So, this chain of events that supposedly happened night 1 is wild.

THS tries to shoot Shea, who BlackStar bodyguards, but BlackStar doesn’t die because Smiley jailed THS.

I agree with OWER—if I recall correctly, wasn’t this game advertised in sign-ups as simple? This is way too complicated to match up with that.

It was advertised as Simple but Smiley claimed Lazy JK (Lazy is not a simple modifier, it's Regular+) and IIRC the game was formally in signups before the compartment system debuted. Smiley has no reason to lie about being Lazy (which is why I wholeheartedly believe his claim) so the game being tagged as simple honestly means jack shit.

Regardless of whether this game being described as simple is meaningful or not, my point about this chain of events on n1 being likely too complex to be true stands, and so does your point about having too many protective roles to be true.

Setup spec wise we're inclined to believe one of Smiley/BlackStar is fake simply because it's not immediately obvious for most people how the scenario of JK + BG + Mafia targeting the same person resolves

I mean, all those roles are in the Simple compartment, even if this game was not made with that system in mind, they're in that compartment for a reason. And the resolution isn't complicated, Jailkeep is considered it's own action type under NAR and resolves before Protection or Kill so it's not very complex for the mod to keep track of and the players only have to look at the NAR page for 2 seconds.

Again, I'm inclined to believe the JOAT claim is actually the fake one here because having a Vig of any kind in a JK/BG/BP setup seems ludicrously swingy in Town's favor, not to mention the other abilities that he claimed, and his stated night actions are incredibly convenient for someone in THS's position.

It's not immediately obvious how it resolves because it's not immediately obvious if the Bodyguard dies there or not (they don't because BG resolves only if their target would be dead without the BG's action. Since the JK stops the kill the BG doesn't trigger). Also that's not how NAR resolves in that situation because you can resolve it with just the golden rule by:

1. JK's action not affected by Maf or BG, it resolves first
   
2. Resolve BG since it can affect the mafia NK here
   
3. Resolve maf shot

The fact that we even have to explain how NAR resolves here is yet another point in it being too complicated for the old Simple guidelines to pass as a Simple
