Short answer: Get a new modem and/or a new ISP.

Or..

Go to a PC
Open up two command prompt windows (run command then type cmd and hit ok)
in first command window type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -t" without the quotes, where the x's are routers IP address (usually 192.168.1.1)
in second command window type "ping http://www.google.com -t" again without the quotes

Play Halo

If you drop go to those two windows and hit control-C to stop the pings

If both of them have dropped pings at the same time, fault lies with modem (or you are using all or most of either upstream or downstream bandwidth)
if only the router pings dropped then problem is with router or LAN

If neither dropped pings, look at the time of the pings and see if any spiked

if routers pings spiked but ping to google did not, most likely a LAN problem, something may be flooding your lan or someone may be streaming content from say a PC to a PS3 (media sharing, etc) probably not going to happen, unless router needs to be reset/powercycled.

If both pings spiked, then someone in house may be downloading OR uploading a lot and maxxing out your bandwidth

Anyhow, try unplugging power to router for about 30 sec then plugging back in, see if that helps

Also call cable company - they can check your modem levels remotely. Could be that your modem's transmit is too high and is knocking itself offline.

Ask them to check modem levels and flaps
