It was a warm autumn evening in Chaparral, New Mexico. StrangerCoug was out on a walk—one he had taken many times before. He didn't think trouble would arise on a familiar route like this.

He was wrong. As he walked up his driveway, a female-sounding voice spoke.

"Nice evening, isn't it?" the voice said.

"Yeah," StrangerCoug agreed. "Really pleasant, too."

"Not anymore, it isn't."

"What the hell?"

StrangerCoug's first instinct other than to say that was to make a 180° turn. His mailbox, which was just fine 15 seconds ago, was now completely engulfed in flames. He looked for something he could use to put out the fire before it endangered the rest of his community.

"I wish you didn't do that," he grumbled.

Somehow, a bucket filled with a clear liquid appeared in front of his feet. He picked it up, ran toward the mailbox, and dumped the contents on it. But instead of put out the fire, it made it flare up. The clear liquid was gasoline, not water like he thought it was. StrangerCoug just got second-degree burns to his face.

"You bastard!" StrangerCoug called out.

"Sucks to be you," the voice responded, laughing maniacally.

He reached down in his pocket to get his cell phone. He flipped it open and found that it didn't work. All the nearby buildings disappeared, too, leaving just him and the burning mailbox.

"One last thing, desert cat," the voice said. "Your friends are here, but they're not here to play. They're here to kill each other. Eventually, they'll be coming to kill you."

"They are

" StrangerCoug said in a rage.

"Plead with them, then. After all, you know this place better than them. Good luck—you'll need it to live."

The voice laughed maniacally again before fading away.

The setting suddenly changed. It seemed like the nightmare was over, but it was in fact nested in another nightmare. He turned off his alarm clock, which he failed to notice made a different noise than it did in real life, and opened his bedroom door to walk out into a warzone. His friends

RULES

This is a closed setup, which means the only roles you will know in advance are your own and that of any other player I mention in your role PM. All other role information is secret, including how many players with a certain role exist and even if the role exists in the first place. Yes, a game with absolutely no vanilla townies is possible. It's been done before.
To vote for a player, bold the word "vote" followed by said player's name, e.g.
Vote: StrangerCoug
. As long as I can tell to whom you are referring, spelling does not count and I will accept abbreviated or otherwise shortened forms of the name of the vote's recipient. If you change your mind about whom you want lynched, you must bold an unvote, preferably in the format
Unvote: StrangerCoug
. You may also
Vote: No Lynch
, unvoted the same way as before.
A majority of votes is required for a lynch, even at deadline. Once a lynch has been decided, it is final and further votes and unvotes do not count for the current day. If deadline is reached with no player having enough votes for a lynch, the day ends in an automatic No Lynch.
Once you're lynched, nightkilled, or modkilled (a modkill ends the day
ONLY
if the modkilled player is pro-town), I'll allow one "bah" post that doesn't contain any game-related content if you wish to make it, but you must thereafter stop posting in the game. Said "bah" post is the only post a dead player may make during twilight. Living players may continue to talk during twilight as long as they follow all of the rules.
You are not forced to like each other, but the fact that you badly want so and so offed does not give you the right to insult him or her. Please keep your hatred of people or groups thereof to yourself unless you want a warning. Three warnings (or an offensive enough post) and you will be ejected from the game and replaced with someone else.
Do not hide text or otherwise hinder its readability by using spoiler tags, invisible text, etc. You may, however, post in any color that can be easily read against the forum background other than
purple
. (I know it sounds arbitrary to forbid a specific color, but I'm saving my favorite color for mod use since I am the mod ) Violators will be ejected from the game.
Impersonating the moderator gets you ejected from the game.
Unless you're the moderator (that's me, obviously), co-moderator (that's nobody), or backup moderator (that's Tarhalindur) of this game, please do not delete or edit any posts in this thread. If I catch you, you're dead.
You are not allowed to discuss this game outside of the thread unless I tell you otherwise, and then only with whom I have allowed you to do so and at night. This is a modkillable offense.
Discussing an ongoing game gets you a warning the first time and a modkill the second time.
Do not quote or pretend to quote any private communication, either from me or from anyone else you are allowed to talk with at night. This includes your role PM. Violators will be modkilled. You are allowed to paraphrase, but you are not allowed to plagiarize. If in doubt as to your paraphrase's legality, PM me with the wording you want to use.
Claiming to be scum with someone else will result in a modkill.
I will issue a prod to any player that does not post for 72 hours without notifying me of his or her absence. (I'm sorry, but I do not check the V/LA thread.) If you are prodded, you will have 48 hours from the time of submission to post in thread. Failure to do so may result in replacement. Keep in mind that I have the board time down to the second. I will only prod the same player twice—after that, he or she must post every 72 hours to ensure that he or she remains in the game.
The fastest and preferred way to get ahold of me is by PM'ing me, but you may also communicate to me in thread if it is day or twilight and you are still alive. To do so, bold "Mod:" followed by what you want to tell me, as in

StrangerCoug was interrupted by one of the few people whose face he remembered seeing:semioldguy. He was not being rude, he was being constantly being hit by a hammer. He was strapped to an object that reminded StrangerCoug of a wagon wheel—in fact, it

" was timed perfectly with EtherealCookie pulling the trigger. After pulling it four times, the gun went off, blowing EtherealCookie's brain everywhere. Coincidentally, it was also timed with the last "

" semioldguy said before dying of internal bleeding.

"I don't like this at all," StrangerCoug said. "I want to go to work."

"And who's driving you?" the voice responded. "You have no way of leaving the house, not to mention you're three hours late already."

"How's that possible!?"

StrangerCoug looked at his watch—the voice was right. It was 9:00 AM, and he was supposed to have clocked in by 6:00 AM. Yet it was still dark outside.

A grandfather clock started chiming. It matched the time on the watch—9:00. On its side was another dead body. Somebody had taken a javelin and pinned DeathNote to the clock through his neck. In his hands were a rope, a roll of duct tape, and an illegal gun.

"That wasn't somebody I wanted dead," the voice said. "Oh, well, I'm still winning."

"You son of a—" StrangerCoug started to swear.

"Do I sound like anybody's son?"

"Regardless of who you are, you're going to pay dearly for this. And I mean it."

You can never be too sure of anything in Dreamland. What's there one minute may be gone the next, and X_~ claimed to know absolutely nothing about himself. A tree with a noose hanging from it magically appeared in StrangerCoug's backyard, and the town proceeded to put X_~ in the latter. He had to know

"A-a-a-a-argh!" It was the voice, apparently itself being driven crazy.

"Biting off more than you can chew, eh?" StrangerCoug asked it.

StrangerCoug looked out his window and watched as his friends, new and old, pulled things out of X_~'s pockets, which seemed to have more room than they took up space. They found the same kind of illegal gun DeathNote had, various nightmare paraphernalia (whatever the heck constitutes that), and a Mafia emblem. Another evil really was conquered.

The friends and enemies came back to StrangerCoug's house. In the kitchen, StrangerCoug's kitchen table was raised to be tilted toward the sink. Chained to the table was LlamaFluff with his head sopping wet, and next to his dead body was a bucket with some water still in it.

StrangerCoug went to find a mop. Next to where he found it was cateraction with a santoku knife sticking out from his chest. Cats are curious creatures, so he searched his body. In his pocket, he found a business card reading "Who am I again? - Nightmares 'R' Us." cateraction was after StrangerCoug's sanity.

The voice spoke up.

"How many of my fellow comrades do the friends of yours trying to save you have to kill, damn you?"

"All of them, now," StrangerCoug responded. "A good friend of mine is dead."

"Good luck. Like I remember saying, you need it, and I'm really pissed right now."

"I figured that."

He went back to the kitchen with the mop. Realizing what he said, he searched LlamaFluff's body too. Nothing of interest was found.

While StrangerCoug cleaned up, his friends debated on the recent killings and what happened the preceding day. Could they be more powerful than the voice led him to believe? Or is their streak of good luck soon to run out? Time would tell in one of the longest dreams ever...

The Dreamland Raivann must have had a lot of copper in his system, because he was emitting green flames. You then realize that maybe the green flames were an omen, because you find nothing connecting Raivann to absolutely anything. He knew nothing but that there was trouble.

Someone had been an awfully good shot at killing Mafia each and every night of the nightmare. Datadanne did the good deeds, you agree, but for some reason he still has to go.

Col.Cathart held his hand in the air, as if he had grabbed ahold of something and was moving it around. He moved his hand closer to Datadanne and then, with a sudden motion, moved it downward. Just like that, a poker table came crashing through StrangerCoug's roof, with a leg landing right on top of Datadanne.

This was not merely a metal fold-up table, either. It was a furniture quality table, with some of the best wood construction you've seen, real or fictional.

You lift up the table to get him out from underneath and search him. You find the sharp objects you found in DeathNote, cateractions, and SpyreX, which you are about ready to give as conclusive evidence of scum, but you find something else, too—a piece of paper reading "StrangerCoug is the best cat in Dreamland, hands down." Datadanne was on good terms with StrangerCoug, not bad terms! Why did he have to die?

MOD NOTES

Datadanne was a pretty damn good vig! 100% of his shots hit scum!
When SpyreX explicitly told me he wouldn't kill on Night 2, I actually thought he was going to set Col.Cathart up for a lynch in doing so. I also knew he was had when he claimed that his town win condition differed from that in post #1, though I thought it would result in his lynch, not his getting NK'd.
In case you're wondering how the hell Col.Cathart was supposed to make it through what would have been the rest of the game with all the Mafia dead, I thought of that, albeit not until Day 1 had already started. There would still have been a modkill Night 3, but I would have done it in secret (by using the Mafia kill flavor instead of specifically saying so)—I had already decided on disposing of whoot1234's replacement, whoever it would have been. Col.Cathart's untimely death pretty much prevented me from becoming a Mafia traitor.
Does anybody that's been here awhile notice some similarities between this game's setup and that of The New C9? That's one of my favorite open setups, and I decided to "bastardize" it for this game. It would have been less obvious with my originally conceived setup of a somewhat bomb-heavy 24-player game, though. When my reviewer, EmpTyger, said that three bombs would make it very hard on the SK, I was flip-flopping for a bit on whether to make it definitely one bomb and a 50/50 chance of either one or two bombs, then decided on just one bomb no matter what. With that, I took out three town and a Mafia I was using as a buffer as I found them no longer necessary. While not the only change, that's the biggest one.
