No its not. Saying whos scum and town is useless posturing. It doesn't give the town anything, at the very least its a very anti-town way to play. Giving reasons is what pushes the town forward and separates us from other sites where lynches start being random. Making cases, working out who is scum and town by analysis helps us work out who to vote and should influence who we should vote or not vote. By cutting that out we are no longer playing a game of skill and we start playing a game of luck.

I've got some things to say.

Let's start at the beginning, shall we?

Once upon a time, there was a man named Friend. He discovered mafiascum and quickly joined a newbie game! What fun it was, questioning and making cases. He thought he was good at it too, until the person he was so sure was scum flipped town.

Oh well, that happens sometimes

I'm good enough to get the next one.

But, alas, the next person he tried to make a case on, leading to his lynch, was also town! Friend began to get frustrated. He joined other games, like this one, this one, and this one. He thought his logical playstyle and relentless questioning would surely lead to death for the scumbags! But each and every time, Friend was vanquished. His reads were totally inaccurate! Friend lost 5 games in a row, all as town, never getting lynched in a single one.

He realized that something had to change.

He got a new avatar, replacing the old cute-kitten one. He got a new attitude towards every game - "Trust your gut." He realized that whenever he made cases, they were incorrect, so he stopped. But! People began calling him scummy. Friend had a dilemma - is it better to be perceived as scummy, yet be able to nail scum, or be perceived as quote-unquote "obvtown" but always lynch townies? Friend thought that the former, while alienating and somewhat hard-to-keep-up, was the better of the two options. So he began on a new path, towards improvement and scum lynchings.

Basically, town, I'm sorry. I can revert to old, logical, questioning, blatantly protown Friend if need be. The only reason I don't is, when I do, I lose. I hope this helps clarify some things about me and my playstyle, and I hope you'll forgive me for being somewhat anti-town.

About the zwet vote: Just because Furcolow voted for Seraphim doesn't make him scum. I had been (and still am) getting a strong gut town feel from Furc, and zwet seemed to be taking advantage of Furc's VI-ness.

My vote on you was completely logical. RC's vote was not illogical - town can't tell the difference between recruiter and recruited and should thusly just lynch whoever is the scummiest. Look, the Furcolow wagon was obviously (to me, at least) scum-driven. He was a VI, an easy target, and for people that don't have experience with him, always scummy.

I am almost sure one of these 4: {Porochaz, Erg0, Lord Gurgi, Yosarian2} is scum based on that assertion.

Erg0 is the towniest of the four, followed by Yos2, LG, Porochaz, although it gets pretty close between those three.

I feel like Porochaz/LG are also using the "try to lynch easy targets" approach on me. Through not being helpful and explaining my reads, I agree I've painted myself as somewhat scummy. The case Poro made on me was never based on any concrete evidence; just me being difficult.

Being a VI doesn't make one necessarily town, at all.

The reasons that almost everyone in the game suspected him have very little to do with his playstyle, and everything to do with him acting in an inherently scummy way.

But he was acting in an inherently scummy way BECAUSE OF HIS PLAYSTYLE. That's what VIs do.

Maybe you don't have experience with them, Yos, but the site has changed. VIs exist, and you have to know how to read them.

I've been playing with VI's for years, Friend. They've always existed.

Policies like "lynch all liars" exist specifically because there have always been some people making bad play decisions, and there have always been scum trying to look like people making bad play decisions. If you start letting people get away with crap like openly lying about their role and changing it multiple times, then the town's ability to get any solid information collapses, the town's ability to read anyone falls apart, and scum get away with all kinds of gambits and fakeclaims without getting called on them.

The downside is, occasionally some townie makes some really terrible lies, gets caught, and falls apart, and gets lynched. Doesn't happen that often, but it does happen, and it's frustrating. Still, scum get themselves into those kinds of "trying to lie your way out of trouble and getting caught" situations far more often then town ever do. I wouldn't say I will always lynch a liar, because I won't, but 95% of the time it's the right choice.

But when people tell you "Furc does this EVERY TIME HE'S TOWN" and you continue to push hard on the lynch wagon, I find that scummy.

You have to tell if the person committing said scummy actions is committing them because they are indeed scum, or because they're a VI and despite their efforts to contribute to the town, they end up acting scummily. In Furc's case, it was clear (to me) that he was doing the latter. I'm not saying that VIs are always town, but they can be read and it's a knock on you that you couldn't - either you're scum or you're not the great player that everyone thinks you are. My vote goes for "Yos is scum," because I don't think you've built up your reputation as one of the best players on the site with VI mislynches. Honestly, I expected better from a game with this caliber of players; it really makes me think that we have some scum in those "MS elders."
