We need to use the pawn.

Pawn captures. (Pawn to f-4) They move the Bishop to d6.
Queen retreats (Queen to E-2). They capture our pawn (Bishop to f-4). Check.

But if we DON'T, then we lose our queen to their rook.
(Queen to f-4, rook to f-4, Pawn to f-4, they lose their rook and a pawn, but we lose our queen; NOT worth it.)

@TCS: I don't think we could have possibly missed a mate opportunity. I'm sure that this game has more than competent players that would catch a mate opportunity if and when they saw it.

Meanwhile, I'm supporting neither of sirdanilot's moves. I propose g4. Black is stuck then. The only reason I haven't confirmed it is because I want to be sure of the moves first.

There was no mate in 4. I'd like TCS to prove me wrong but I doubt that'll happen.

g4 is a viable solution however that gives black a passed pawn which I'm not crazy about. I'm thinking Ne5 is better.

I'm sure there was a mate in 4 if black played poorly, but I'll echo the doubt about it being anything resembling a forced mate.

g4 seems pretty good. Ne5 is...ok, but I don't know exactly what it accomplishes. I think the knight is solid where he's at to prevent the queen from using that diagonal.
