Sure, and if you're town it believes that is all that happened. It has to consider what you would do if you were scum and needed to work together with your team. It thinks that story works mostly to cover your number choice and deny a specific "reason" for picking from existing... but scum will have to work together with their picks, regardless.

We could wax philosophical over what a wolf!Jake would do, but I think it's safe to say that any hypothesis at this early stage of the game would be both tenuous and likely wrong. I would even suggest that there may be a hint of WIFOM at the heart of it; would the scum coordinate to all choose different numbers to increase their chances of getting PRs, or would they double up on certain numbers to make the first assumption misleading?

I'm more interested in vibing in the thread until some drama happens.

Can it say that while it intellectually understands that all this masonry talk is kind of town block building from the foundation of what appears to be prior friendships for the sake of building something, emotionally this just feels like an in-group deciding who is and isn't town based on said friendships and gaining voting block control to dictate how things go, and it really doesn't know how to remotely interact with it. It feels massively uncomfortable, and it makes it sort of not want to interact with anyone who participates.

In short, it sucks that the depth of about four different players content in this game is wholy this thing, and that this thing is more or less just an exclusion method. It hates it, quite a bit.

So how is it meant to take it? If it takes it at face value, then it's an in-group building based upon how you connect with seemingly little other than past experiences, for the sake of town blocking.

If it's meant as a joke, then it's worse because it's accomplishing the same thing, except none of the content from said coalition is even usable because the argument will be "well don't take it too seriously" anytime someone tries to interrogate the behaviour on display. It's like Schrodinger's Cat, it's serious, unless it's not, and it's only not serious when you need to say it isn't?

It just feels frustrating because it makes it impossible to generate models on any of you because if the idea is "we're going to troll, but actually we're also building this too, but we're only joking" what is it meant to think?

the way i imagine people say infiltrate a townblock is like someone just showing up out of the blue uninvited and going "hello fellow town players" and everyone is cool with that. I think yall are saying something else when u say infiltrate.

It believes that infiltration of a townblock would look something more along the lines of beginning to force an interaction with one of the members, garner a townread, then use that existing structure to your benefit.

It does not think it looks like the skateboarding old man meme, entering the thread and being like "Oh, you're doing a masonry, can it join?"

And what if Mafia is what it... normally, finds relaxing? What if Mafia is a place where it can be somewhat unethical and experiment with the human condition and just have fun?

It feels like there are people who are good enough to do this... and who do this for fun, it doesn't know if it is among them, it aspires to be? But it believes it to be possible.

I think there's also the note that if someone had demonstrated mastery over trickery, that person would recieve special scrutiny by anyone not wishing to be made a fool of again.

In any case, this is all mafia theory and would be better suited for a mafia discussion thread. As for the original point, people don't get indoctrinated into the townbloc because, like, they flashed The Doctor's psychic paper to unsuspecting victims. They get into the townbloc because they've both been generally townread by enough people and because they are actively helping the town win the game.

A game of Mafia is similar to this, in that the first day, the first few pages even, sets the stage for how the rest of the game will play out. Now, because the creation of either is an entire ordeal, it is also very difficult for me to grasp at anything except the cosmic straws left before me.

In more literal terms, I don't meaninfully engage with the beginning of a game because I am awful at it, and people much better than me can work their way through it for me.

The point is that they could, not that they will. Whether they have or not is immaterial, gambler's fallacy.

This is a game of "could"s, though. Determining what is more likely and staking your moves on that, then adapting with new information is the entire methodology of the game.

Simply stating that because somehting "could" happen that we shouldn't act upon the idea that it is unlikely and attempt to solve with a mentality in mind feels reductive and dismissive, to it.

It thinks there is a good line of reasoning and ability to choose where to look first in the logic it has presented. It even stated that it wasn't willing to say it was a certainty, and yet here we are discussing in a circle about "if something IS possible then we should consider both worlds" instead of hedging and using logic to try and eliminate worlds until proven otherwise.

Eliminating people from consideration as possible scum without evidence from their posting and votes (and before mechanical results but that comes later) is one of the worst things town can do.
Not sure why it's focusing on 17 when it didn't even say anything until 40, care to explain that aspect of the points it's making?

What I believe Dave (or David / other ancient characters if he prefers) means in these two posts is that we should be consolidating votes onto the same person today to build pressure onto them and see how they react. In this day, we aren't eliminating possibilities, but searching them.

i think the fixation on duck's inconsistency about voting him vs voting with him is the type of focus to come from scum more often than not, like it doesn't actually say anything about duck's alignment it's just poking holes at inconsistencies because that's easy to do. the follow up in 840 just seems to draw out the bit way too far, like town does mildly inconsistent shit like that all the time and i find it hard to believe pavowski has never encountered that before and feels it's worth pressuring like this

dave is against voting people high up in the draft order because it's likely they got prs (even though I'm the only one guaranteed player to have one, if i hadn't selected VT, given that dave or june or pavowski could have chosen a pair that one of the players higher up in the order did).

You do realize that’s it’s a frequent occurrence and standard practice that e-1 wagons claim…and this happens frequently…you do realize this, right?

It would be standard practice for any other setup, but not in a setup where one's claim is as Alignment Indicative as one's star sign. If someone were to try and use their claim as a deterrent for their execution, that's on them for not understanding the setup.

Sometimes less than e-1 wagons claim. If scum claim something good that is held by town then they get the town to claim too and probably a 1v1. All d1 outcomes of any claim are bad for town mechanically. It's always best to d1 lim outside the top 5 or 6 in this setup aside from the rare but possible case that all 3 scum are that high.

I would disagree that a 1v1 is a bad outcome for town. That's a guarenteed wolf axe for the loss of at most one townie.

If anything, a 1v1 this early in the game, even at the cost of an arbitrarily powerful town PR, would be more than made up for executing 1 of 3 scum.

Getting scum early can help, I can't argue with that. But it's not the panacea that it's made out to be.

I've had several recent town losses where scum was eliminated d1 and it didn't help in the slightest. And more town losses than I can count where the only PR left that was capable of actually getting a guilty was forced to claim prematurely, NK'd, and scum skated to a win.

Would it be fair to say that those games were similar in relevant ways to this one?

1595 had more to do with May than Dann.

I do not believe it's mere coincidence that Dann put me in with my scumreads. I do find it interesting that he came to the same scumreads I did initially and then lumped me in with those scumreads. What does that say about him? I don't know.

But I have generally liked the slot before this.

I do find it concerning that May felt the need to come to Dann's defense so hard that she felt the need to vote me. Her defense of Dann didn't even feel townish.

That's something worth talking about with firebringer, always. He's very capable of audacity as mafia. He's also naturally audacious, so he can be a lil tricky to pin down.

If this was a marathon game, I'd be much more wary of firebringer for a couple of reasons:
- I think his reads are fairly static (they're moving, but they're moving slowly for someone who's so present).
- he has uh, semi regularly ig, made comments which undermine the credibility of people presenting views he considers weird.

Thing is it's such a long game, and he's gotta live with that post being in his ISO for a long time. If he's scum with oblivion, I don't think he benefits from drawing that much attention especially from someone like gob who is very loud and audacious. A fire+oblivion team would be really cosy, honestly I'd guess even as early as that post.

Maybe that post actually makes the most sense either if Firebringer is town, or if Firebringer is specifically scum with Gob which is a kinda fun but very weird thought

I think my point is that I think Firebringer is a contrarian, so I'm not sure if him shooting down ideas he doesn't connect is something that's indicative of his scumgame

I think that this post sounds towny, but feels like it's scummy.
I'd like to think that this is just Fire mocking Gob, but it could be an underhanded attempt at cutting off a push early for various reasons.

I know you're working on sorting fire over there (ostensibly) but this post seems like such a strange one to focus in on, when you have the breadth of Fire's (massive, and there's still plenty of d1 ahead) iso to choose from.

Y'all might not know this, but Gob is a very intelligent and observant player.

He not the type of guy to make silly mistakes like confusing "ducky" and the worst as two different people, and actually believing Dannold to be voting randomly

The only reason I can think of for him to be feigning ignorance like that is that he's just scum

I would certainly not be surprised if Gob was a skilled and intelligent player. I've interacted directly with him and he was reasonable enough to change his mind when presented with an issue regarding his reasoning.

As I've previously alluded to, Gob is basically just a more annoying Not_Mafia. Very opaque, more annoying, and yet deceptively skilled.

The speed of the Gob wagon is more indicative of the playerbase's general will to get rid of an annoying player (a policy axe, if you will) rather than any one team pushing for an axe.

I will say though that this assumption (that scum have little power to dictate wagons) only holds if scum are in the lurkers and not in the active players. If, as an example, Firebringer and Dave were both scum, then the wolves would have a huge influence over what wagons get pushed.
