Night fell upon the town of Averagely Suspicious. Not an uncommon event for the town as this had happened on a rather regular basis since the town was founded back in 1766. What made this night a special night was discovered when thirteen citizens met on the town square at the first rays of light. After hearing muffled sounds throughout the night they decided to seek out the cause for these highly irritating disturbances.
And not long after, they realized that every other citizen had been killed during the night. A note was lying next to each victim, leaving the remaining townsmen quite rattled:
1. This is still just a game. Play for fun and stay civil.
2. Do not talk about this game outside of this thread.
3. Do not quote any PM's from the mod.
4. Do not use invisible or small text or other methods to deceive the mod.
5. Do not use
this color
as it is the mod's color.
6. Any violations of these rules can and will lead to a warning and/or modkill.
7. Votes must be formatted in the following fashion:
Vote: Player
. Unvotes are recommended but not mandatory.
8. It will take the majority to lynch, half of the remaining player list to no lynch. If no majority is reached at deadline, the day will end in a no lynch.
9. After a majority has been reached you may keep talking until the mod posts the lynch scene.
10. Do not post after you die, not even a "bah"-post. All rage must be reserved for the dead topic.
11. The day phase will last two weeks maximum, the night phase 48 hours.
12. If a player hasn't posted in 48 hours they will be prodded. If they won't respond to the prod within 24 hours I will be looking for a replacement. Four prods will lead to an automatic replacement.
13. V/LA's must be bolded in this thread or sent to the mod via PM.
14. Since the mod is only human, feel free to request vote counts and prods if you see the need to. Any other questions regarding the setup should be send via PM.
15. This ruleset may or not be complete so I reserve the right to change it if I see it fit.

I'm here. But I haven't reached the necessary amount of votes to start the Day early yet. You'll have to hold out for another three hours it seems.
Information:
I have no problem with swearing. I have no problem with insults either as long as they're used as part of the game. If, however, somebody thinks he needs to use personal insults out of spite or if several people complain about another player's language/attitude, I will intervene.

After recovering from the initial shock you all decide the best way to mourn your fellow citizens is by having a tasty breakfast with cupcakes and pie. Light conversation about numbers and confusing avatars dominate the feast. After all your stomachs have been filled you all feel strong enough to take matters into your own hands. There's scum among you who killed your friends and your family and your are not willing to lose Averagely Suspicious to them, too, without a fight.
Day 1 begins now.

After a long day you finally come to a decision. GreyICE has to be the one who's responsible for the cruel deeds that happened to Averagely Suspicious, so you drag him to the noose. He seems rather calm and doesn't put up much of a fight. "You're all fucking morons!" is all that's been heard on the town square before GreyICE's neck snaps. You all feel relieved hoping that Averagely Suspicious is safe once again...until a note slips out of GreyICE's pocket. With trembling fingers one of you picks it up: "Better luck next time."

Little do the citizens of Averagely Suspicious sleep, GreyICE's words still spooking in your heads. As the sun finally rises you gather once again and only eleven of you show up. It seems that Ashblade and Snake Eyes are missing, neither of them known for being late. You rush to Ashblade's house, but all you find is his dead body lying in bed with an all too familiar note next to him:"You're next!" There's no doubt that a good, honest man died here, but there's no time to mourn over Ashblade as the next difficult task awaits you.
Frightened, you make your way up to Snake Eyes' house. The door has been pried open and reluctantly you enter. A foul smell lies in the air and the faint hope you had, that Snake was simply sleeping in today, vanishes. His body is lying limp on the bedroom floor and although you can't find another note, another man, who was fighting for the good of Suspiciously Average, is dead.
You have to stop this madness or your beloved town will not last much longer.

Once again, you argue for hours and hours, the paranoia rising until it seems as if everyone is accusing everyone of being responsible for the murders. Finally, as the sun sets, two of you are being led to the gallows, Hiraki and pod person. You question them one last time and decide that Hiraki has to face the noose. His reserved and quiet behaviour and his refusal to give out any explanations can only mean he has something to hide. So, what are his terrible secrets?
Apparently he doesn't have any. Hiraki, Vanilla Townie, lynched Day 2.

Morning. Two missing. Again. You don't know how much longer you can take this anymore. RobCapone and mozamis are the ones who didn't show up and although every fiber of your bodies strive against the very thought, you know what has to be done.
Together you head off to visit Rob's place. Through the window you can already see him lying in the foyer, dead as a doornail. As you enter to examine his body, the first thing you notice is the note you've all come to hate, sticking out of his jacket...his jacket? It looks like Rob was not getting ready to go to bed but rather to go out. What was his business going out at night at such a dangerous time like this? You search his house for evidence and you come across some very unique books: "John Locke's guide of tracking", "Trails 101" and "Pathfinding for dummies". Rob could have been a real help catching the evil guys, if he had only lived longer.
RobCapone, Town Tracker, killed Night 2
You prod over to mozamis' house with your heads hanging. One of you looks to the sky only to discover a silver lining on the horizon. He can't help himself but smile at nature's morbid sense of irony.
You arrive at mozamis' home and traces of blood on the doorknob foreshadow what lies beyond. You open the door...and find mozamis' body slumped over the kitchen table, slaughtered. He is fully dressed and shoulders a backpack, it appears he was ready to go out last night just like Rob. You rummage through his backpack and you turn up binoculars and night goggles among other things. Oh god, another person with the potential to help you find the killers dead. But wait! You notice a bulge in one of the side pockets of the backpack. You zip it open....a pile of cards, every one of them labeled with the words "You're next!" on it...and a gun! mozamis must've been one of the people behind the killings then!
mozamis,
Mafia Watcher
, killed Night 2
One of you looks out of the window and is once again met by the sight of the silver lining. He can't help himself but smile...

After last night's events, you feel confident that AGar must be one of the bad guys. He was hanging out with mozamis just a tad too much. And although your numbers are shrinking you waste no time and AGar hangs before lunch is served. You search his body and you quickly turn up a gun that was tucked behind his belt. And a syringe? And some meds? These mafia guys sure have a couple of tricks up their sleeves.
The rest of the afternoon you spend rejoicing feeling sure the nightmare will soon be over. One of you attaches one of mozamis' notes to AGar's lifeless body. "You're next!" - as a warning to all others who dare to threaten Averagely Suspicious.

Another day and all of you gather once more for what you believe will be the last time on the town square. But what is this? Two missing, again? What is this madness? Isn't the mafia supposed to be elimindated once and for all after AGar is dead? And who is this second killer that's still at large? What are his motives and whose side is he on?
You head over to Erratus Apathos' house and the shocking realization that all of this has become routine by now is not lost on any of you. As you arrive at the door, it becomes evident that Erratus, too, was not home during the night. He is still wearing his coat as he is lying dead in front of you, that dreadful note lying next to his face: "It's over soon!"
A shiny flash on Erratus' hand catches your eye. A ring. One of you kneels down to investigate it: "Better men make a better world - Averagely Suspicious Masons" the engraving reads...a silent sob is heard.
Erratus Apathos, Town Mason, killed Night 3
Subgenius' house is right next door. But not much of his door is left, and you make your way over to his bedroom. It looks almost as if he's sleeping but the blood dripping through his mattress reveals the truth.
subgenius, Vanilla Townie, killed Night 3
Will you be able to stop the killing before Averagely Suspicious is lost for good?
It is now Day 4.

It is a tense day. Everyone knows that it will soon be over and no one dares to make a move. Suddenly, Barry jumps forward and yells:"It was me! I killed some of the people. But I never meant to do any harm to Averagely Suspicious! It's just a bad habit of mine." "Tell me about it. Chain smoker for twelve years now", Papa Zito replies. pod person, irritated by this outburst from Barry, screams "No, wait! I killed some of the people! But it's not as bad as it sounds. The mafia just needed a new place to operate. And then, well, it got late and we were too tired to ask anyone if they gave up their town, so we took the easy way out." "I get you, man. Don't we have all some of these days?", bvoigt agrees.
"Why don't we all sleep a night over this one? And no secret killsies tonight!"
"Certainly."

"Can do."

Time is flying when your town is being threatened by vicious murderers. It is already springtime and you feel the nights are getting shorter and shorter. And apparently safer as well. Just as it was agreed upon, nobody had to suffer last night and you stand once again where you were yesterday. Will today be the end, one way or the other?

"It ends. Today."
Once again the sun rises and Averagely Suspicious is wreathed in mist this morning. An omen for things to come. A lone figure enters the town square. He looks around but everything appears empty. "Where are the others, pod?" someone bellows from behind him. Pod spins around only to face the barrel of a gun.
"You know where they are, Barry."
"Indeed I do. So what now? I will not give up this town."
"And the mafia won't either."
"Very well. But there is a third option."
"Is that so?"
Through the thick of the mist pod can see Barry smirking, but Barry doesn't seem to be interested in answering at all.
"What the hell do you want, Barry? The Mafia plans? Do you want to blackmail us? Do you expect me to talk?"
"No, Mr. Pod. I expect you to tie!"
bvoigt, Vanilla Townie, killed Night 5.
Papa Zito, Town Mason, killed Night 5.
The town has been eliminated and loses the game.
The
Mafia
(mozamis,
Mafia Watcher
, AGar,
Mafia Doc
and pod person,
Mafia Goon
) and Barry Allen,
Ninja Serial Killer
can't reach their win condition anymore and draw the game.

So, this was my first modded game and all in all I think I did pretty well for the most part of it.
What went well:
- Activity: Although I had to replace some of the inexperienced players at the beginning, the overall activity was great. Props to all of you!
- Barry Allen: SK is always a tough role to pull of and he went through the game almost unsuspected for the whole time.
- Town play past D2: There was a pretty solid town core (EA, PZ, subgenius) and a pretty solid suspect core (mozamis, AGar, pod), so the townies made themselves very obvious.
- Mason staying hidden for so long. They're a powerful role, especially when it comes to LyLo.
What didn't go well:
- Town play until N2: I believe GreyICE would've been a great asset for the town, but unfortunately he became victim of the random D1 lynch. And it becomes quite apparent again how hard it is to deal with VIs/inexperienced players. Nonetheless I think wikkiden should've gotten a lot more pressure for that glaring contradiction on D1. Very confusing town on the first two days.
- Mason play: Sorry, guys. But you had the scum team already pegged N1. And Hiraki was in your town reads. And you completely let the Hiraki lynch go through on D2 (although Hiraki didn't help his case by doing nothing). You failed to form a vote block that could've pressured the scum more.
- The mafia kill N1: There was a claimed tracker with three scum roles to catch and Papa Zito who had all of you pegged D1 and you go after a moderately townish person? If you can get rid of a town PR N1 you do it, no matter how shady that person looks. Claimed PRs don't get lynched on early days without a cc. Wasted kill.
- End game: Not your fault, but it's not the satisfactory ending I was hoping for.
Regarding the setup:
I don't think the Mafia was overpowered at all if you take into account some things:
- A tracker who claims unprovoked Day 1 is a huge blow for town. He could've tracked all three scum so it'd be in the best interest to stay hidden as long as possible.
- The mafia watcher was basically useless with only one role to catch.
- The mafia doc may be a bit more useful than a town doc, but he is very dangerous for his team if he flips after he has claimed.
I probably would tweak it if I would run it again, but not by much (get rid of the goon/limit the SK in some way).
In the end, the town maybe deserved the win since two mislynches is borderline in a mini and they played overall well for the second part of the game. But as I said in the Dead QT, they got punished for their bad first two days and just weren't lucky enough with cross kills.
Ashblade wrote:Oh, Barry killed me. LOL, no wonder I died.
Sorry, I mixed up Barry and Bill. You were in fact the mafia kill and I fixed it in the other post.
bvoigt wrote:BTW, what would have been the best way to play in the 1:1:2 endgame?
Well, when pod proposed to lynch PZ, the confirmed town, I wish PZ wouldn't have dismissed it right away. Whoever PZ suspected at that moment, it was obivous that the two remaining scum didn't who each other were. Which would've increased the likelihood of an unintentional cross kill and a subsequent town win by a lot. Of course, there's a lot of inside knowledge mod talk in here, but this seemed to be the best way for town to still have a shot at winning.
I hope you still enjoyed the game as much as I did.
Fun fact: Scum hammered all three times. So much for hammers aren't a scum tell

To weigh in on the setup discussion:
- Fact: The more PRs scum have the stronger the town tracker gets. The more PRs town has the stronger the scum watcher gets. So in this case we had a very useful town tracker and a very useless scum watcher.
- If you track a scummy person who claims doc to another scummy person at night, you should be able to put one and one together. And scum doc is a very acceptable role in normal games and therefore should very well be expected.
- Town tracker/watcher combination is very town op in a mini and I'd definitely question such a combo. If there was ever a massclaim in this game and people were to believe town tracker, watcher and masons I'd be very surprised.
Like I said, If I would run it again, I'd probably get rid of the Mafia Goon to give town a guaranteed second mislynch.
If town had gotten luckier they would've deserved to win, that's true. But that shouldn't divert from the fact that town played poorly through the first two days - almost half the game -, day and night.
