I'm not sure that's entirely accurate - I thought it was dropped for lack of nominees. Rewarding 'bad play' is what we've dropped some awards for (like Most Likely To Be Lynch Day 1, thankfully).

Empking, you're conflating "good play" with "good enough play to win". Not the same thing.

Kerrigan, you're arguing with Empking. That was your first mistake.

Because we HAVE a lot of alts on this site. And usually it takes a while to 'get used to' the way we play Mafia here; when somebody catches right on, it usually means they either read up before playing, or they're an alt. I'll let you guess which actually happens more often...

Also, hardly anybody joins the site to play Mish-Mash, Large Themes, and Guys Part 2, in that order.

Because Newbie Games aren't supposed to be
for
the SEs or ICs, they're for the newbies. So when a new player shines, that's one thing... but when an oldbie shines in a game that's 66% new? Not so much. It's not a slam on the newbies at all.

Nope. I'm simply saying there's a lot of self-serving nominations by the same crowd. I'm not saying the

Agree with Best New Mod - disagree with the other. Best Role is unqualified. If people are using it wrong when nominating, fix that. If it's the setup that really brings the role to its full flower, nominate them for the Best Setup/Mechanic scummies.

::edit:: Best New Mod will need a longer timeframe, obviously. First Game modded (on this site) finishing this calendar year seems sufficient.

Wasn't Smooth Operator new just last year? But yeah, it seems a bit like a 'well done, you didn't screw anything up noticeably' sort of award... wouldn't miss it, personally.

Tar: *shrug* The modding awards all overlap significantly anyway, because it's harder to tell where one part ends and another begins.

Multiple nominations for awards seems fine; some players could conceivably only finish one epic game a year, and I don't think they should be disqualified automatically from BoW awards.

should be more of a Body Of Work award instead of a single game. A Mod can have a great game, and thats great. He could do a really good job, but if he doesn't show that same devotion and care to his other games, it doesn't really make him the Smoothest Operator.
Like it. I DO think it should be "body of work", but I'm not sure if you CAN nom for a BoW award with just one game, in the current climate (which is stupid, if true).

I also wanted to suggest Best List Mod. But I think that there probably is a lot of issues with a nomination like that.
Mneah... don't like this one. Too limited a pool of candidates, even with the changeovers this year.

Nominate chamber for Name Should Be In Orange
- he's been a coding MACHINE lately, getting stuff that's been on the drawing board for years (or days) onto the site. Yes he's working with the rest of the coding team, but a good share of the actual code is his.

You can add a new category. :)

I kinda like that one, although it's a hall-of-shame sort of thing rather than a claim to fame... and I'm marginally worried about people 'competing' to spam the game thread before it starts.

Well, yes. Sometimes Town wins, and sometimes Scum loses, and sometimes Scum wins, and sometimes Town loses. Just like any game, you can either screw it up and throw away victory, or you can seize victory from the jaws of defeat.

It can be considered for whatever awards are appropriate. Winning multiple Scummies is not uncommon for players (there's more player-awards than mod-awards)
