The small town of Paradiso was a paradise village, built from scratch by wealthy investors to cater to the most affluent customers desiring eden-like conditions and their every whim catered to. And in the summer months, that's exactly what Paradiso was - complete indulgance for the few customers who could afford time there. However, during the winter, Paradiso was a frigid place a long ways from anywhere civilized, not a desireable place for anyone to stay. However, every year a crew of eight were hired and trained in the maintenance of Paradiso, and were isolated there for three long months until the ways were open.

And that's where you find yourself now, a winter paradise, but when you signed up, little did you know that the mafia had it in for Paradiso - the owners of it apparently refused to pay "protection" fees. So one morning, you all converge in dining hall #42, the one you all normally eat in, and notice mathcam, the crew leader is missing. Nothing is thought of it, until he's missing from lunch as well. You go to wake him up, and find him - well, most of him anyways - in various parts of his room. Written on a wall in blood is "Tell the owners another caretaker will die each night until payment is made - Love, The Mafia". A hurried phone call was made to the owners, who decide they need more time to decide, and want you guys to find the mafia and take them out.

Not like you have much of a choice at this point.

RULES

And so the day began, the seven caretakes left were on their own, the owners still deliberating on their payment plans... so it was up to those trapped in winter paradise to try to get rid of the goons who worked at night.

It is DAY 1, seven players, 4 votes to lynch.

(mathcam seems to get it a lot night 1, so I added him for fun. Another night 1 death on your tally, mathcam, and you weren't even playing!!! That has to be a record of some sort...)

And so the quibbling begin, the tiniest motions and the simplest words seemed to scream "I'M SCUM! KILL ME!". Maybe the town would be doing better if they were quibbling with knowledge...

And they all got very very quiet all of a sudden, and apparently were waiting for anyone else to throw forth accusations. This sadly didn't seem to be working.

And so, despite the sun sinking lower and lower in the sky, the remaining workers maintained a stony silence, all unwilling to speak lest they be targeted. But someone had to go, didn't they?

DEADLINE: Wed., Dec 31st, around noon EST.

It is 4 to lynch. If someone has received 3 votes at the deadline, they will be lynched, otherwise no one will be lynched. This deadline may be retracted if more activity happens.

Yes, roles will be completely revealed upon death. Along with the player's real name, address, social security number, VISA credit card number (and expiration date and PIN number) as well as their job, annual salary, most valuable possessions, as well as how their house is guarded, and a picture of their house key.

So I'd advise you not to die in the game.

Yes, the deadline is still tomorrow, the last 5 days there were 3 posts. Even with the holidays, the post count shouldn't have been THAT low. Maybe a whole flood of posts will occur in the next 24, who knows?

And the day seemed long, oh so long, and finally the inevitable, the sun was sinking scenically behind the bitter mountains, and the town had reluctantly decided to lynch tehgood. After a brief discussion, the condemned was pushed off a large cliff to the east, screaming and plummeting until a gruesome smack was heard - the end of tehgood.

A thorough search of his room revealed he was nothing special, just a yak herder who was looking for some extra cash for a trip to Disneyworld next summer

No talking in the thread nights, and the next spring, the first rock climbers down the eastern cliff had a VERY nasty surprise.

It was certainly a long night for Sugar. She spent all night waiting in the cold amid the various residences, to make sure the person she decided to protect was safe. At long last, she lifted her tired eyes up to see the first tinge of dawn. A vast stillness had settled over the resort, all sounds muffled by the snow. The pre-dawn light bathed the area in an eerie glow, with sharp shadows sticking out at odd angles. She started heading home.
All of a sudden, a soft voice shattered the silence. "You need some sleep, Sugar." Sugar looked around for the source of the voice, but could not find it. "Let me help you with that problem." the voice intoned, colder than any snowdrift nearby. Sugar started to respond, but the throwing knife that blossomed out of her chest like snowbells in spring stopped her. She had time to wonder at how much blood a body can hold before she fell to the ground. The last thing she saw was a familar face coming to get their property back, so they could kill tomorrow night.

Sugar, Doc, has been found dead. It is DAY 2, 5 alive, 3 to lynch.

(by the way, just fun trivia - last night, Sugar asked if she could protect herself. Normally, this is not the case in mafias, but it never hurts to ask. I asked her what she'd do if she were mod, and she admitted she probably wouldn't let a player do that. Poor Sugar.)

And the people were silent, each considering their own fate. This allowed plenty of time for the sun to ZOOM across the horizon.

OK, here's the situation. My parents went away for a week's vacation, and-- oops, wrong situation, and I just dated myself (and I was a cheap date too).

The Wed. deadline is now for Spoon to post before he's replaced. Day deadline is now FRIDAY. POST MORE, instead of just waiting for Spoon, and I'll lift the day deadline.

And with that dire statement, Phoebus is lynched. Alas, Phoebus, named after the sun, the source of light and wisdom. The papers in his pocket after he was lynched, of course, said he de-lighted in killing.

Phoebus, mafia scum, has been lynched. It is NIGHT. Deadline for choices, Wednesday. I will replace Spoon ASAP.

BTW, for any newbies reading... it is entirely fine for a town to post "YAY" or Phoebus to post "Go Scum" as night falls. Anything other than that might be considered breaking the rules.

And it seemed like the night flew by for the remaining crew in frozen paradise... except for Yggdrasil, who was chopped up for firewood with a dull axe. No longer between heaven and hell, his own personal Ragnorak has arrived... and being the good cop he was, no doubt is in Valhalla right now.

All this doesn't help the few remaining souls to find the remaining mafia....

It is DAY 3. 3 alive, 2 to lynch.

(mod note for newbies - there is one mafia left. How do we know this? Because if there were 2 mafia left, the game would be over. )

*sigh* another mod note, Just_Nigel hasn't opened the mail I sent him... January 19th. I realize he said he was going on holidays, but it's been a week. He also sent me a PM saying that if he wasn't back for day 3, to cast a vote for him, and he specified who to vote for. This really isn't done in mafia games, and CERTAINLY not on the last day.

There's a 2/3 chance Just_Nigel is town. If he is town, and casts his vote wrong, the mafia will jump on and game over. The last day's vote should be based upon posts by the remaining crew, and their past posts and voting records.

So, either he posts in the next 24 hours, or he gets replaced.

Now, suppose I'm wrong, and just niegel was making an elaborate ruse to throw us all off the scent, you still can't explain the fact that the MOD stated that Just Niegel was NOT HERE from January 13 to AFTER the mafia made his kill.

I feel, as Mod, I need to inform you Just_Nigel sent me a PM before he left. He MAY or MAY NOT have specified a kill. So it was a good theory, but I'm going to have to remind you Just_Nigel is just as viable a candidate. Have a nice day.

And finally, two of our last three caretakers are in a Mexican Standoff. Smoke_Bandit and Someone stand face to face, accusing each other of being scum. Right now one of three things can happen.

Just_Nigel can be town who sides with Smoke_Bandit.
Just_Nigel can be town who sides with Someone.
Just_Nigel can be mafia, and kill whomever they please now, and finish off the last one tonight.

Either way, it looks like the end decision is up to Just_Nigel...

At long last, the village of Paradiso was rid of the vermin that infested it. Smoke_Bandit was dead. And Someone and Just_Nigel stood over the corpse, saitsfied that justice was done. After all, he was the quiet one for so long.

They went back to the dining hall, and had a celebratory drink. Just_Nigel never even noticed the poison Someone put in his cup until it was too late. The poison was slow-acting, and paralyzed its victims while keeping them conscious... so Just_Nigel had plenty of time to hear the ravings of the last mafia before blackness took over.

Congratulations Someone.... winner!

I'd like to thank the players that stayed with the game the whole way through, and a special thanks for the replacements, especially Smoke_Bandit, who accepted even though he was taking over in quite a tough spot. And of course, the ever-innocent-appearing Someone, who managed to weasel his way to killing the rest of the town. Thanks for playing!!!

For the newbies... if it comes down to three, with one scum... there's two things a scum can do.

1) Accuse the scummiest, and put a vote on them. The drawback: if neither of the other two jump on with a vote immediately, the two of them figure out that if one of them were scum, the game would be over. Endgames just don't linger with one vote cast... unless it was cast by the scum.

2) Wait for someone to vote, then JUMP on and end the game. This is the most common thing to do, as EVERYONE is waiting for a vote. There's really no MAJOR drawbacks... but it does make for long endgames.
