OPEN 175 – PICKING SIMPLICITY

Welcome to the retirement home, where people are old and like things simple. Death isn’t too out of the ordinary here, it happens, but the sudden death of semioldguy last night seems more than out of the ordinary. After all, he was only semiold; it couldn’t have been his time to go yet. Everyone seems to think his death was untimely and the four entry wounds in his chest also raise a few questions. Something fishy is afoot and the retirement home has been placed on lockdown until the killers are found. Most of you are just the doddering old relatives generally cranky about this whole situation, but at least here others listen to your stories about the good old days and you'd like to get back to that. Some of you hold a little more resentment than others for being placed in this home and just can’t take it anymore.

Over the intercom you all hear that you will be meeting in the common room where the most comfortable sofas are to settle this matter the old fashion way, whatever that means. Since everyone here is quite elderly, it may take a while for everyone to be able to walk all the way to the common room.

Rules:

1. Have fun and don’t be a jerk. This is a game. Don’t do anything to deliberately make the game not enjoyable for others.

2. Players must vote in the format

Vote: semioldguy

. Votes in any other format will not be accepted. Abbreviations or nicknames will be counted as long as there can be no confusion as to who the vote is being placed upon.

3. Unvoting before changing your vote is not required, but appreciated.

4. As soon as a player has more than 50% of the total votes, the day ends immediately and that player is lynched. Unvoting before the moderator returns cannot undo the lynch.

5. When a lynch is reached, players may continue to talk during twilight until the thread is closed.

6. Deadlines for the day will be set at the beginning of each day. The same applies for night. They will always be posted in the OP and with each vote count.

7. Deadline extensions may be requested if a replacement is needed or to allow a replacement time to catch up. Extensions are at the moderator’s discretion to be approved or not.

8. If there is not a player with more than 50% of the vote at deadline, the day will end in NO LYNCH.

9. If you are dead, you may not post. A single “Bah” post is allowed but may not contain any game-relevant content.

10. Players must post at a minimum of once every 72 hours. Players who do not post for more than 72 hours will be prodded.

11. Players who do not post within 48 hours of their prod will be replaced. If a player is receiving an excessive amount of prods, they will be replaced.

12. Players are not allowed to edit posts.

13. You may not post/quote any communication you have with the moderator.

14. You may not talk to others about this game outside of this thread unless your role specifically allows it.

15. Do not post in codes, in tiny or invisible text, or in any language other than English.

16. Play to your win condition.

17. If you have a question about the rules, feel free to PM me or to post your question in the thread. If I make a mistake or if I miss something, please point it out so that it can be fixed.

It is morning, time for breakfast and for turning hearing aids back on after a silent night’s sleep. As everyone makes their way to the dining hall for their bowls of oatmeal, you notice two people haven’t shown up for breakfast. Perhaps their oatmeal is up for grabs, but a room check is in order first. After all, being a little nosy is part of your business and any excuse for an investigation will do.

is the first room to be checked. Scott Brosius is laid out on his bed, riddled with gunshot wounds. Next to him lies a medical kit, apparently he attempted to operate on himself during his final moments. Obviously he was without success. He seemed to know what he was doing though and had removed a bullet and stitched up his first wound. More time, or perhaps not having to work on himself, might have saved a life. As it was, his very first patient was the one that got away… unfortunately for Scott Brosius, that very first patient was himself.

Over in dramonic’s room, another body is found. It is

. There is no blood to be found, perhaps he just died of natural causes. A closer inspection of his body reveals signs of a struggle. It seems as though he was choked to death during the night. Not much else can be discerned from dramonic's room, it looks like he was just a typical elderly resident. As the oatmeal in the dining hall is getting cold, everyone decides to return to breakfast and begin discussion of these murders once again….

Iguana must have been the cop on site sent undercover to investigate the case. Without police out of the picture, it is up to the remaining residents here to sort things out.

With one of the badguys finally down maybe that would dissuade the killers from pressing on. Old people are stubborn about their ways though and this morning has another two people who didn't wake up early enough for breakfast. You first go to

's room, only to find that it is empty.

However, when checking up on

skitzer

you find both of their bodies. Skitzer's body with several gunshot wounds while Kreriov seems to still be holding his gun despite being face down in a pool of his own blood on the floor. It looks as though Kreriov had shot Skitzer, only to be surprised from behind and garroted. Kreriov seems to a part of the mafia, which must mean that Skitzer was just an ordinary old person. Of course that also leaves the killer who snuck up on Kreriov. It appears that quite a bit still needs to be unraveled before the retirement home can return to normal.

was the day's suspect. As the group surrounds him, he makes a break for it! He grabs his walker and makes for the door. Everyone else grabs their canes and walkers and follows in pursuit. The chase is on! But the janitor has just mopped the floor and Nul slips and falls as everyone else catches up to him. Trying to flee must be an admission of guilt. You check his room to find it cluttered with things like fishing line, ropes, various tanks of different poisonous or lethal gases, as well as a list with four names on it, all deceased. The disturbing sight makes everyone very sleepy, or maybe it was a leak in one of those gas tanks, and everyone heads off to bed for the night.

I'd like to give a big thanks to everyone who replaced in and especially for those of you that stayed the whole game! There were quite a bit of replacements this game and for a while I was worried there were going to be more total replacements than player slots.

I hope the game was enjoyable for everyone, I had fun following along.

A Few Thoughts:
The large number of replacement in the first couple game days were a big hit to the town in my opinion. It made reading player slots harder which wasn't helped by the style of some of the players in the game. The town started playing better when there weren't new players replacing in regularly (also due in part because there were less total town players to suspect).

The early loss of the power roles, and late offing of the Serial Killer also hurt the town. Had iguana lived another night a second scum investigation would have greatly helped the town.

I thought it was interesting that on night three Col.Cathart was originally contemplating killing SpyreX, but after the way day three ended he changed his mind and killed StrangerCoug instead. The change would have drastically affected the outcome of the game.
