 Resolution

jmj3000: 6

Grab the gun and fire on all four of the aliens.

As the aliens are still off-balance, jmj3000 dives to the floor, snatches the gun by the stock, and tumbles with it to one wall. Before the aliens can take aim, he pulls the trigger.

As designed, the anti-theft features of the weapon activate, shocking jmj3000 with electrical jolts. However, as designed, the shocks that would have caused an

alien

to drop the weapon do quite the opposite, and as jmj3000 seizures a lethal thread of bullets trace their way across all four aliens, with several striking each in the chest.

A few seconds later, the weapon runs dry. Shortly after, the shocks stop. The alien gun hits the floor at the same time jmj3000 does.

jmj3000 has suffered light burns and bruising and is still spasming from the effects of the shocks. He will be an at -2 next turn.

izakthegoomba: 4

Go up.

izakthegoomba punches the highest button and waits. He suddenly feels very heavy as the elevator accelerates upward. After about a minute, the doors slide open to reveal an empty hallway. He cautiously steps out, and the doors close behind.

AcRv: 6

Raise my arms slowly in surrender, but still hold onto the iPhone, while asking them if they've considered a more efficient type of engine.

AcRv slowly raises his hands, clutching to his iPhone. "Whoa, now," he says calmly. "No need to be hasty. Have your engineers considered swapping out molecular bonding for quantum locking to hold your ion acceleration grid? Sure you have to keep it near absolute zero, but you can really boost your efficiency by...."

His explanation is cut short by a blow to the back of the head, courtesy of an alien trooper.

AcRv has been knocked out.

theamatuer: 2

run awayyyyyy.

theamatuer turns away from the map and sprints down the alleyway. He turns the corner and finds himself at yet another dead end, with the back of a three-story building in front of him. He can hear the fence jingling as the troopers try to figure out a way through.

JDGA: 5

Cut to the inevitable chase and head for the alien structure.

JDGA resigns to his fate and runs in the direction he last saw the alien base. After a couple minutes, he sees one of the towering supports a few blocks to his left. It appears unguarded, and JDGA is able to pry open the door and enter without incident. The room is very different from the stark hallways the other survivors encountered. His surroundings seem relaxed, almost luxurious. Several couches dominate the room, with tables and chairs scattered throughout. Along one wall is a long line of thick slits in the wall, as if food was served through them.

Katty Bard: 1

Find a doorway inside the apartment that allows me to grapple with these alien scum one at a time.

Katty Bard abandons her hiding spot and searches the apartment for another way out. The only other door is firmly locked, and any windows are too high to jump.

The door flies inward with a powerful kick from the lead trooper, and Katty Bard sees three aliens enter the room, weapons ready.

Go to the building on the left?

Mist7676 goes to the end of the sidewalk and turns left, finding herself in front of the large building. She sees a suspicious object sitting in front of the lobby entrance. A 2m-tall rod extends from the top of a trash can-sized metal cylinder, which has several slots around its circumference. Moving closer, Mist7676 sees that a half-dozen cameras are on the end of the rod, which is rotating slowly. Suddenly, one of the cameras spins toward her, its lens whirring as it focuses.

Say "Screw you alien scum", complete with stuttering from the shocks. Attempt to stand.

jmj3000 rolls over with a groan, attempting to get to his feet. The words "Skuh-screw you, alien s-s-s..." make it out of his mouth before he is silenced by a metal gun barrel thrust into his forehead.

Another alien has arrived at the scene. The alien's garb is subtly different, and its weapon is a smaller, one-handed device.

izakthegoomba: 6

Explore.

izakthegoomba walks cautiously down the hall, looking for anything of interest. The first few doors he tries are locked, but a large set of double doors further down swings open with a touch. Inside, izakthegoomba sees a wall covered with various types of assault rifles and other long guns. A large table in the middle is stacked with crates of grenades and ammunition. Several alien troopers are also present in the room, cleaning their guns. Upon seeing izakthegoomba, they grab the nearest weapons, taking aim and chattering commands.

AcRv: 1

awaken in front of the commander of the ship, who's happy to talk to me about engine modifications, with all of my equipment either on me or lying on a table in front of me.

AcRv lies silently unconscious as the aliens bundle him down yet another hallway. He is just dreaming about having impressed the alien commander with the design of a new heat exchanger when he is thrust suddenly awake by being thrown onto the floor a small cell. Before he can parse what is happening, the door slams behind him.

The room AcRv is in has no obvious features on the walls - even the edges of the door are barely visible. There is a triangular bed in the corner next to the door, the long edge extending away from the door into the room, a solid panel blocking anyone from going under it; in the middle of the opposite wall, there is a stool next to a tiny table, both bolted to the floor; and on the other side of the door is some odd device which might just be a toilet.

theamatuer: 2

climb the building.

theamatuer sprints to the wall and takes several steps up, hoping to find some sort of path to the top. Unfortunately, the wall above is made of bare brick and there are no handholds.

JDGA: 3

Explore.

JDGA opens the nearest door and enters a hallway leading deeper into the alien structure. Unlike the other hallways, this one is relatively bare and has only a single door at the end. JDGA tries to open it, but finds no discernible handle, pressure plate, or keypad.

Katty Bard: 5

shoot, shoot, shoot.

Forgetting any plans of retreat, Katty Bard turns around and opens fire. The lead alien, also the largest, falls to the ground with several slugs buried in its chest. A second alien falls as well, mortally wounded in the stomach. The third alien is wounded in the leg and falls to the floor, clutching at its weapons. Katty Bard slowly walks towards it, raises her rifle, and fires a single round into the alien's forehead.

Mist7676: 5

Run [away from] the building.

Sensing danger, Mist7676 decides to put as much distance between her and the building entrance as possible. She runs back the way she came, and is soon out of sight around the corner. She runs a couple more blocks before pausing for breath.

Mist7676 is standing on a commercial street, with small storefronts lining both sides. A couple blocks in one direction, a large number of dead zombies can be seen scattered across the street, and beyond them an upside-down pickup truck; in the other direction, the road curves and passes through a park.

Turn 91 Resolution

jmj3000: 3

Attempt to disarm this alien and command it to take me to its leader.

jmj3000 lunges for the alien's weapon, but he misses. The alien seems to laugh, and gestures towards a nearby door with the barrel. jmj3000 hesitates, then decides it is in his best interest to do what the trooper says. The door slides open as he approaches it, and he finds himself in a hallway leading away from the prison chambers, walking ahead of the trooper.

izakthegoomba: 3

Raise my hands above my head, but don't do anything stupid like turning my back or getting on the floor.

izakthegoomba freezes in place, then slowly raises his hands. The aliens approach, expertly fanning out to avoid getting bunched together. They stare at him, chattering with each other. izakthegoomba stares back at them intensely, hoping to find a weakness in their tactics.

AcRv: 4

Examine the new tool.

Sitting on one corner of the bed (a piece of furniture which seems to demonstrate the universality of uncomfortable-futon technology), AcRv begins playing with the device.

At first glance, it looks startlingly like a longer version of the PlayStation Move controller, save that it is much heavier and only has three obvious controls: a large and a small sliding switch on one side and a trigger opposite it. However, poking the ball reveals it (unlike the light on the Move) to be soft and deformable - at least at first. As AcRv twiddles the large switch, the device makes puffing noises and the ball becomes stiff - either retaining the shape he squeezed it into or popping back into its spherical form.

It's not obvious what the small switch does, but the trigger definitely causes the ball to spin.

keep climbing.

theamatuer flexes his fingers, crouches, and leaps onto the wall. He somehow manages to grab onto a ledge with his fingertips and deftly pulls himself up. With the sound of gunshots echoing from below, he sees a drainage pipe off to the left and clambers up it towards the roof. Bullets whiz by as he rolls onto the roof, safe from the aliens below. Carefully peeking over the edge, he can see them standing in the alleyway twenty feet below, wondering what to do next.

JDGA: 4

Telekinetically open the door.

JDGA closes his eyes and concentrates, mentally feeling his way around the door mechanism. With a quick telekinetic twist on a switch, the mechanism hums to life and opens. Stepping through, JDGA finds himself in a large, open room lined with tables and benches. At the other end of the room sits a massive table and chair on a raised dais. Behind it, JDGA sees two more doors, though he can see no others along the walls.

The doors quietly slide closed behind him, and he is left in silence.

Katty Bard: 2

Search for any remaining aliens and destroy them bwahahaha.

Katty Bard steps over the bodies and out into the hallway, rifle ready for action. Downstairs, she can hear several more troopers...

...who evidently have been alerted by the gunfire coming from above. Deciding to forgo any direct assault, the commander gestures at the ceiling enthusiastically. The alien troopers point their weapons at the ceiling and open fire...

...and bullet holes open up around Katty Bard's feet. She cries out as her ankle is hit, and she lunges to the side.

Katty Bard has been shot. She will be at -1 next turn, or -2 if her action involves using her left foot.

Mist7676: 5

Look in the stores for weapons.

Mist7676 carefully opens the nearest door, keeping a sharp eye for movement. She enters, and screams in fright at the sight of several bodies lying on the ground. On further inspection, however, she finds that all of them are considerably dead and pose no danger. The building, apparently a store, is filled with mostly empty shelves. She sees something metallic in the corner, however, and investigates. A very large knife or small sword is leaning against the wall, still in its sheath. Mist7676 picks it up and notices a strange loop and latch on the bottom. Remembering a war movie she had once seen, she tries to fit it on the end of her rifle. Miraculously, it slides onto the barrel smoothly and locks firmly into place. Mist7676 smiles impishly, and stabs the nearest wall. The razor-sharp blade sinks in with a firm

*thunk*

. Nearby, she finds four magazines of ammo, which also fit her rifle! She inserts one, slams it home, and expertly charges the chamber. Taking aim, she fires through the entrance door. A satisfying

*crack*

is followed by the

*ping*

of the bullet striking the asphalt outside. Mist7676 stuffs the rest of the magazines in her pockets and walks back out to the street, ready to traffick in death.

Mist7676 has gained 119 rounds of ammunition and a large, pointy bayonet.

Turn 92 Resolution

jmj3000: 2

Follow the aliens commands.

jmj3000 staggers a bit as he walks down the hallway. As the stresses of the day catch up with him, he stumbles and falls, unable to comply with the aliens screeching demands.

As the alien stands back, nonplussed, the wave of dizziness passes.

izakthegoomba: 5

Wait for one to get close, then punch him in the head, throw him at the others, and try to fight my way past them.

izakthegoomba tenses as the nearest alien approaches him. He suddenly lunges out, smashing his fist into the side of the trooper's head. He grabs the now-unconscious trooper, spins, and throws the body at the other aliens. The trooper impacts his fellow soldiers with a

*crunch*

and they fall to the ground. izakthegoomba quickly moves up and disarms them as they lay on their backs, dazed.

AcRv: 5

Assume the latch will open and try to open it.

AcRv carefully pushes one fingernail into the latch. As he does so, the base of the device pops loose, and he slides that piece out of the case quite easily. Examining the part he just removed, he sees a set of contacts on the top, suggesting that it is the power supply for the machine; looking into the hole, he sees glimpses of two motors - one which rotates the knob, the other of which is apparently an air pump.

theamatuer leans back on the roof, looking to either side. He sees a haze of smoke hanging over the woods that were bombed just a few days earlier. After a moment, he concludes that the fire risk is basically gone for now.

As for what to do next - he doesn't know.

JDGA: 3

Search the room for anything that might explain what the hell's going on here (like some left-behind papers or alien equivalent).

JDGA scours the room, checking tables, drawers, and seats for any evidence of the aliens' ultimate goal. He finds nothing except a small remote wedged between two benches, as if it had fallen and been forgotten. He pressed the single, large button on the top of the remote.

Over on the side wall, a panel opens and a screen turns on. Some sort of diagram is displayed on the screen. It has several arrows and military-looking symbols around a planet that is obviously the Earth. JDGA examines the alien text, but can't make anything out.

Katty Bard: 6-1=5

hobble quietly back into living room, hopping on right foot as much as possible.

Katty Bard swears loudly and hobbles back into the apartment. She closes and locks the door behind her, managing to push a table behind it. She crouches behind the counter, examining her wound. A bullet grazed her ankle, making a bloody but minor wound. She grabs a hand towel from the kitchen counter and ties it securely around her wound.

Katty Bard's ankle is sufficiently bound to allow nearly full movement.

Mist7676: 6

Search for JDGA

Mist7676 doubles back towards the large structure, rifle ready for action. She soon sees the structure a few blocks ahead, as well as a large guard of aliens outside the nearest entrance. She steadies the rifle on a garbage can and opens fire. Several aliens fall, struck down by bullets. The bolt clicks back, the magazine empty. The remaining three aliens take cover and return fire. Bullets whiz past Mist7676's head as she ducks down to reload.

Mist7676 is down to 90 rounds. She is in the process of changing magazines.

Fake fainting, then overpower the alien when his guard is down.

jmj3000 artfully slumps to the ground in a cunning imitation of unconsciousness. Whereupon the alien speaks into a radio-like device and leans against the wall to await backup.

izakthegoomba: 1

Grab some grenades and a ton of ammo, and a machine gun of some kind (or some other big-ass gun if I can't get one). Keep the pistols.

izakthegoomba reaches for the nearest grenade to load up on the first of his newly-found arsenal. He hears a

*ping!*

as he hangs the grenade on his belt. Looking down, he sees a flash of silver as a small pin spins around on the smooth floor. izakthegoomba checks his belt, and realizes the spoon on the grenade is loose. He pulls it loose and sprints for the door, tossing the grenade over his shoulder back into the arsenal. He is nearly in the hallway when the grenade explodes, sending him flying into the opposite wall. Sympathetic detonations from the other grenades and ammunition rock the building as brass and shrapnel ricochet around the steel room. One fragment hits izakthegoomba in the calf as he lies on the hallway floor, dazed.

izakthegoomba has taken a shrapnel hit to the calf. He will be at a -1 for walking the next two turns.

AcRv: 6

Put the device back together and pocket it. If I'm then able to, take out my iPhone and play a loud siren noise while crouching to the side of the door, with intent on being behind any alien guard that runs in at the sound of the alarm.

AcRv nimbly puts the device back together in one piece and stuffs it in a pocket. He then takes out his iPhone, turns the volume up to full, and blasts a siren sound near the doorway. An alien rushes in, and AcRv bashes him over the head. The alien falls to the ground, unconscious. AcRv carefully steps over him and edges into the hallway.

He looks up to see four alien troopers staring at him, weapons at their sides.

theamatuer: 4

head into the woods.

theamatuer starts towards the woods at a leisurely run, leaping between buildings and scanning the streets below for alien soldiers. After a few minutes, he nears the end of the town. He finds himself on top of a two-story office building with a small road below. Past the road is a large, empty field with the woods just beyond. No aliens are in sight.

JDGA: 4

None so far.

JDGA drops tiredly onto a nearby bench. Leaning forward and bracing his elbows on his knees, he stares at the screens, hoping they begin to make sense.

Katty Bard: 2

Look for more weapons. You can never have too many!

Katty Bard looks around the apartment for more weapons, but finds nothing. Anything useful has already been stripped from the apartment.

She can hear loud footsteps coming from outside. The aliens have quickly climbed the stairs and are fanning out into the hallway, feet from her door.

Mist7676: 1

Continue murdering :3

Mist7676 inserts the next magazine and charges the rifle. She takes aim and pulls the trigger, but nothing happens. She inspects the chamber, and realizes that the top cartridge did not chamber properly. She tries to pry it out, but only gets a mild graze on her finger for the trouble. Bullets ricochet off the garbage can as the three aliens continue firing, slowly moving closer and staying behind cover.

Mist7676's SIG 716 is jammed. It will take a full turn to fix.

Turn 94 Resolution

jmj3000: 6

Overpower the alien and take his weapon.

jmj3000 cracks an eye open to check his chances of surprising the alien. The trooper is leaning against the wall, nonchalantly fiddling with its device. jmj3000 braces himself, then scrambles to his feet. He smashes the alien against the wall with his shoulder and grabs for its sidearm. The alien fights back, cracking him across the face with a clenched fist. jmj3000 falls to the ground, rolling to his back. He aims down the barrel of his new pistol and fires at the alien, killing it. jmj3000 hears boots pounding down the hallway, and twists around to look. Several more aliens have just rounded the corner at the end of the hall, and are just seconds away.

izakthegoomba: 6-1=5

Keep exploring, but do so carefully and stealthily.

Still shaken from the explosion, izakthegoomba walks down the hallway, carefully listening for any signs of hostiles. He arrives at a T-intersection and turns left. He is nearing the end of the hallway when his calf spasms in pain. He gasps as he clutches his leg, falling to the side. Just then, a squad of aliens passes in front of him at a run, apparently responding to some alert. Fortunately, they are moving too quickly and noisily to notice him sprawled on the floor, and their footsteps soon fade away. izakthegoomba leans against the wall and manages to stand up. He limps to the next intersection and turns right, away from the aliens.

AcRv: 4

Whip out the wiimote and point it at the aliens to make sure they don't draw first, apologise for the injury on their fellow alien, and tell them I want to offer them a deal and don't particularly want to hurt anyone.

AcRv plunges his hand into his right pocket and drags out the Wiimote. He brandishes it at the aliens, who seem to think it's some sort of weapon. Their hands freeze at their side, the aliens not daring to go for their own firearms.

"I'm really sorry for what happened to your friend, but I need to get out of here," AcRv says calmly. The aliens don't respond. "How about a deal? You let me leave, and I'll leave you guys alone. You can help your friend and nobody else gets hurt. How's that sound?"

Unfortunately, the aliens don't appear to speak English. They look back and forth at each other, chattering in their strange language. Finally, they seem to reach some sort of conclusion and start to back out of the doorway.

theamatuer stands on the roof of the office, apparently resting from his physical exertion. Suddenly, moans fill the air. A line of dark shapes appear from the edge of the woods, moving slowly but steadily across the field. As they reach the road, theamatuer can see missing eyes, broken limbs, rotting flesh, and torn clothing. The corpses stumble forward, eyes scanning for signs of life.

Our old friends the zombies have returned.

JDGA: 1

JDGA is still staring obliviously at the screen when one of the doors at the end of the room slides open with a

hiss

. Two aliens walk in mid-conversation. They don't seem to be strictly military, as their clothing is markedly different from the practical uniforms of the foot soldiers. Their dress is more decorative, but still minimal. The taller one spots JDGA and falls silent, nudging the other to get his attention. It gives a short command, and the short alien goes over to the side of the wall and punches some keys on a panel.

Katty Bard: 3

assume previous defensive position.

Katty Bard abandons the fruitless search for weapons and takes cover behind the counter again. She can hear footsteps, and a loud banging on the door. The lock and the table barricade hold, and the door remains closed.

Mist7676: 4

RUN AWAY.

Mist7676 turns and sprints away, zig-zagging to hopefully throw off the aliens' aim. It works, and she manages to avoid being hit before entering the nearest alley. Thankfully, it opens up onto the next street over. She turns right and starts heading back towards the structure. The three remaining troopers appear at the end of the alley and Mist7676 hides in a doorway. They turn left instead, and walk down the street with the metal structure to their backs.

Doors line both sides of the hallway. One nearby is ajar; you can see triangular bunks with footlockers through the opening.
