There was a widespread feeling of jubilation across New Catania yesterday, as notorious mob boss Salvatore 'The Jaw' Panucci was sentenced to thirty years in prison for racketeering and tax evasion. The happy mood was shortlived, alas, as the Mob decided to remind citizens that they weren't beaten just yet. Overnight, a number of prominent local figures and suspected informants were executed. The killing methods ranged from the gruesome to the... well, even more gruesome. Panicked, citizens have gathered in the middle of town demanding lynchings, determined to show the Mafiosi that there ain't no justice like angry mob justice.

Rules- Borrowed from BM and adapted to my personal preferences.

1.) This game is a day start. Day one will start when everyone has confirmed via PM. Any group which has an ability to communicate at night may also communicate before the first day begins.

2.) During the day you can vote for a player that you think should be lynched. Votes must be in the form Vote: Player otherwise they won't be counted. Players do not need to unvote when switching their votes, but it would be appreciated. All votes and unvotes must be in bold. It is also possible to vote no-lynch.

3.) When a player (or abstract concept) reaches a majority of votes, they are lynched. I will reveal their role, and the game will move into night. No discussion takes place during the night, except amongst roles who have been given specific permission to do so.

4.) If discussion is lagging or the day is dragging, I may set a deadline. If a majority is not reached by the deadline, No lynch will occur.

5.) No talking to other players, dead or alive, outside of the thread, unless your role permits it.

6.) Once dead, you stop posting. A bah post is fine though.

7.) If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

8.) Try to post as often as possible. Treat the game as a committment. If you go inactive, you will be replaced.

9.) I'll try to post votecounts as often as possible. Feel free to ask for a votecount at any time.

10.) Do not make verbally abuse any participants of this game at any point. This is a game, and I will not tolerate childish insults. Any personal attacks will result in punishments-up to and including Modkills.

11.) Do not in any way quote or fakequote your role PM. This is a modkillable offence. Any attempt to ascertain another players' role from the wording of their PM will be dealt with likewise.

The angry citizens of new Catania had gathered in the town square. 'He looks Italian, lynch him!' yelled one. 'Everyone looks Italian, Dumbass!' cried another. 'What about the French guy?" asked another. "Lynch him- he doesn't support the troops!" There was a general murmur of agreement at this suggestion.

But just as the offending individual was about to be strung up, the citizens looked around the square with alarm. Where'd the guy with the rope go? In fact, where was everyone? It appeared that a few of them had gotten so worked up, they hadn't noticed most of the town going home for pizza. Unable to lynch without rope, the citizens sloped off back to their homes, hoping to fill their own stomachs with delicious cheese and tomatoey goodness, and praying to whatever Gods motivated them that Panucci's associates (or anyone else, really) wouldn't be paying them a surprise visit tonight.

Ibaesha wasn't the kind to worry. Oh no. When she felt something was wrong, she could be relied upon to do everything she could to get it sorted out herself. So it would be no surprise to those who knew her that Ibby was out last night, trusty .45 in hand, seeking out the scum who were terrorising the town she was proud to call home.

Unfortunately for Ibaesha, some nefarious element had received word of her little crusade. When she returned home, just before sunrise, from her patrol, hoping to quickly shower and grab a bite to eat, someone was waiting there for her. Before Ibby could react, she was riddled with bullets, and collapsed to the ground in a crumpled heap, quite dead.

The morning news that day carried reports of the crime, and glowing tributes to Ibby from her friends and neighbours, all of whom expressed a strong desire to see the scum responsible for this vile act brought to justice. As yet, there were no reported leads as to the perp's identity.

The eleven of you remaining gather yourselves in the town square, with a renewed sense of purpose, determined to see someone swing before the day is out.

Vaughn was a pretty average guy. Liked sports, paid his taxes, always showed up at Church on sunday morning. The only thing was, he had a strange obsession with mob movies. Rumor was, he'd seen The Godfather a coupla hundred times, and Goodfellas almost as much. For a long while, neighbors tolerated this strange little fascination of his.

Then Panucci and his goons showed up. Guess what? His 'hobby' wasn't quite so harmless any more. When the killings started, it was only going to be so long before Vaughn came under the microscope.

This evening in New Catania, matters came to a head. Not believing Vaughn's claim that his interest was strictly limited to fictitious criminals, the townsfolk strung him up, hanging him by the neck until dead.

A quick search of his house found several promotional posters for Al Pacino movies, but nothing else of interest.

What was Kuribo doing tonight? In the days and weeks to come, his family and friends would ask themselves this question over and over. The answer was simple enough. The same thing he'd been doing every night lately- following suspicious-looking people, and trying to catch them in a criminal act.

Kuribo set off tonight in high hopes of apprehending a crim, not realising that they were watching him just as much as he was after them. One bullet to the back of the head was all it took to instantly snuff out his life, and the silencer attached to the mafioso's gun was sufficient to ensure the perp had long since fled before this latest act of villainy was uncovered.

The news was just breaking as the surviving citizens gathered in the Square once more. One thing was clear. Time was running out.

A degree of panic started to set in amongst the town on day three. With no criminals caught yet, every citizen looked at his neighbor as if he might be the one whose death might be necessary to end this.

Eventually, though, a consensus started to form. The crowd gathered around a bespectacled, graying man, demanding an explanation for his recent behavior. RossWilliam tried his best to convince his fellow citizens he wasn't involved, but nothing he could say would convince them otherwise. He was strung up by his neck, and left to die.

A search of RossWilliam's house revealed a medical diploma, a collection of very fine wines, a suitcase stuffed with counterfeit bills, and a signed photo of Salvatore Panucci.
From this, it was easy to work out his occupation.

Rishi was a fairly humdrum guy, living an average kind of life. Pretty wife, in a homely kinda way. Kids in the middle of their class. Drove a Ford, and liked Phil Collins.

Rishi met his end in a similarly undramatic manner, in so far as a murder could ever be routine. Two shots to the back of the head were sufficient to do the deed, and the news in the morning bore a pretty strong resemblance to that of previous days. Just another senseless killing, the usual warm tributes, and a further fostering of the desire for mob justice.

This nightscene, like the day which proceded it, isn't very long or complicated.

Thok was never the subtlest of Goons. He carried a violin case, despite no obvious musical talent, and was heard saying 'fuhgedabboudit' during conversations in Italian restaurants. Habits like this quickly gave him away, and Thok, like so many other cornered mafiosi, decided to take control of his own death. By the time the citizens had got the rope in place, he'd already swallowed the tiny cyanide capsule hidden in a filling, and felt nothing as he was raised in the air by his neck.

It's a beautiful day in New Catania. The sun is shining, birds are singing in the trees, and everyone's in a good mood since, for the first time since the current hysteria began,

no one has died.

Fortunately for fans of old-school violence, it only took one ill-advised 'your mom' joke to whip the crowd back up into the usual lynch frenzy.

It seemed that the previous two day's successes had gone to the heads of the citizenry. High on a potent mix of righteous anger and bloodlust, they quickly agreed that the one named Lowell was a likely candidate to continue the streak of lynched Mafiosi. After all, he was kinda mysterious, and no-one knew a lot about him.

They searched Lowell's house for clues, but found nothing. Zip. Nada. No evidence of a mafia connection, or even much of a social life. Sometimes, people don't give away a lot about themselves just because there ain't that much to give.

Ythill loved nightscenes. So much so that he spent much of his days coming up with new and clever variations on the phrase 'someone has been lynched, it is now night.' Unfortunately, in New Catania that made him stand out as something of an oddball.

The day's discussions saw something of a polarisation of the town, with two competing groups of similar size arguing over the best course of action. Finally, one of the town's senior citizens broke the tie, and came down in favour of lynching the luckless Ythill.

His mind clearly on posterity, Ythill expired with one telling comment, one readers of his own nightscenes would recognise instantly:

For twenty years, Claus had worked in the ER of New Catania General Hospital. During that time, he'd dealt with more victims of mafia violence than he could recall, and saved numerous lives.

Unfortunately, this was one physician who couldn't heal himself. Last night, Claus finished his shift around 2am. Wearily, he made his way down to the hospital's car park, and got in his trusty old Merc. He turned the key in the ignition, and... well, this is the mafia we're talking about. I think you can guess what happened next, can't you?

Setael DeRossi was one of Panucci's most loyal servants. Sure, she wasn't noted for her brains. Nor her beauty. But the one thing you could count on with Setael, when you were relying on her to do a job, she did it.

Or at least, she used to. It's a difficult job being a lone criminal when you're used to being enmeshed in the comforting web of organised crime. Left to her own devices, without anyone to tell her what to do and how to do it, Setael was far less effective. She became careless, and started leaving clues lying around. It was only a matter of time before she got caught.

Today in downtown New Catania, things came to a head. What was left of the citizenry surrounded her, and dragged her towards the gallows. 'Damn you!' screamed the condemned mafiosa, and struggling with the strength only the truly doomed could muster, she pulled a colt .45 from her coat pocket, and aimed straight for the heart of TheStranger, a local who'd somehow evaded her previous attempts to kill him.

By an amazing stroke of luck, the bullet was stopped by TheStranger's wristwatch, which he was carrying in his breast pocket due to its strap having broken that morning. TheStranger was knocked off his feet, but not significantly harmed.

By the time TheStranger had regained his footing, the corpse of Panucci's last henchwoman was lying in the middle of the square, taking a last good kicking from the jeering citizenry.

"Well, it's over," the Stranger confided to the man standing next to him, a distinguished gray-haired fellow named Thesp. "Fancy a game of poker?"

Ever since you saw your brother gunned down by Panucci's goons a year ago, you've been unable to sleep. Rather than lying there, staring at the ceiling, you've decided to use your sleepless nights to oppose Panucci's mob. Each night, you may choose another player to follow. Role description: You are part of a mafia group with LML/DGB/Thok and Beastly/Setael. Every night, any mafia members who are still living can discuss amongst themselves, and nominate one of their number to perform a nightkill. Unless i am directly informed otherwise, I shall assume that the player who pms me the target's name is the one doing the killing.

You yourself are also an experienced and capable doctor. You may target one player per night, and if that player is targetted for a nightkill, (s)he will remain alive. You cannot both use the doc protection ability and perform a nightkill yourself on the same night.

On another note: I'd like to apologise to the scum for starting day 4 early. I'd set a deadline of the 22nd, had received all the nightactions, and on the night of the 21st, i was online, and wasn't sure i'd get to be the next evening. So I started day.

In retrospect, this led to the one thing i dedicate my modding to trying to avoid, second-guessing the mod. Does him starting early clear the inactive? Did he bring day forward to avoid obviously implicating the inactive when no kill occurred? I can't help but feel this contributed in some way to the 'clearing' of someone2. It just hadn't occurred to me that everyone would look straight to the inactive when there was no kill.

The only real complaint I have for the mod was putting a bullet-proof role into his game. If someone2 had even merely one-shot nightkill protection, scum would have won the game.

True. But then, I'm really not sure scum deserved to win this game. Was also really quite unlucky- the fact that there were two consecutive failed kills was really a killer. If mafia had targetted Claus instead of someone2 that night, they'd probably have won the game too.

The idea of the bulletproof was that it would look like an NK-immune GF or SK if vigged, and if it claimed prior to the mafia doc being revealed, it would look ever so much like a goon when the doc came up. Unfortunately for the mafia, they killed the vig on the very night she shot at S2, which removed this.

The idea behind the mafia doc was twofold- to make the vig less effective (vig when there's a mafia doc is barely positive for town) and to give the scum a confirmable nightaction that doesn't kill to protect from the tracker.

I've said it before though- scum lose when none of them fakeclaim.
