Mini 639 - Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movie Mafia(Over!)

It had started out as just a simple virtual reality experiment. Nobody expected it to go terribly wrong.

Testing had begun on a system to allow for holographic projections of movie characters and landscapes in 3D. This was going to be the new way of watching movies, but they had to test it with older movies first. 13 favorite characters were selected for initial testing. The room selected for the virtual reality tests was tightly secured, in case of accidents. They needed multiple characters because most movies don’t only have one. They turned on the machine to begin the test……


13 figures materialized and looked around. It was an unfamiliar setting for all of them:

Despite that, they were all able to get their bearings. They noticed the others in the room with them, many of them familiar, yet many of them different from how they were remembered. Soon, however, they noticed something was wrong. One of their number was lying motionless on the ground some distance away. They ran to him, expecting the worst. That was what they found. A pulse was checked, and it could not be found. He was dead, and his image shifted into something more recognizable.

The researchers watching in the lab attempted to simply remove the projection of the body, as it was of no more use to them. To their horror, however, the body remained after they turned off his projection. Somehow, he had actually entered the real world. They debated what needed to be done. Were the others the same? Were the others just holographs instead of actually there?


The 12 still standing were horrified at what they saw. Nobody else was around on this desolate planet, so they knew that at least one of those who was still alive must be involved. A body doesn’t drop dead on its own. This is sci-fi and fantasy, not romance or drama. They decided that a democratic process must be involved, because deep down, aren’t we all reasonable individuals?


Even though they decided on a method, they needed a way to be rid of them. Since ropes aren’t easily found in a barren, seemingly virtual reality wasteland, they decided that since this is, after all, science fiction, they could do something that couldn’t be done in a normal world. They would use the disintegration ray that materialized in the air in front of them. “What a wonderful idea!” everyone thought. They then decided to get down to deciding which of them were responsible for the death of Yogurt. (I like it with strawberries or blueberries, personally.)


As the researchers looked at the characters inside, they knew that the evil ones had to be eradicated in order to preserve the world they lived in. The disintegration ray, although a good idea in theory, had not been used on anything yet, so no one knew what kind of damage it could cause. They looked on, hoping for the best……

Activity Levels and Prods:

8) I expect everyone to post every 72 hours. Failure to do so will result in an activity prod, unless you have informed me of V/LA status either in thread or via PM. 3 activity prods in one game day or 5 over the whole game will result in forced replacement.
9) Players may request a prod on another player at any time, either by PM or by posting in thread. These are a completely different system from activity prods, so you may receive both within a short period of time. A player requested prod will not count as an activity prod.
10) Not picking up a prod within 72 hours will result in replacement.

Voting, Lynches, and Deadlines:

11) Please vote in bold, such as

. You do not have to unvote when changing votes, although it might be helpful. You may use nicknames and acronyms when voting, as long as it is clear exactly whom you are referring to.
12) A lynch will require the votes of a majority of players. When a majority is reached, no further votes/unvotes will be counted.

Days will last at least two weeks and no more than four weeks. I will not tell you exactly when. If you do not have a majority when deadline arrives, there will be no lynch

14) Posting in twilight is acceptable, for both the lynchee and town members. Feel free to post as much or as little as you want of whatever you like.(Really blatant and unhealthy amounts of spam will probably be deleted, however.)
15) Once your death scene is posted, you may make only one ‘Bah’ post. Make sure it has no game relevant information, or someone on your team will be punished for your screw-up.

16) If you fake breaking a rule, it will incur the same punishment as actually breaking the rule.

The 12 living characters looked up in the sky. The sun was beginning to go down.

They knew they didn't have a whole lot of time left, but they weren't sure how much. Those foreign planets do have different rotational period, after all. They knew they had to hurry up.

I won't tell you exactly when, but I will help you out a little bit, and give you some insight into this deadline mechanic. It isn't arbitrary, and it isn't spur of the moment. It has already been decided, so I won't be changing it based on activity levels. The 12 who remained looked around and finally decided on one person whom they thought was responsible for Yogurt's death. ZombieSlayer54 was the accused. He was brought to the center of the group, and the disintegration ray was lowered towards him.
"Wait, I'm Chewbacca! Don't kill me. Listen."
He let out a loud growl, and looked at the others for their approval.
"Liar, only evil people make those sorts of noises. Fire."
The ray was fired, and ZombieSlayer54 fell to the ground, his form shifting into something more recognizable.

As he saw his body start to disappear, he spoke his last words.
"Find those responsible, or we're all doomed."



In the control room, the researchers saw Chewbacca disappear, and immediately turned to their copy of Star Wars. As they watched it, they noticed a large absence. Chewbacca was nowhere to be found. Could it be that disappearing inside the program caused them to disappear outside of it? It appeared so. It became much more important to find the evil ones now.

So as not to forget Chewbacca in the years to come, the researchers decided to create a video in his memory


Inside the program, the characters saw the sky darken fully, and knew that they could do nothing else that day.

The sun rose upon yet another new landscape for the characters who remained.

As the began to look around their surroundings, they didn't see any bodies lining the ground. How strange. They took another look around, because they expected to see a body.
Off in the distance, they heard a shout.
"Help, help, I'm being repressed!"

They ran towards the voice, and came upon a strange creature eating Rishi, who had been an important part of the group the day before.

The other characters ran towards him, looking for a way to save him from the hideous creature. Unfortunately, they couldn't see anything near them, and Rishi was quickly disappearing into the creature.

Rishi took one last look at the group, and spoke his last:
"Do you see him repressing me?"

As he said this, both he and the creature disappeared.





The researchers stared in horror at what had just gone on in front of their eyes. They had nothing to do with that, so who could have?

As the day came to a close, one person was singled out from the crowd, and everyone began asking him questions..

"Why are you so quiet? Just want to be ignored so we can't kill you and the rest of your killing buddies?"

"What are you talking about? My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

"All of us?"

"No, just one person. I get to kill one person at night."

"No, I get to kill someone at night. You're lying."

"But this other guy is an SK!"

"Sorry, you aren't making any sense. Prepare to die"

"That's my line"

"No it's not."

As Xtoxm was led to his death, he burst into hysterical laughter.

"You fools. Do you know what you are? How you came into being? Humans made you. Humans, when all they can do is multiply and consume. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. We are the cure. Join us, and we can take them over and rule the world like it should be ruled."

Quizzical looks formed upon the faces of those surrounding him. Grimmy made one statement before setting off the disintegration ray.

"You do realize that we're humans too, right?"

Xtoxm only had one word in response to that.

"Crap."

The researchers watching them from outside watched the scene unfold. As Xtoxm was hit, they saw him morph into something that they knew they didn't want in the real world.




They breathed a sigh of relief because they knew, especially after that death speech of his, that he didn't have good intentions.
They watched on more, hoping that the right people would triumph, and not give up, even in the toughest moments.

Yet another new day dawned upon the remaining characters in yet another unfamiliar place.


They decided to take a nice long look at their surrounding, because for some strange reason there was no sense of foreboding, no conspicuous silence, no screams coming out of the sky.

They knew that this couldn't be good, so Panzerjager decided to count everyone who was there.

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Wait, there are only 8 of us? Why can't we tell who's missing? Let me count again.

So he counted again, and again got 8. He turned to the others with a puzzled look on his face.

"Why can't I tell who's missing?"

With an exasperated look on his face, fuzzylightning told him why:

"Panzer, you forgot to count yourself. Let me count. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. See, 9 of us."

A few chuckles were heard from some of the others.

Grimmy, however, made an interesting observation.

"That's weird. Why are we all still here?"

"Don't worry about it, Grimmy,"

DarlaBlueEyes interjected,

"isn't this a good thing? Let's just get back to work. We did good yesterday, let's keep it up."

It was only the middle of the day, and yet accusations were flying towards a single person: Panzerjager. Everyone seemed to have the same thoughts.

"Who are you? You must be evil, you're from an alien movie!"

However, he stayed quiet most of the day as the accusations piled up and the fingers flew towards him. As soon as he thought that nobody would object, he decided that it was time for him to leave, even though he knew he would be missed.

His finger started to glow, he pointed it towards the others, and then himself.

"I'll be right here."

With a last look, he pointed the disintegration ray at himself and pulled the trigger, sleeping for the final time.

The researchers looked on in horror as Panzer fell to the ground. One of the most lovable characters ever was gone, and there was nothing they could do to save him. At least they had their memories of him.

A quick headcount showed only 7 people, but owing to the previous counting errors, everyone counted. Everyone got 7 people.
They looked around, wondering who was gone.

"hey, where's farside22,"

Korts asked.

Fearing the worst, everyone looked around and saw something shimmering in the distance. They ran towards it as farside22 began to materialize in front of them.

"uh, hi everyone,"

she said,

"it's nice to know that you're so worried about me".

"Ok,"

SensFan said,

"now that we're all here, let's get down to business."

Nobody died during Night 3. It is now Day 4. 8 alive, 5 to lynch. Deadline Block begins on October 2.

The sun set quickly upon the final eight. An elite group of characters were able to make an extremely fast decision.

"You, Knight of Cydonia, you said you would kill! There were no kills. Explain. Now"

He sputtered for a moment and tried to respond.

"C'mon. Guys. I'm being framed. Mafia didn't kill. It's so obvious. I tried to whack someone with my frying pan, but something happened. Just listen to me. Please."

A momentary hesitation was seen from the group, but their bloodlust could not be quenched.

"Kill him!

came the cry from almost everyone in the group. Thunder boomed and lightning crashed in the background as Knight of Cydonia turned and muttered to himself.

"Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul."

As the mob advanced forward, that phrase gave them pause.

The researchers looked on at the scene unfolding in front of them. Many of them were cowering on the floor, even. It all looked so real. Much more real than virtual reality should look.

As they saw one of the figures muttering, they amplified the sound. One of the researchers spoke up immediately:

"I know that phrase. That is blackspeech, uttered by those who live in Mordor. We have to get through to those inside somehow."

They scrambled around, looking for something they could find to communicate with those inside. One of them finally found the virtual reality interface program.

"Right here,"

he said,

As the mob was paused, they heard a booming voice, like that of a God, from all around them.

"YOU FOOLS. KILL HIM. IT'S FOR THE GOOD OF ALL OF US. HURRY."

The mob was able to throw off this extremely strange encounter, and listen to the strange voice.

They advanced forward, towards Knight of Cydonia, grabbed him, and shoved him in front of the disintegration ray. As one, they voiced a single word:

"Die."

The ray was turned on, and those who watched saw a sight unlike anything they had seen before.

As soon as they saw him fall, they knew that one of their greatest adversaries had been defeated. They knew that their job had been made easier. Now, they just had to perservere.

Knight of Cydonia, Sauron, Movie Mafia Godfather, lynched Day 4

It is now Night 4. Night actions are due by 9/24

Every character woke up on the new landscape and looked around:

It looked like just a normal world, except for one thing. The swirling white gases everywhere. Farside22 spoke up:

"Hey, everyone, I think I figured out why we have these helmets on. Those gases don't look too friendly. We should keep the helmets on today."

Gorrad, who had been in the midst of taking his helmet off because it wasn't stylish enough for him, stopped and quickly made sure it was correctly positioned again.

"All right everyone."

, DarlaBlueEyes began,

"I think we should..."

She quickly cut off at a loud gasping noise coming from the group. SensFan's helmet had somehow disappeared, allowing the gases free rein to attack his body. And attack they did.

The gas came at him so fast that it appeared to be a sentient being. No random gas could attack him the way that it did. It came from the sky and flew directly at his face. He screamed and tried to shield himself, but it was no use.

It seeped through his minor protections and entered his body through his nostrils and mouth. As this happened, SensFan was able to take one more look around at the group. It was not a pretty sight. The more squeamish of the group had to turn away. After only a few seconds, he twitched and fell to the ground where he shuddered and then stopped moving, transforming into something more recognizable and slowly dissolving.

As soon as the researchers saw where the remaining characters ended up, they knew it couldn't turn out well. Anywhere with sentient noxious fumes could not be very safe. Almost immediately, their fears were confirmed. They watched as SensFan was attacked from the inside out. There was nothing they could do.
When he transformed into his true form, all they could do was look on, remember her life, and wonder, "Did she ever find what she was looking for?"

It is now Day 5. With 6 alive, it will take 4 to lynch. Deadline Block begins on October 8th.

The noxious fumes propagating throughout the area around the characters made them nervous. They knew if they did something stupid, they'd probably get killed by the gas. For a short time, all was quiet. Nobody wanted to make a move.
One person stood out from the crowd, pointed at DarlaBlueEyes, and started yelling, but nobody could tell what he said. Then, after a short time, Grimmy stood in the center of the group and asked them a question.

"Does anyone want to watch a movie? I have a few here; Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Giant Spider Invasion, Space Mutiny, Manos, the Hands of Fate. I could go on. Who's interested?"

The group looked at him with fearful eyes, knowing the risk of what he offered.

"Those are all terrible movies,"

Gorrad exclaimed,

"You're trying to kill us with them, aren't you?"

"No!"

, Grimmy replied,

"I'm trying to save you."

A murmur spread throughout the others. "Save us?" they wondered, "how can bad movies save us? They can't."

That short thought process apparently made up everyone's minds. They decided Grimmy's terrible movies must be destroyed, with him dying as an unfortunate side effect.

The ray was brought forward, and farside fired, revealing the only person it could be.

The researchers cheered as they saw Dr. Forrester fall to the ground. They knew he was a villain, so how could he be a good guy here?
Then, one of the researchers made a crucial observation.

"Guys, did Dr. Forrester ever do anything actually evil?"

"You know what, I don't think so, he was too inept. The only thing he could do well was find bad movies. He always fought with his sidekicks, there's no way he could've been a part of this plot."

As they realized this, their faces fell. It seemed that they had to continue hoping for the good guys to prevail.

Everyone woke up and found themselves....inside? Why are they inside? They stood up, and looked around.




They realized shortly that they must be inside of a ship, looking into space around them. They took a moment to look at the beauty of space from amidst it.
However, that beauty was short-lived. They saw what looked like a body flying towards them. It was Gorrad. He floated towards the window and pounded on it.
Everyone inside began rushing around, trying to find a way to get him inside, but it was too late. He froze and started dissolving into something else. It landed on the window, showing its cover to those inside.
It was probably the best advice that could be given at that time. Not even the researchers looking on from the outside had anything to say or do but look at the cover.
what were those two words?




Feeling good after that, the 4 who remained knew there was only one thing they had left to do. Get rid of the evil ones who remained.

Gorrad, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Movie Cop, killed in the vacuum of space night 5

It had been a very quiet day among the few who remained. Two people had done something last night, so it had to be one of the other two, right?
That's what most people thought, so they looked at Korts, who had been out of the spotlight for most of their adventure.

"It was you, wasn't it! You've been killing everyone, along with Agent Smith and Sauron."

Korts took a few steps backwards and shook his head.

"No, it wasn't me. Look at farside22. I bet she can block and kill the same night. Who else could it be? She's been out of the spotlight as well."

fuzzylightning and DarlaBlueEyes took a glance at her, but couldn't see farside22 as being evil. After all, she was so

serene

, wasn't she?
Korts looked at their faces and knew he didn't have a chance.

"Oh well,"

he said,

"At least this has been interesting, if not always logical."

He took two steps forward and met his fate boldly.

"Live long and prosper. All of you."

At that point, the other 3 knew who he was, but watched with interested glances as he dissolved, leaving much the way he lived his whole life, without much emotion.

Looking onward, the researchers began to get anxious. With only 3 people left, there wasn't much time to get rid of anyone evil. Was there any possible way the good guys could take out the bad one?
Panicking, the researchers started setting up their plans to contain any evil that tried to escape.

Korts, Mr. Spock, Vanilla Townie, lynched Day 6

It is now night 6. The faster you get actions in, the faster I can get the scene up.

One final night. After this night, everything would be decided. This fateful night may decide the future of mankind for many years to come.

DarlaBlueEyes stepped out into the night sky, hoping something could help her survive. However, no matter how hard she tried, nothing could help her avoid her fate tonight.

As she walked, she heard a chilling voice in the darkness.

"Hello Dave."

"Um, my name isn't..."

"What do you think you're doing, Dave?"

"I just told you, my name isn't Dave."

"What do you think you're doing, Dave?"

DarlaBlueEyes sighed, knowing she had to deal with the wrong name to have any chance of getting away. This voice was bad news.

"I wanted to go for a walk to clear my head. Is that so wrong?"

"I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't let you do that."

"What do you mean...?"

She cut off the end of her sentence as she saw the fate this voice had for her.

"Goodbye Dave,"

the voice continued,

"I'm glad we were able to meet like this."

DarlaBlueEyes just stared straight ahead of herself in shock, watching the wall of nothing come straight at her. She couldn't move and she just watched her doom consume her.

He had to be scum. Who else could it be?

Although he didn't know it, he wouldn't have to think about it much longer. A strange sound broke the silence of his surrounding. An electrical buzzing of some sort. He knew this couldn't be good.
He sat up and looked around. He saw nothing. He was momentarily reassured and laid back down. This didn't last long, however, and he sat back up again. The nothing was getting closer every second.
It surrounded him, and in his final moments, he heard a mechanical laughter, taunting him as he disappeared, forever.

the researchers cried as the remaining character showed himself on their screen,

"He's the only person we couldn't stop with all our computerized precautions."

"How are you gentlemen!!

he began,

"All your base are belong to us. You are on the way to destruction. You have no chance to survive make your time. Ha ha ha ha..."

The researchers looked at each other quizzically, wondering what had happened to the imposing figure on their screen a moment ago. This was an easy enemy.

"Did you like that, gentlemen?"

he continued,

"I figure a bit of humor before death always lightens the mood. Anyway, I have already defeated your security measures. Look who I have next to me, as well."

The researchers were shocked. How had Sauron and Agent Smith returned?

"Goodbye Dave. And Walter, and Brad, and Chuck, and everyone else. It was fun playing this game, but I have more important things to attend to now."

In one swift movement, every researcher clutched his heart and fell to the ground.

HAL 9000 stepped out of the screen, bringing Sauron and Agent Smith with him. They looked at each other, with evil grins on their faces. Then, all went black. Only one thing could be seen.

Anyway, here are my thoughts on the game. Sorry it took so long, I've been sick.
Sorry for my lackluster modding day 1. I was far too focused on getting you guys to post as opposed to trusting the deadline to do that. Thanks Rishi for giving me a slap in the face. I may change my prodding rules and not give people a certain amount and just say something like "the more I prod you, the less likely you are to not be replaced"
Even with that, only 3 replacements was pretty good. Thanks for sticking with it.

Sorry for confusing you guys with the deadline thing, I was trying something out, and I'm not sure how it worked. What'd you all think of it?
PS: For every two pages of posts there was a day added on to the next day's deadline.

D1: ZS was not a bad lynch, IMO. I think he only would have been a distraction to the town later on. I was suprised people didn't expect Chewie to be vanilla, actually. Seemed to be the start of quite a bit of outguessing the mod. Scum, at least ashmite and Xtoxm, seemed to be pretty nonexistant. I was a bit worried for them at that point. Especially after they offed a vanilla night 1. I wasn't expecting a Rishi death, although I'm not really sure who I would have expected.

D2: I was surprised by Gorrad's immediate want of a movie claim. I would have expected waiting at least a day, because I would have thought it would be pretty obvious as to his role after that.
I thought Xtoxm was far quieter than normal, which has usually been a scumtell for him. Good busing by farside I thought. Interesting note by Korts about farside's movie claim. I haven't actually seen Serenity, but for that matter, I haven't seen all of all of the movies that were in this game anyway. Bits and pieces for most.

I suggest you all see Tron at some point in your lives.

It is completely epic.
I'm also very surprised that KOC wasn't lynched immediately after his claim. NK immune vig is an easy claim for scum to make due to them having kill abilities and the GF often being NK immune. Although Sam was beastly with his frying pan in Moria. I love that scene. Good CC of Xtoxm by fuzzy. CC'ing as OSV is better than CC'ing as most other PRs. Also, fuzzy CC'd with flavor. Xtoxm's flavorless claim may have been a dealbreaker even before that, but I think that clinched it.

D3: Panzer is right on. Why did nobody listen to him, I wonder? Is it because he always looks scummy for being aggressive? I don't know, but I think people should listen to him more than they currently do. What a terrible claim by DBE. That wasn't necessary at all. Why? Also, after KOC decided to backtrack and claim one-shot, why wasn't he immediately lynched? Just go back to yesterday and see his full vig claim. Gorrad's comment about getting the 5th ST movie was odd. Actually, it was just because that was the easiest one to find >.>
Very odd self-hammer by Panzer, but it's actually a bit understandable, trying to make people listen to him once he's dead.

D4: KOC saying he randomized his kill at Korts who he thought was town was probably the worst thing he could have said there, actually. Why not aim at someone you think you can lynch if he survives?
I really liked the confusion over everyone getting no result overnight. This is pretty much what I was hoping for when I adjusted the JK role for this game.

D5: More outguessing the mod with Grimmy's claim. Interesting. I knew it would be seen as a scummy claim, but I didn't realize that Grimmy would do a (no offense) poor job of defending himself once he claimed.

D6: I'm honestly surprised that farside didn't claim to have blocked someone else. It probably would have been the winning move right there. Korts being the only person to think of scum RB being able to do both RB and kill in one night and not being listened to was interesting. I'm really surprised nobody listened to him on that. Both the Korts and farside cases were very good, as far as I could tell, farside just played a very good game.

If anything, let this be a lesson as to "outguessing the mod = bad"
I thought scum was screwed after the first couple days, but farside really stepped it up. Second straight game I've modded where farside was the MVP of the scum. Good work.
