Oh, so, I've seen people try to get cute lately with really really really softclaims. So, for the lulz, I wonder what everyone thinks about claiming your game of origin?

I'll state right now that I'm actually against such an idea. I want to get a bead on other people's theory standing.

To be clear, he very well could be a lyncher. I just don't buy the "town" part. His nameclaim makes him a lot more suspect though.

If he IS a lyncher, he's not an asset to the town. He's a pretty good lynch (though a better vig, admittedly). I'm probably going to park my vote on him until I find mafia. Claiming lyncher so early as mafia is kinda suicidal, to be fair.

Doesn't necessarily mean anything. Hell, I would assume in such a heavily flavored game the mod would provide flavor falseclaims. Which is why I'm having trouble figuring out if you are scum or lyncher. You aren't town though.

Cut by McGriddle: The one about origin claims way on page 1.

There are a lot of castlevania games. I've seen a lot of "HEY! YOU SHOULD CLAIM YOUR ORIGIN" plays in theme games a lot. I decided to pre empt them by asking about the general thoughts so I could get some theory information as well as slight intent. Also it got things moving a little.

Well, it seems a majority are against origin claim. This is a good thing.

My own arguments against it would be that it's only town benefit is trapping people in their claims from the start. I fully believe the mod would provide fakeclaims in a theme like this. It doesn't benefit the scum a whole lot either, but generally so early on, the less public info the better. Later on in the game D1 is a good day to look back at for people who have information they shouldn't.

Between his experience and his response, I have determined Dekes is likely town unless it's demonstrated that scum do actually have fakeclaims. Other responses were mostly neutral to slightly townie. I'll hit each one tomorrow when I'm a little less tired, since there were some I wanted to ask more about.

@VV: Actually, unless they DON'T have fakeclaims. Once again, read all the words. That IS actually somewhat provable depending on the quality of claim once the shit hits the fan, so to speak.

Theory can belie intent on some small level as well. It's not enough to implicate anyone, to be sure, but it's a good sorting start.

Anyway, zwet's useless and benefitting scum. Unless he somehow decides to display town intent, I'm for his lynch.
His initial gambit is not my reason for this, it's his terrible reasoning afterward for everyone he's chosen to wagon and the fact he refuses to show his work and explain WHY it makes them scummy. He's using buzzwords that have no bearing on alignment.

semi busy this morning, eye appointment and such. Will go through the answers after that.

Zwet's also generally useless so I admit I'm colored just a wee bit by the fact he's annoying ^-^;.

Admittedly, a policy lynch is a terrible idea and I would rather catch scum. So far zwet's shown the most scum intent, but it's been a really, really small amount.

At any rate, I'm gambling on KDub being a good mod and guessing that there are two ways he could have done this. One is providing fakeclaims to obvious scum like Dracula, Death, Camilla, Werewolf, Axe Armor...things like that. Two is making it so generally "good" guys are the scum in this case, convinced to do Dracula's bidding for whatever reason. Hell, that's happened in the games, so it's easily justified. The trick is figuring out which it is, but for now I'm willing to clear Dekes because I have a preference for the former solution as a mod myself.

If he does things with scum intent, of course I'll reassess my claim.

VV: Interesting lack of a stance. Any particular reason you are "meh" on it?
LMP: Nothing of note.
Katsuki: Why do you support it? (Ah, wait, you explain this.) In that case, why is the "it does no harm" explanation suitable for supporting a game claim?
jenniwren: I think you explain why you're against it later. Ok, found your explanation. Um...granted, I don't expect many universal characters, but why are you opposed if you "think it's pretty unlikely that anyone could actually figure anything concrete out based on that information, though."?
Already commented on Dekes.
tans: This is an interesting chain of reasoning. I'd REALLY HOPE that no one would vote purely on flavor.
MPR: What makes you think it wouldn't matter?
Coach Travis: Why are full claims better in such an early situation? Do you understand the (slight) benefits of locking claims vaguely as opposed to explicitly?
McGriddle: Why?
zwet: And how does it benefit the scum to speculate based purely on game?

OK, I think that's all the lead ins. Sorry, I'm more questioning than concluding at this juncture.

Also, LMP: How does it benefit scum to HOS over voting? Why do you "love your vote"?

Cut by tans:

Ok, so, how does stupid reasoning make one more likely to be scum? Please?

To be fair, that post you quote seems very defensive.

Oh, right, how does vote hopping make one more likely to be scum?

@Dekes: While I'm at it, how does defensiveness make one more likely to be scum?

I ask all these questions seriously, not with the intent to ridicule, but to understand the thought process, and also to encourage you examine your "tells" to see if they actually have scum intent in them.

What prevents townies from being lazy, especially in early game? Fair point on the second. There does exist vote hopping that can benefit scum more.

It feels more silly than precisely scummy.

No lynch is pretty much a terrible idea til mylo. And then it's basically based on what is the best strategy.

And while you shouldn't be lazy as town, people do do it that way. The trick is to figure out if it's scum intended laziness or not.

Wise choice jenni.

So, I'll be honest, this whole fight disinterests me as far as scumhunting goes. You're arguing over drops in buckets. I will notify you when some actual scum intent starts occurring. I'll probably also poke people with questions as it interests me.

No, scum intent is a fuckton more reliable than "scumtells". Scum intent reads the person, not a checklist of what they do. Scumtells catch...the most active person. Regardless of their alignment. Scum intent can actually be intelligently read.

That'd be cause you're an idiot. But it's OK zwet, hopefully that vig will put you out of your misery eventually ^-^.

Gonna bet tans is town. Wagon is happening too quickly and easily for bad reasons. But hey, feel free to wagon him, at least then wagon analysis will catch the scum later.

Noted regarding claims. Thanks for the clarification. I'm in general agreement, though partial claims have a slight benefit of locking someone in a claim if done early enough. The disadvantage is of course scum generally have more tools to interpret such information than town.

That's a ridiculously high number, tans. Usually minis are 3:9. If an SK is involved, it's generally more balanced to run 2:1:9. Admittedly, I tend to run 3:1:8. With two mafia groups it's generally 2:2:8.

Why do you think 4 scum ever?

The other game consisted of 9 townies, 3 mafia, 2 SK's and a town vig.

10:3:2? That's...kinda scary.

And vigs count as pro town.

Quite frankly, you're making a bunch of newbie mistakes that the less discerning will call out as scum. There ARE Scum on your wagon, but not as many as you think. At this time, I would venture a guess there is only one scum voting you, assuming three in this game.

While newbs CAN be scum, they make different mistakes.

What you've produced are fairly weak cases. They are good for early D1, but very...um...assumptive that we know you're town. The reason I haven't really jumped in and started catching scum is they haven't played their full intent yet. There eventually ends up a post that reeks of scum intent and that's when I jump in. Course, I still am fine giving town reads as I get them.

Trouble is mislynches don't often work like that, tans. As I said, you have probably one scum on your wagon right now, if that. Further, if the town is so dumb as you say, they won't be able to engage in the wagon analysis that will catch that one scum. And I'm just as fallible as anyone else. It's too subjective. I would heavily advise against 'martyr' strategies.

Basically it's people being frustratingly idiotic. You just have to defend yourself the best you can, make cases the best you can, and overall just brush them off when it's gotten into a circuitous argument of stupidity. I've been in your position far too many times earlier in my mafia career. It's annoying to deal with.

The fact it took you 10 pages to see that kinda says a lot.

Now, I do realized newbs still can be scum, and the RNG doesn't discriminate, but he's pretty consistently, to me at least, looked like town failing to help the town a lot, and trying desperately to do so. Word choice and the like implies it.

@LMP: But, knowing he's inexperienced, what makes him scum? Can you list it off?

@Dekes: The thing is, the wagon analysis only gets REALLY USEFUL once I have flips. So I need flips, or I need someone saying something town wouldn't say. Do you get what I mean now?

To be fair, I have been pushing various information out there since the start of the game that I can likely pick up later when I have more information.

There was more information in that game, VV. You'll note that I was able to derive scum from the theory questions regarding the sleep cycle, and then find the breakdown of scum vs. town. Further, I died D1, and thus was able to deduce things without being personally involved for catching the rest of the scum (not that it helped).

Right now there hasn't been any strong fight I can draw conclusions from. I guarantee though, that the information that's floating about now WILL become more important once we have flips. But as it stands I don't have enough data.

@Dekes: But I have been scumhunting, and I've been voting since about Page 3. You at the very least have wagon analysis from me when people flip. And also note I said that when people say things with scum intent, I'll leap into action. I usually end up jumping in a week or two into D1 because someone's finally said something that can be used.

In this case though, it's what's not been said that has led me to vote MPR, and his...rather convenient appearance when people start noticing him has not done anything to ease my mind. Further, his vote sucks.

As for post 4, given his later posts about generally having an SK in his games, and linking as such, I don't think it's as indicative as it could be.

Of course, since you didn't read after his ISO post 10, you probably don't get to the point where he becomes kinda obv newb.

Careful tans. You're putting me in a position where I'm scum whether I attack you or not, and it doesn't necessarily logically follow.

...wow, SK claim much?

YES.

@MPR: I think that's exactly what he's saying. I usually have a facepalm pic for these situations, but I'm too lazy to pull it up. At any rate, LMP has a point about the fact that tans is still right to not divulge the NK aspect. That said, I don't see you fishing for it so much as commenting on how silly it was to try to use the rules that way.

@CT: Well, as has already been bandied about, proven role does NOT equal proven alignment.

But, whatever, at this point I figure tans is Town or SK. SK would fit with a few things he's said. Admittedly, I'd want to see at least one night before lynching based on SK Spec.

Well, it depends on a lot of factors, zwet. Because again, it doesn't really prove itself well, and is actually kinda a scummy power, but REALLY POWERFUL for scum, hence my conclusion of SK. It's a really innovative SK power, if an SK exists. Problem is, we have no evidence an SK exists.

I've been telling everyone they are moronic to vote tans. But to be honest? I wanted his wagon to continue because I expect a lot of intent will be revealed once we have some flips to work with. Hence why I've been like "Guys, he's newb town" "Guys, seriously, he's newb town" "Guys, he's fucking newb town" "Oh for the love of God, he's fucking newb town" throughout the game, but not going farther beyond that.

Not uncommon, but at the very least the role is verifiable. You don't claim an unverifiable role without something to back it up.

@Dekes: I see no need to lynch SK D1. Let me put it this way. If he kills, we'll know he's the SK and lynch him. If he doesn't kill, the main problem with having an SK around suddenly doesn't matter as much. I'd rather lynch mafia, to be honest.

The problem is cops don't often get a guilty on SK's, but it really depends on the type of SK.

I'm certain we can extract the truth after a night of actions ^-^.

Ok. So both SHOULD be at L-2. Katsuki, I hope you realize you're the swing vote. That can be both a point for you or a point against you, depending purely on the flips of either CT or MPR (possibly both depending on how things go)

Swing votes are a big tell. I've used them to clear townies. Less often I've used them to catch scum.

Basically, if CT flips and is scum, you're practically conf town. If CT flips town, you're slightly scummier. If MPR flips scum, you're a fair bit scummier, but not confirmed scum by any means. If MPR flips town, you're slightly more likely to be town.

Make sense now?

Meh, it's not great but it's still better than other things I've seen. What good have you done the town again? Have you even produced a suspect list?

You know what'd be REALLY COOL?

Suspect lists from CT and MPR. In fact, a summary of
your thoughts
on the game so far would be really awesome. Do NOT confuse this with a summary of the game.

It's obviousness itself. Just because you're too stupid to get it doesn't mean other people won't. Meh, I might consider debunking it later when I'm not seething at the incredible doltitude you exhibit.

/me sighs

You know what? I'm not being very pro town right now. I have no good reason for withholding why you're pretty fucking wrong except for the fact that your conclusions are so utterly stupid, it feels like a waste of time to refute them.

If you read what I said, I said you weren't a BAD lynch. First of all, nowhere does your vote for me come into this. You've been fucking USELESS to the town and have pretty even odds of being scum since, quite simply, scum don't want to give away information.

Secondly, I said that if we did lynch you, it'd more likely be a policy lynch. I preceded this with a but, implying that I DO NOT support said course of action.

Thirdly, I never voted you, therefore I haven't been "offering a policy lynch" on you. If I wanted you lynched right now, I'd fucking vote you.

So, tl;dr
learn to fucking read

Theory disagreement. There ARE advantages to getting and SK out of the way, namely reducing the amount of anti town kills. That said, I'd like a night to pass before I jump on tans for being SK.

Meh. Claim does not impress me either way on CT's alignment. For now I think MPR is still a better lynch. But seriously, scum trackers aren't that farfetched.

Yeah, not my best game. I wasn't analyzing it closely when I died, and I kinda let confirmation bias take over while I lived.

@VV: No, I'm pretty sure I was just saying that zwet is a terrible, terrible player who should be policy vigged at every opportunity, not softclaiming, even subconsciously.

I guess I'll be more clear next time. You know, he says I'm his lynchee and I'll be all like.

"Yeah, no, I'm pretty sure that zwet is a terrible terrible player who should be policy vigged, HINT HINT TO ANY VIGS, and I am of far more worth to the town than he could ever hope to be. This is true even if I were scum."

Yeah, in fact, just remind me of this post next time I'm in a game with zwet.

Well, of course I can't really debunk that theory since I wouldn't know. I will state I'm TRYING to be less angry though, since it doesn't get a whole lot done. So, while that tell might work at first I think that it will slowly apply less and less as I get better at controlling myself.

To be fair, I don't place much value on bodyguard and overall tried to forget I was one.

Hmmph, my scumdar isn't so much terrible so much as it is chaotic. I tend to hit or miss in huge ways. Either I'm catching most of the scum or none of them. It seems rare I only catch one or two. And it progresses throughout the game, of course.

This game was just missing :V.

@Katsuki: Dram is a fucking moron. Sorry, but he is. He's REALLY one to talk about terrible scumdar when he hardly plays the damn game. I mean, seriously, he's VI level. He is, however, a decent mod.

Not really hate so much as retaliation for spreading patently untrue things about me. Well, mostly untrue, anyway. Especially from a position of hypocrisy. Dram's a nice person but I kinda have problems with libel.
