Mini Normal Queue Rules

Players

• Please post in this thread to be added to the next game ("/in"; "/in to play"; etc)
  
• There is no experience requirement to sign up for a Mini Normal. However, playing through a Newbie game is recommended.
  
• Each player can only be active in a total of four Mini games (Normal and/or Theme) at a time.
  
• If a player dies in an ongoing game, that player is considered released and is free to sign up for another.

Moderators

• To
  sign up
  to moderate a Mini Normal, you must have been active on the site for at least 3 months and have completed at least one Mafia game.
  
• Please post in the thread to be added to the moderator queue ("/in to mod" etc)
  
• Only one Mini Normal game will be in signups at a time.
  
• Potential moderators can only be in a single moderator queue (Mini Normal, Mini Theme, or Open) at a time. Moderators must wait until the game they are moderating is completed before joining the queue again.
  
• Game setups are requested for review prior to a moderator's turn to run a game.

Mini Normal Games

• Mini Normals can have a maximum of 13 players, but can be less.
  
• All flavor in Mini Normals must be public and must be entirely original. Flavor based on any sort of source material are considered Theme games.
  
• Roles must use standard names, and Role PMs should not contain flavor.
  
• The game can have either one or two Mafia groups and no more than one Serial Killer.
  
• There must be at least one Vanilla Townie, and a sample Vanilla Townie role PM must be made public.
  
• There can only be a maximum of one new/variant role in the game.
  
• Only normal mechanics and roles (besides the single variant) are allowed. See here for more information.

1. Let me try to make this a bit more clear. At this time you probably have a good 3-4 months before you go into signups, perhaps more if a half-dozen or so mods clear review before then. So no, I don't think anything is going to clash with your semi V/LA that's going to happen in two weeks.

2. A semi-V/LA shouldn't be an excuse to shirk your mod duties. If you think that's going to be an issue you may want to reconsider your commitment here.

If I send in a setup and it gets approved, does my name rocket to the top of the list behind the others who've had theirs already approved?

This one. Doing your homework has rewards.

Actually this is a good question, and I've needed to make this post.


So traditionally in the Mini Normal queue, people sign up to mod and then just sit. Once they got near the top, they would get a PM requesting their setup. Then they'd go through the setup review process, and once that hurdle was cleared they would soon be at the top of the list and running their game.

Problem with this system is that people soon learned about the requirement to have their games reviewed, and what it entailed, and they sent in their setups early. Those people would then of course get approved early. So if you had people towards the middle or even bottom of the list with approved games, and nobody approved up above them, guess what? They got to run their stuff first.

So that wasn't fair. Basically those people were catapulting themselves over everyone who had joined the queue but not yet received the email requesting their setup. (I'm not suggesting here that this was done intentionally or anything - they just knew the process and were following it) So I recently changed the system so that you get the request for your setup as soon as you join. Now everybody is on the same playing field.

One side-effect of this that I didn't anticipate (but should have) is that we're getting setups in at a far faster rate than before. We now actually have a queue of setups waiting to be reviewed. I'm probably going to start looking for more volunteers since the ones we have are overloaded.

This is correct. There are currently 9 setups being simultaneously reviewed at the moment. I can't tell you why approvals are taking so long since I don't review, I just facilitate.
